“Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

We stayed in two tents nearest the beach for 4 nights. The staff run the place perfectly and all was beyond what we expected. We booked two trips to Sirena station in Corcovado by boat returning each after noon to the tent camp.
Food was perfect and we loved our time there.

Room Tip: Zip up your tents when you are not there as the monkee's are sneaky.

Jungle meets ocean in a beautiful, minimal development setting. During my stay I met many different type of people who were all enjoying the camp in their own way. Groups of birders were very excited to spot Scarlett macaws, toucans and humming birds from the property. I spent my time swimming, laying in the hammock, mingling with guests and exploring the area and the park. I went here by my self but didn't feel alone once and would recommend this place to any traveler!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

We've been to Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp and it was - like the local people say - solo bueno! It was a 4 days/3 nights stay with 2 tours.
We started from Sierpe, the transport by boat (ca. 1,5 hours through a gorgeous landscape - first river then ocean) had been arranged by the staff of the Tent Camp. The Tent Camp is located directly at a calm beach, where the very friendly staff welcomed us. From our Tent #5 we had a great look at it and over the ocean, it was clean and the bed was comfortable, electricity is available, fresh towels are supported every day. In the night you can listen to the sound of the sea and the animals - this is so amazing! There are 6 public showers (4 with warm water) and toilets - everything clean, too. Next to the office is the restaurant where you get tasty breakfast, lunch (if you are on tour you get it where you are) and dinner. Water and limonade/juice is for free, sodas/beer/cocktails are extra at a good price. Wifi is available and for free.
Keith, the camp-leader during our stay, was just great! He is very nice and friendly and takes care about everything - good job, mate!
There are a few very calm and very beautiful beaches down the track where we were alone most of the time, fresh water is running out of the forest - it's just so wonderful!
On our first tour we went to Caño Island for snorkeling. Weather was great but the sight wasn't really good - nevertheless we've seen alot of fishes. After the first snorkeling we had lunch at the beach of beautiful Caño Island and after that a second.
On our second tour we went to the Corcovado National Park and were guided through the secondary rainforest. We've seen lots of animals and enjoyed that hike alot. It was really hot later in the morning so you're happy to be in the shadows of the forest most of the time. We didn't have problems with mosquitoes but they have lots of ticks there. On this tour we had our lunch (which we brought) at the ranger station.
On our way back we've seen lots of dolphins - in Drake Bay you can see dolphins and whales all over the year (although best time for watching whales is july to september when the whales get their babies there).
At our last night the staff organized a fantastic fire at the beach - it was just amazing with the nice people, the stars above and the ocean next to us, having some drinks and lots of fun! Anyway you get in contact with the other guests of the camp very easily and the atmosphere is relaxed and just great all the time!
We enjoyed our stay there very much - an extraordinary experience! A pity we just spent 3 nights there!

Meleghir,

Thank you so much for the taking the time to write your detailed review. You have described exactly the service we try to provide. We take pride in our meals, service, and cleanliness. All things are much more difficult in the jungle.

The peak whale watching season here is actually September through mid November although other whales do pass through at different times of the year.

Also we wanted to clarify about the ticks, you have said "they have lots of ticks there" We realize this may worry some people and in general ticks are not a problem if you stay to the marked and well traveled trails and are not crawling through the bush.

Again we thank you for your reply and hope to have you stay with us again.

Pura Vida!

We spent four nights at the Corcovado adventures tent camp and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We split our stay into two parts with a three day trip to corcovado park in between. The Catc organised for us to start our stay at C.N.Park as part of one of their guided tours and picked us three days later (maybe the return trip was a bit pricey but it was also very convenient).
The tent camp is magnificently situated and personally I love the tent style accomodation. We had a tent on the beach which I would recommend. The bathrooms etc were clean and tidy, the showers adequate. THe staff were very friendly and helpful..
The boat trip to the resort from Sierpe is a great introduction to the area.
The food is a little average in quality (especially the corn soup) but you definitely won't go hungry. One small gripe is that we were careful to say that we were vegetarians but still got served meat on several occasions. They did v.quickly rustle up a veggie alternative though.
Very nice coffee is in permanent supply.
There is a path leading into the rainforest from the back/side of the property, we were warned off from exploring it (as it is easy to get lost) but I think it would be good if the camp made more of the path so that those who want to explore a bit can do (you can walk along the coast as far as you like though).
One other thing: the area is still hanging on to 'off the beaten track' status but the pressure is on, I had the feeling that there were few checks on the increasing numbers of visitors to the area with numerous cruise ships anchoring just off shore and a constant buzz of small boats. The week before we were there the camp had 50 guests which would have been way too many, luckily for us numbers were much lower when we were there.

Room Tip: If possible get a tent on the beach

Kirp,
First we would like to say thank you for writing your review. We appreciate it very much. We are sorry to hear you thought your boat transfer was expensive. But keep in mind gasoline is very expensive here in costa rica and even more expensive on the osa. Everything must be brought in by boat and ultimately carried on someones back up to camp. This is why costs are higher than other areas.

