This hotel is not for everyone, but if you want a laid back experience -one that reminds you that you are on vacation to relax, in an underdeveloped country , then this is for you.
To get to Aguila de Osa you have to fly a puddle jumper 40 minutes from San Jose and then take a boat down a river, into the ocean and across the bay. By then you should be relaxed and ready for anything. Along the way, your skipper will point out crocodiles, monkeys, birds, dolfins, whatever is around -and a ton is around.
The rooms are large cabins on top of a hill, almost in the canopy.
The staff puts coffee outside of your room around 5am -and you may wake up to monkeys stealing the sugar from the cups.
look forward to lounging in your hamock while watching iguanas and toucans in the trees. (request a cabin w/a hamock -not all have them)
Try deep sea fishing -we caught tuna, wahoo, a 6 foot shark (which was cut loose) & mahi-mahi.
Great snorkeling around Cano island -my husband lost his wedding ring there -however, it was recovered underwater weeks later and returned (wild but true, and that is how small and friendly the community is).
Food was good -someone was always fishing, so fresh fish every night. enjoyed the free wine with dinner.
We were there for 3 nights, I would do 4, but 5 would have me wanting to get back to civilization.
Went in early December -had a some rain & clothing will not dry out if cotton.
I would 100% take kids there.
-It is not the Four Seasons, but a different kind of luxury.

The hotel was amazing. Everything was divine from the magnificent diving to the food. I found the staff were very efficient and friendly. Our room was beautiful it had breath taking views over the pacific ocean. While we were there we did the diving trip twice, the sirena trip and the canopy tour. They were all of a really high standard. If you are a diver or thinking of learning to dive this is the place to come. We saw some great sealife here. We have dived in a number of places including the Great Barrier reef but this has been the best ever. The dive instructor was very proffessional and informative so learning to dive there would be great. We really recommend this place it is fantastic. We guarantee you a memorable experience if you go there. We hope this was helpful.

“Terrible service!”

The place is magical, it is situated in a beautiful tiny bay, surrounded by luscious nature, but the service couldn't be nastier, What a SHAME! We were a group of 8, two couples with two teenagers each, and tried to get a lunch, but the girl in the restaurant had no interest in giving us any service, the manager was drunk in front of our eyes, we asked for two cocktails from the menu and were not available because they run out of the ingredients (no wonder). It was really a bitter experience, because the nature around is incredibly beautiful, but the management of the hotel ruined our intent to spend a nice afternoon there.

I read the last review and was getting kind of worried but i all ready made the reservation about 8 months back so i was not willing to lose out on the trip. Ok i will start from the begining..The packages include meals and wine at dinner. They also do one trip to cano island and one trip to corcovado national park to the first ranger station which is San Pedrillo and they arrange your internal flight and transportation to the Inn. For 5 nights and five days for 2 adults in a suite which was incredible was quoted 2456.oo US Dollars... Most flights to the Osa peninsula are done mid-morning and you can only take 25 lbs. on the plane. So i stayed at a near by hotel the Barcelo san jose palacio..They took care of my big luggage while i was down on the osa peninsula.. I took a taxi to the smaller airport next to the international airport (SJO). All you say is take me to the SANSA airport...Sansa is the name of the company and planes that you will take to the OSA...it was about 45 minute plane ride beautiful skies so i was able to get away with taking some nice pictures..Then you are met by a guy waiting for you and you get on a van or jeep... I was on a jeep going thru some crasy road path..Its the jungle so what can you expect it was fun..then you arrive at the beach where a boat will be waiting for you...they take ur luggage take it to the boat and you have to take off your shoes and get in the water so you can get on this boat..i took water shoes, tennis shoes and hiking boats so i was prepared for anything. after a 15 minute boat ride you are met with a large wood carved sign saying AGUILA DE OSA INN with two swordfish statues on each side very Indiana Jones.. YOu are greeted by a host that invites you to the INN good english if that is what you worry about i know i do not. some one comes down takes the luggage to your room and you are taken to a very nice large open air dining room where you will seea bunh of large clean wooded tables barnished and shiny very nice...for a nice hot lunch and fresh fruit and nice cool water and fruit drink or you can purchase a tropical drink, beer or soft drinks..All the rooms are up hill so you need to make clear where you would like your room...I like the best if i can get it..i requested the best if available and it was which was a very large suite room 14 its the one at the top facing the ocean. Most other rooms face the river or garden area very beautiful...But i wanted the ocean breeze..The suite had two hammicks on each side and four large rocking chairs to just sit back and relax. The beds where large and large bathroom as well. If you look at the website you can see the room..But you got to go to really appreciate it.. THe doors to all the rooms where hand carved into very nice murals..Some of macaws others of lizards and flowers and all bunch of stuff very nice place..I remember that the only other place i seen very nice carved doors other than here at the INN was at Animal Disney in Orlando...The food was great they offered mahi mahi about every night sea bass, steak and different chicken dishes, grilled vegetables, sashimi, sushi, fresh fruit, breakfast full american breakfast, hot lunches chicken, fish so much good food i eat so wel but to tell you the truth i know i lost weight..Im avearge built who goes to the gym and really trying to get toned and i carry a few extra pounds and im glad i lost them there know i can concentrate in ferming up..I did not do the cano island trip but many people that i spoke during dinner showed be incredible pictures while scuba diving and snorkeling,,white tip sharks, sea turtles, different type of fish, false killer whales, humpback whales, different type of dolphins,,sting rays and i think they called thm giant manta rays and other cool stuff...I prefer hicking andwildlife..i took the trips to corcovado national park..i was told that the first ranger station is where most people go because they have very clear hiking paths but i have learned that when you have alot of people the animals usually dont come out..This place i believe is one of the only ones that take you to another ranger station about 1 1/2 hour boat ride to Sirena ranger station..incredible place they do have a airstrip that you can charter a plane for 400 dollars..but from the INN with at least 4 people going you only pay 50 dollars more than what is offered in ur package. When i asked about this trip to serena they all ready had 4 other people wanting to go so no problem..We all saw bunch of scarlet macaws, monkeys, aracadis, even bull sharks hunting inthe river for fish,,and a bunch of different animals great hikes...the guide use to leave in the statesfor a few years but he is native to this area so he was very knowledgible with all the flora and fauna..I did 2 trips to Sirena ranger station, bird watching and whale watching and the rest of the time just relaxed on the hammicks and rocking chairs. They even had 3 nights that i was there fire work show that lasted 15 minutes or so..all the waitressed spoke english well..so you dont have to worry about communicating thats what experienced one of the waitresses/bartender was from florida USA.interesting storie she came for 3 wk vacation and never when back..She is a college graduate recently married and working at the inn so she can pay off her school loans back home and her husband takes tourist out fishing who also works for the INN but they do go up to the states every year some big fishing contest in florida where he won thrid place a price of 250,000 dollars so they are building their dream home not to far from the INN.....Incredible place will go back....

“Disappointing”

Aguila de Osa Inn

We stayed for 4 nights. The trip was disappointing because the facilites on offer did not measure up to what we paid. The trips taken were conducted by people whose english was very poor. We did a tour of the National Park, which turned out to be a very long trek, the guide's knowlegde was very limited and he was only intent on getting us through it as quickly as possible. He failed to explain about the vegetation and anything of interest. Considering that it took us almost an hour to get there, it turned out to be a huge disappointment.
The food was average, and some of the trips requested did not materialise because they did not have staff available to conduct them. I would not have minded but we ended up paying almost $2,000 for 3 nights accommodation! The fourth night was free. I would not recommend staying there.
