This place was awesome. It's right on the beach in a remote area on the Pacific coast in Southern Costa Rica. The staff is great, especially the bartender Claudio, and the tour guides are all friendly and knowledgeable. The food was really good, and eating at one big table with the rest of the guests was a lot of fun and a good opportunity to meet some new people. While the hotel is right on the beach, the best beach is about a 15 minute walk away through the tropical forest and over a hanging bridge that crosses a river. Scarlet Macaws live right there on the beach, and we saw about 5 of them hanging out in a tree right there eating. Snorkeling was a lot of fun, we saw some friendly sharks and lots of colorful fish. The hike at Corcovado National Park was also a good time, we saw lots of monkeys, some cool birds and giant trees. All the activities and transportation were well organized and went smoothly. The hike and snorkeling trips required riding on a boat for up to an hour each way, but it was a nice ride through bright blue water with dolphins swimming around the boat. The room was small and the hot water was iffy, but we spent most of our time outside so the room size wasn't really a problem. I definitely recommend this place for people who enjoy meeting new people from around the world and doing outdoor activities.

“The best and worst of times”

I should begin by saying that our stay here was the highlight for the 7 children aged 12 - 16 we had with us. The location is idyllic although it is fair to say that some of the beach is drab. The rooms were clean and comfortable if basic - you expect that in an "eco lodge". Sadly the administration really let the place down. We had booked to finish the PADI course here (just the open water dives remained) and there was only one instructor for 8 pupils. In open ocean with 7 children this was worrying. The equipment was tired. Having said that, the instructor Sebastian was excellent, conscientious and did his best to look after everyone. He accepted he should have been helped. We wondered why he had no help. Eventually another instructor was found but Sebastian then fell ill. Days later the owner turned up and assisted. I had also booked (and reconfirmed) deep sea fishing. Nothing had been arranged and an inshore trip was hastily cobbled together. To be fair, the owner gave us some free diving to compensate. The staff were fantastic - friendly helpful and welcoming. Food was generally fine but desserts were odd. Great for adults and older teenagers but check and think carefully for children if diving.Don't rely on assurances from head office.

“Nice place - but not without flaws”

Jinetes de Osa is a nice place with laid back attitude, pleasant staff where you can meet a lot of interesting people. Because it is quite remote there aren't quite so many tourists as in other parts of Costa Rica so the place is a bit more unspoilt.

Meals are served in a communal area which helps to meet other people and make friends. Meals are nothing to boast about, though. Rooms are clean and totally sufficient. In the morning you are woken up by the sound of waves and birds, which is wonderful.

Obviously the place specialises in diving, but i would also recommend Corcovado National Park. The place is not without its flaws though. It is right on the beach, but it is not a particularly beautiful beach - water is dirty, i have not seen anybody swimming in it.

Also, one more thing somewhat spoilt our otherwise good memories of the place. When we arrived there we found out that we couldn't dive as we did not have PADI, which nobody told us about when we were booking it. Although we were upset about it, we decided to snorkel instead and we were told by staff that the difference in price will be refunded to us. But they are not exactly rushing to refund the difference to us - after one month and numerous emails asking for a refund we have not had any reply and the money has not been refunded, which is Very poor...

Stayed ten days in Drake Bay and had an amazing time! Drinks and dinner several times at Jinetes and thought it was great! Friendly and helpful owners and staff, especially Alexis and wonderful food. Met lots of new friends during dinner, because of the innovative dining area ( a huge table where everyone can sit together) and would recommend Jinetes to anyone travelling in Drake.

Had a great time here. The staff is awesome. We have to give out a huge shout out to ALEXIS. She was simply awesome. Loved the boat ride in. Love the big table where you ate with your fellow guests. Which was a great way to meet people and to learn about tours, other areas etc.....Every hotel should do this. :) Loved it. Thanks Alexis.
