“Most beautiful wedding EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

My husband and I just returned from our wedding in Guatemala at the Casa del Mundo. I began planning my wedding at CdM about 4 months before and with Ivan's help I very easily put together a beautiful wedding plan. Destination weddings are nice because you can't plan for everything, but I found working with CdM staff particularly convenient, responsive, great suggestions were provided and prices were all extremely reasonable. We arrived at CdM with 25 of our family and friends and had the most amazing wedding experience - the staff thought of everything and it was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. All of our guests loved the hotel, the food was exceptional and they couldn't get over the economical accomodations. If you are looking for an unforgettable destination wedding, I wholeheartedly recommend CdM.

This hotel has lots of character in a very serene setting. The vistas of lake Atitlan are breathtaking and the perfect place to spend time relaxing. The food was prepared by a gourmet chef and some of the best meals that I've had in Guatemala. Ivan and his staff are second to none in the service they provide. Thanks Ivan, you and your staff made our vacation very enjoyable!

This is the most beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Every room has incredible full views of the lake and volcano. The breakfast is absolutely delicious. Dinner was acceptable but good for the price. (The dinner is family style you all sit at one long table. I promise, even if you think you want your privacy, you will end up enjoying it tremendously.)
You can pay to have a fire-heated jacuzzi overlooking the lake (lit candles and all) set up for you for around $25. You just need to give them at least 7 hours notice (the whole fire heated thing.)
The only downside is that the hotel is not in a town, and is only accessible by boat. This is great for safety/privacy/ambience, but the last boat to the hotel is at 5:30pm and so you need to either eat dinner really early, bring dinner, or plan on eating at the hotel (the preset family style dinner is the only option.)
P.S. The employees are incredibly nice and go out of their way to make your stay as perfect as possible. After my friend and I became very ill with some kind of food poisoning, They made a special drink to try to help our stomachs and even though the kitchen was closed for the night, they still put together a plate of toast and a few other things that were easy on our stomachs and brought it to the room. :) Such kindness.
Just a note on the Lake Atitlan area in general: Play it safe with the restaurants you eat at. My friend and I have been living in Guatemala for a couple months and always eat street food and Lake Atitlan was the only place where we both got some crazy stomach/amoeba issues (one of the restaurants in San Pedro). The Hotel del Mundo's food is clean, fresh and of good quality. If we could redo it, we would have eaten every meal at the hotel. Not saying all restaurants in the area are dangerous, just play it safe. We aren't the only ones with this experience.

Our son and now daughter-in-law exchanged marital vows at this beautiful hotel. Our 3 meals were prepared by the most amazing female chef. Dinner was always served family style with the most beautiful table set with candles and flowers. The food was of the finest quality. We highly recommend this place. We arrived into Guatemala City and purposely took the chicken bus which took 6 hours only because we purposely stopped 3 times. Then we took a 30 minute boat ride to the hotel. It's all terraced with 75 steps leading to the office and restaurant plus an additional 15 steps to our room. There are more rooms terraced above us. It's peaceful with hammocks at every terrace, and every room has a balcony overlooking the deepest lake in Central America. There are volcanoes all around the lake. Just amazing!

They prepared everything for the wedding in perfect detail with pine needles on the floor and roses in large vases. Appetizers were served by the lake shore and dinner was elegantly served at the restaurant. A beautiful cake was prepared there by our chef. Music was played by a guitarist/flutest during the ceremony. We had 27 people gather at this amazing site.

Room Tip: All rooms are perfect althought they do have small rooms that a bathroom is shared which is perfect...

We had room 11 (grab it) if you are fit enough for the walk up! The room was very spacious, tastefully decorated with ensuite facilites. They had a hammock outside room that you could relax in.We enjoyed the group meals as you had a chance to speak to other guests.Amazing view looking out over to the volcanos. NOT TO BE MISSED!

Beautiful location and intriguing architecture. In April the lake was warm enough for swimming.

great location south facing on the lake with fantastic views. beautiful grounds and great rooms and all at a great price. however do be aware that due to the location and and choppy lake late in the afternoon the chances are you will have dinner at casa del mundo and possibly breakfast and lunch as well. meals are all very good indeed but the cost will double what you've paid for your room (if there's 2 of you). it can also be a bit dark inside the restaurant late on and there seems to be a reluctance to turn the lights on. apart from this it is a really beautiful spot and we had the most relaxing and peaceful 3 days there. go for it !!
