“AAABSOLUTELY Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We spent the third and final week of our honeymoon here in April 2013. Its a paradise literally carved out the hill side of Drake Bay and my goodness...its amazing!

The food is fantastic, the service is second to none and the suite we stayed in is luxurious and has panoramic views of Drake Bay...truly idilic. We had a balcony spanning the whole side of our suite and could spend afternoons relaxing in the hammock, watching the humming birds, and just enjoying nature or indulge in the full range of excursions from fishing to jungle treks to mangrove tours...we did them all and had a thoroughly good time.

I have nothing but praise for the attentiveness, friendliness and dedication of the staff there. Everything about our experience was just fantastic. I would very much recommend this place, its excellent value for money and will provide good lasting memories....will we return? absolutely!

Many many thanks Aguila

Room Tip: The suite at the top of the path is lovely!

My husband and I came to Aguila De Osa for a retreat from our hectic lives and busy schedule. We wanted somewhere secluded and outside the tourism trap. When we arrived, everything at Aguila De Osa was better than we could have ever hoped for. Since getting there was a commercial flight, a regional flight, a taxi service, AND boat ride away, the secluded portion of our trip was satisfied. The staff were more than accommodating and the extra steps they took to get to know you personally made us feel at home. The grounds were immaculate and the scenery was incredible. The views from the rooms were breathtaking and the relaxed atmosphere was just what we needed.
We really enjoyed the organization and the preparedness of the activities. Every evening before dinner, an event coordinator would sit individually with the guests and go over the plan for the following day. LOVED that.
We did a lot of scuba diving during this trip and had a blast with Sandra (our guide). She was extremely knowledgeable of the underwater wildlife and made our diving experiences very memorable.
After this trip, we felt refreshed and wonderful. Every detail was perfect and Aguila De Osa was amazing. If you want to experience a tranquil, secluded, safe, and incredible journey, this is the place to do it. We take many vacations and this one will be very hard to top.

Room Tip: Tip: Spend the little extra and get the junior suite! The location is higher up on the mountain and...

This was my second time in Costa Rica and my husband's fourth. We love CR and I consider it my favorite place in the world. Experiences such as our stay at Aguilla de Osa Inn is one of the reasons why.

It is not easy to get to, I agree, but once you are there, you never want to leave. The hotel grounds are breathtaking - and every sunrise is more beautiful than the prior...
The staff is very attentive, professional, friendly, and accomodating. Even the hotel dog, Coco, is cool, fun, and lovable and is happy to show you the path to the beach :)
The food is delicious with freshly-caught fish is always on the menu.
We took advantage of our stay there and participated in as many adventures as we could fit in our five-day stay - kayaking on the river, where we encountered a sunbathing crocodile, going on a bird tour with Carlos, snorkling (saw our first white tip reef shark), a full-day hike in Corcovado where everything we saw was Nat-Geo worthy (a resting tapir, a foraging ant-eater, a battle of life and death between a crocodile and a black sea turtle, and two female humpback whales from 30 feet away from our boat). The beaches are divine...The birdwatching is world-class and can see a lot of species even while rocking in your patio chair!
An unforgettable experience overall and I highly recommend!

Room Tip: All rooms are very good, however, the higher you go - the better the view!

We are lucky enough to be able to visit some of the great locales in Costa Rica frequently and even luckier when we come across great accommodation, service and activities. We have seen good, bad, and everything in between and tend to only write about the very good or the very bad. To say that Aguila de Osa is great in terms of the accommodation, service and multitude of activities available is simply a disservice to them, since "remarkable" is more descriptive of the rooms (stay in 11 or 14 if you can), service and activities. Upon arrival at their dock on one of their boats from Sierpe, we were warmly welcomed by the manager, Olman, and he set the stage for a stay that was second to none. The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive and should be commended. Of course, the owner Bradd adds that spice that only comes from someone who has artfully transformed a piece of rainforest into luxury accommodation over the many years of living in Costa Rica.

What is remarkable isn't that the accommodation, service or activities are fantastic -- it is that this all exists in a remote location where the virgin rainforest meets the beach on the Osa peninsula. As we know very well, it is possible to try to provide all these things in different parts of Costa Rica, but to do so in a location such as Bahia Drake is truly amazing. Our expectations were high based on the prices on the website, but our expectations were not only exceeded based on the great accommodation, but the impeccable service. Given we own vacation rental properties and a company (EcoVida Properties) that rents out many other vacation rentals in Costa Rica, we set the bar high and Aguila de Osa flies well over that bar (pun intended). We also truly know how hard it is to do what the Aguila team does!

As for the activities, there is nothing more serene than a kayak trip up the river where the dock is located, or heading out the opposite direction to the bay for a completely different experience. The kayaks are provided at no cost and although we didn't have the time on our weekend trip, next time we'll definitely try out some scuba diving or even fishing with their in-house guides. Our guided whale and dolphin watching tour was a highlight as well. Hiking the coastline is a must, exploring the beaches all the way to Corcovado national park. The path runs through the breathtaking gardens of Aguila either toward the small town of Drake's Bay, or down the coast towards the park.

And then there are the meals. Again - remarkable. Fine dining in the jungle and some of the best baked goods we've ever had in Costa Rica. We will most certainly be back!

Room Tip: Rooms 11 and 14 are more private overlooking Drake Bay.

We spent 4 days and nights at the hotel and it simply fantastic. We are a family of four with two girls at the ages of 6+10 which can be challenging at times. We spent 4 days in the nature, did the mangrove boat tour (amazing) horse back riding in the rain forest (amazing again) and just lying in a hammok in a picture perfect set up overlooking the ocean. We spent time walking in the rain forest resting on one of the most beautiful secluded beachs we've been too and just winding down and spending some family time together. Brad (the owner) Olman the hotel manager Carlos the nature guide, Dixon the chef (who made sure our girls did not starve...) and the rest of the hotel staff went out of their way to make our stay as plesent as possible and accommodate all of our needs to ensure that we have an amazing and memorable vacation. I do not to typically write reviews about hotels but I felt that the team in Aguila De OSA truly deserve this one.

Fantastic place. A lodge in the rain forest. Monkeys, iguanas, and birds can be seen from your hotel room (but can be noisy at night). There are few rooms, and the meals are taken on large tables, thus you can meet the other guests, which is nice. The meals are good, the service is great, and the hotels offers great tours. The snorkeing tour was a bit rough (waves, current), and we did not see that many fishes. The tour at San Pedrillo was nice, but too short.

Room Tip: Rooms 9, 10 and 11 have a hammock outside
