Those days in Drake Bay Wilderness Resort were wonderful. We loved it, me my wife, and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The included tours were very good. The food was excelent, we liked the room and the service was fantastic with friendly and helpful staff members. Our stay here was definitely one of the highlights in our three weeks trip to Costa Rica.

My wife and me stayed the last 4 nights of our 3-weeks trip to Costa Rica in this resort. We loved it from the very first moment. Although not cheap and although the rooms could need some renovation we have enjoyed every single minute. The view and the location was just spectacular. The food was excellent and especially the service, friendliness and hospitality of every single staff member was amazing. You could see that they love the resort and their job. The included tours are all very recommendable. Corcovado and Drake Bay was the highlight of our stay!

Its a perfect mix of adventure (the flight to Drake Bay + the 4x4 to the river + the river launch to the resort) and relaxation (beach side private lodges, the sounds and sights of the ocean and rainforest)! I can highly recommend this resort to anyone traveling with a group, or as a couple's retreat, or for the single traveler - this place as it all. I will definitely return, and I recommend that you visit this paradise!

Celebrating 30 yrs. of marriage, My husband and I wanted to be somewhere special, where our vacation destination was in a more natural intimate setting rather than a large touristy scale resort. Drake Bay Wilderness Resort, was the perfect escape we were searching for. We chose a week in paradise package deal where we had five optional tours and all meals included. We felt in order to get an appreciation for the resort, and the surrounding area to include private walks to playa Cocalito beach, San Josecito beach, and kayak The rio Agujitas river, and complete all tours viewing amazing wildlife sightings in a somewhat relaxed manner, a week was necessary. The journey, to Drake Bay Wilderness Resort, itself, was an exciting adventure. Our itinery was set up by nature vacations , where all our connections were seamless. our travels included flying in a twin engine otter plane, driving in a jeep down a windy bumpy dirt road, crossing a shallow river bed, and on to a beach landing boat transfer. Simply exhilarating! On arrival to Drake Bay Wilderness Resort, we were warmly greeted with a cold wet towel and a refreshing fruit drink. The resort offers several sets of cabins all with fabulous ocean views, we opted for a centrally located, more secluded room #45 the honeymoon cabin that required us to climb 52 steps to arrive to the porch covered landing. we didn't mind the stair climbing as it offered a cabin more private separated from the rest of the guests on the resort. Being at tree height there were still lovely views of the ocean that we would enjoy, along with various birds flying around in the upper canopy. The cabin offers a newer model of A/C which is quiet and set at a comfortable setting of 25C, thus windows are covered over and there is no concern for any bugs entering the room. We felt the A/C & fan were enough to obtain relief from the heat and humidity of this area making sleeping very comfortable. The option to have a room without A/C with screened in windows was also available. We found the beds also comfortable to sleep on. The rooms were cleaned and beds made up daily, whereby sheets were changed every 2nd day and clean towels were provided daily. We especially appreciated free laundry service, thus allowing to pack much less if you so desired. the meals included and staff that wait on you are nothing short of superb. Food presentation was lovely and delicious. There was always two options for your dinner meal and one was always fish, yum. The staff were more than eager to assist you with any dietary requests and always did so with a smile. Special mention to Andrey, Nelly, and Xinia outstanding servers, and Samuel our bartender. it was wonderful to meet each one of you. On site is a saltwater pool, actually filled with fresh ocean water. We enjoyed to cool off in the pool after a day of touring. The pool area was never crowded and often we had the pool to ourselves. Drake Bay breathes life, and the tour options to see the wildlife are abundant. We highly recommend the mangrove tour and Corcovado Interior national park tour to experience the most possible wildlife. Guides Arnoldo(Tico), and Manuel are both very knowledgable of the area and their enthusiasm is contagious, They make every attempt to ensure your tour offers as many wildlife sightings as possible. The guides are even willing to capture the best photos with your camara. They were both awesome guides. We truly enjoyed our time at Drake Bay Wilderness Resort. Marleny and Adrian it was our pleasure to have come to know you at your own little piece of paradise. We were made to feel special and experienced a trip of a lifetime. Pura Vida to our new friends