We are in the process of expanding our menu and adding more vegetarian meals and other items. Many of our other reviews describe our food as excellent and filling. Not everyone has the same tastes.

We are also in the process of extending our trail network and adding signs. In general we do not recommend guests go off into the jungle on their own as there is a very real potential to get lost.

For those reading we would also like to say the cruise ships are a common sight up and down the osa peninsula. The cruise ships come once a week for the peak season, December through March. We do have groups stay with us from time to time, so if this is a concern simply ask your booking agent to inquiry as to whether there is a group or not during the dates you have selected.

Thank you again for taking the time to write you review, we appreciate it and hope to have you stay with us again.

Pura Vida!

We fell upon tent camp at las Vegas resturant in sierpie . It was amazing we stayed 4 nights. From the great snorkeling to the whale we saw from beach it was excellent . The food was created for us because we were the only vegetarians there . It was creative and delicious every meal we ate we could tell they put thought and effort . Keith was a great host and very helpful , with booking tours and great knowledge of local surrounding . I highly recommend his night walk . Where he guides u through the costa rican jungle at night sporting then smallest to the biggest spiders iv ever seen along with snakes and scorpions . The best part of the stay with the camp was that with the cost was included all your supplies to have an active stay . They provide kayaks , good snorkle gear and boogie boards .
Thanks !! We will be back

Tory,
Thank you for your review. We are very happy to hear we were "THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR TRIP" We dont always have whales right in front of our property but they do pass through, you were lucky to see them while sitting at the eating area. Our cooking staff was delighted to prepare special meals for you, and we are in the process of adding even more veggie and other meals to our menu.

Thank you again for your kind words, We hope to have you stay with us again soon.

My 6th Time Here, it is better every time...The Food is Fresh and Delicious the service and knowledge of the staff is impeccable, you are truly in untouched Jungle and right on the beach.
The Scuba Diving and Fishing is world Class, and i saw whales every time i was there.Larry the Owner does everything is his power to make my stay there awesome.i am an adventure junkie, so there is plenty for me to do there but if you just want to sit in a hammock and relax to the sound of the ocean this is a true paradise. It is a tent camp so be prepared to rough it a little but there is hot coffee and tea all day long 3 great meals a day and hot water showers and electricity as well , and the wildlife is abundant from monkeys ,tucans, macaws, tapiers and lots more right on the property, highly recomended

Room Tip: Tent number 1 is my personal Favorite

We have been to Corcovado 2 times before but stayed in punta marenco lodge, then. We were surprised how much better this place is! Everything is very well organised, you are never hungry and if you have any wishes or needs the stuff will take care of it immediately and they do it with a smile! Nothing got lost, we even had money in our tent! (Ok, you never know, but here they had never had any problems of this kind. The year before all kind of things would disappeare and we were told the monkeys stole them. Yes, monkeys, but on two legs, then.) You get real good basics and a real good service too, in a easy way you never feel uncomfortable about it. There is a touch of friendly family feeling / hang loose over this place. To reach this feeling it needs a lot of hard work behind the sceenes. Larry has taking care of the camp since about 3 years and he can be proud of the resault. At his side he has Tomas who will take care of your thirst in the evening as he is the barmaster and Keith, an just increadible young man, the world needs more of his kind + all the people taking care of the cooking, cleaning, guardening, great guys! We had tent No 1, next to a small river that is floating into the ocean. The bed was very comfortable, there is reasonable space inside and a small table to put things on. In the evening you have electric light. (dont forget to bring a good quality flash light, you will need it for night hike and to find your way to the toilets in the night). Outside there is a terasse with 2 chairs, a table and 2 washing lines. 2 steps away is your very own hammock. The view from the tent is breathtaking, beach and ocean just in front of you. We loved to drink our early (or late) coffey sitting in front of our tent, listening to the sounds of the jungle. (There is always coffey, tea and milk to get in the restaurant). The garden is well kept with blooming bushes, still you are in the jungle. You can swim safetly directly in front of the camp or go to the next beach, which is larger. Considering that you are in the middle of nowhere, the food is delicious! You will get a lot of fresh fish and home made bread. There is enough space in the bathroom area, even when the camp was fully booked. There are warm water showers for those who prefere this. The trip to the heart of corcovado, was beautyful, so was the trip to the island, where you can do snorkeling. You will see a lot of animals, birds and butterflys no matter in which way you move. Please, don't feed animals, don't forget you are a guest in their home and you should leave it the same way you find it. Your behavior is also part of others experience. If you want to do hiking on your own along the beaches you can take your lunch with you. A "must" for us is to walk to Rio Claro and to swim in the clear dark green water, you can even climb a small waterfall. We have been to a lot of places in CR but this is the place we will always want to come back to. We had luxury 8 nights, just enough to really soak in the beauty nature can offer you when it is at its best. Our fazit: ADTC: A friendly, payable, "rustical, but not simple" (as Tomas said) and everything you really need - place in a true paradise!