We stayed at Drake Bay Wilderness, in january 2013, it was our second journey to Corcovado, but the first to Drake bay Wilderness. It was really fantastic, if we are going back to Corcovado one day we will go back to DBW. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, the food was really delicious and the hotel had a superb view and garden. What made our stay really perfect was our guide "Tico" , he was really very good, he made us see a lot of animals, looked after us for our safety, took the pictures for us so we could watch the animals, he told us interesting stories about the nature or about Costa Rica in general. He is really the best guide we've ever met on our holidays. So we can only recommend this hotel !!!!

A week at this resort transported me to a place I thought could only exist in my dreams. Quiet, secluded and beautiful this is a place for anyone who enjoys a family atmosphere in a tropical wilderness setting. Exquisite food, awesome staff and fun adventures. From hiking in Corcoveda
National Park to snorkeling round Cano Island and swimming in Rio Claro there was something fun to do every day. The resort itself is beautifully landscaped and comfortable. I spent a week there and did not want to go home. Can't wait to return either.

Room Tip: Air conditioners are noisy and rooms are sealed off with no natural ventilation except the door. Ne...

Just to update on the air conditioners, we have removed the last of our older air conditioning units and we have finished installing newer "mini split" air conditioning units that are very quiet and much more efficient. We currently have 9 rooms with air conditioning and 11 without air conditioning. Our air conditioned rooms have permanently sealed windows in order to prevent the cool air from escaping and thus reduce any waste of electricity. That said, we would like to encourage any future customers to note on their reservation if they have a preference for either type of room.

It was a joy having you stay with us and we look forward to seeing you in the near future!

My family had the most wonderful visit at Drake Bay WR. We flew into Drake Bay with a little plane, picked up by a rover, taken to the beach where we climbed into a small boat amongst the waves which took us across the bay to DBWR. We had daily excursions with very professional and knowledgable guides. We'd return to appetizers on the beautiful bar veranda overlooking the ocean. We'd play games until dinner. Dinner was always delicious & Costa Rican. Everyone was professional, friendly, helpful and happy! My kids loved it. It was the beginning of the rainy season so we had the place to ourselves & it was amazing. Very natural & felt rustic & true Costa Rica. Corcovada National Park is wonderful & easy to get to from here. Horseriding on the beach was amazing & swimming in waterfall pools & climbing up & hiking to waterfalls, snorkeling, kayaking. All was very fun. We really felt like we got away and really felt like we got to experience the REAL Costa Rica. It is a quality family memory we will never forget! We all were so sad to leave.

Room Tip: We had a choice of two areas, two rooms or one large. We chose the one large with kids near the poo...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Since it was founded in 1985, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort has continued to be a family run business. Our focus has been to take good care of our guests so that they'll feel right at home. We try to be as flexible as possible, taking into consideration people´s needs and we do our very best to fulfill special requests. For instance, we will prepare meals for special diets. Furthermore, the hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the area. It has large open areas with a bounty of beautiful flowers, tropical plants, big mango trees, and beach almond trees that attract the raucous macaws. The property gives you the feel of being in a private island since the river flows along the backside of the property and the whole front side meets the ocean. In addition to this, most visitors come to us by boat and the access by land to the hotel is a small path, unreachable by car, that is submerged in a jungle. Best of all, there is a paradise like view of the bay and ocean, reflecting the deep blue sky and, beyond that, hills bound in lush forests. We offer all sorts of extras that help make our guests' stay more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, we include a full laundry service. Kayaks close to the water are always at our guests' disposal. We have a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, dock, and hammocks to relax under the shade of a tree with the cool ocean breeze blowing on you. From our hotel we take guests on adventures in snorkeling, hiking, diving, canoeing and whale watching. Visitors often see four species of monkeys, sloths, tapir, caiman and a myriad of birds, including the scarlet macaw, mangrove hawk, toucan... ... more   less
