Arriving at the site was an adventure in itself. We were driven across three rivers due to washed out bridges. The last foot of the journey involved getting in and out of the boat in the water - no dock facilities. The cabins are small but generally neat and clean, however the electricity is intermittent. We had no lights or warm water for two days.

If you are on a diet this is a good place to go. The meals are good but very light and mostly vegetarian which we did not expect from the information given on the website. Because this is the rainy season we got totally drenched during each outing. There was no means of getting clothing or shoes dry and no offers of extra towels from the management. Roy, the guide, however was very knowledgeable and genuinely helpful. We saw a good number of dolphins but no whales or other marine life and the sea was too rough for snorkeling. Corcovado N.P. was good.

“Our awesome Costa Rica Adventure!”

Delfin Amor Eco Lodge

Our family just completed an amazing adventure to Costa Rica and Delfin Amor, so we are all contributing to this review. From start to finish, it was an amazing trip - we loved our jungle arrival (tiny plane to jeep to boat), the beautiful scenery, the incredibly friendly staff and knowledgeable tour guides, the awesome food, our fellow guests, and our exciting daily adventures.
From our 9-year-old son: I loved Delfin Amor so much. It was the best vacation I’ve ever had in my life (I loved it even more than our trip to Disneyworld). There was lots of animals you could see around the lodge including capuchin monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, blue morpho butterflies, and there is a sloth that lives around there but I never saw it. The dolphin tour was one of my favorite things we did there. I loved to see all the dolphins do spectacular tricks and jump into the air. And anyone would enjoy a nice relaxing day at Cano Island. You can go snorkeling there, and the only thing that was not relaxing was hiking up a steep hill. But the reward for doing that was a superb view of the ocean. I also enjoyed going to Corcovado Rainforest and seeing all the wildlife. The food was probably the best food I’ve ever tasted in my life. If you are a vegetarian you would die if you didn't taste it. Any kid or adult would definitely love to go to Delfin Amor.
From our 5-year-old daughter: My favorite part was the canopy tour and swimming in the waterfall on the hike through Corcovado National Park. And my other favorite part was going on the dolphin tour. I liked the snapper fish and it was really nice that the cook made macaroni and cheese and french fries for the kids. I loved feeding a banana to the cute monkeys but I did not like the bully monkey.
From my husband: This place is so unique and peaceful that it allows you to really enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Although we were busy all day long and fascinated by the surroundings you never felt hurried or tired. You can literally feel the stress leave your body as the days progressed. Swimming with dolphins, touring the miracles of the rainforest, and quietly observing unusual forms of wildlife is what this trip is all about. The unexpected treasures consisted of the delicious food and the friendly staff - those two things together with the nature provided a package that was far beyond my wildest dreams. If you're petty and pessimistic you could focus on some rustic features that would distract you from the beauty of this place. But I’ve never been to a place that blended simplicity with elegance so perfectly. Riding the horses on the beach was one of my favorite parts, and topping that off with swimming in a secluded waterfall was the kind of fun you can't find just anywhere. Watching my children's sheer delight over the wildlife and beautiful scenery was so fulfilling. Life's journey is not complete until you've taken a trip to Delfin Amor!

“Loved the Divine Dolphin Lodge”

Delfin Amor Eco Lodge

I just returned from a week stay at the
Divine Dolphin lodge in Drake Bay, Costa Rica. I took a small group there to enjoy nature and the Dolphins, Whales and Turtles.
The week was so filled with wonder, beauty and fun that we couldn't believe it.
The Costa Rican staff made me feel like a queen. The service was superb!
The small attention to detail made this nature lodge in the middle of the rain forest seem like a four star hotel. For example, the towels are butter soft.. The quilts are all decorated with ocean themes...The candlelight dinners have lovely linens and excellant food.. the candles in the sand for the beach bonfires are another special touch... All this and more.It was an exotic and spiritual experience under the starry sky. The natural untouched beauty of the bay and the flowers and birds and butterflies. Wow. We were all so blown away.
Of course the reason we went was for the encounters with Dolphins and Whales. We were not disappointed!
The place is amazing and I can not wait to go back. Of course Sierra the owner is trying to save the bay, so all the trips there help to get documentation and aid her efforts. If you love nature and natural settings, but want to sleep comfortably and eat like a queen, then this is the place for you.

“In paradise, but far from it...”

The lodge location is beautiful with good snorkeling in front and a variety of local wildlife. The tour guides were the best anywhere. The accomodations were adequate with the cabinas and bathrooms being mostly screened. However, large gaps at the top allowed in all sorts of critters including tarantulas, scorpions, roaches, and grasshoppers. My disappointments were three-fold. First, the food (upon arrival you are told the lodge is vegetarian)! Fish was served on 3 of my 7 nights there, but if you are not a veggie fan you will not be happy here. Second, the dogs ... I am a veterinarian and animal lover, but was less than thrilled to have the beautiful jungle nights interrupted by barking dogs. Finally, several times the ambience was completely disrupted by modern music coming from the staff quarters. ONE FINAL NOTE...Costa Rica has recently enacted a law prohibiting tourists from swimming with the dolphins, so do not expect to so (legally anyway)!!! The manager/owner claims to be there to protect the marine life, but our stay included the period immediately after the law went into effect, and the manager still allowed tourists in to swim with the dolphins under the guise of an ocean "pit stop" where apparently everyone needed to go at once (with their snorkel gear and cameras in tow)!

this was my first time to costa rica and delfin amor.our small group booked 3 trips on the boat to see and hopefully swimm with the dolphins. on our first voyage we encountered a plentiful pod of spotted dolfins and were able to swimm with them-it was exciting and thrilling. on the second trip, we saw a small pod that was resting and we let them be and didn't see any more for the rest of that day which was a bit disappointing. On our third adventure out, Sierra, the lodge's most welcoming owner and dolphin-lover, found 2 incredible pods of spinner dolphins that came together and gave us a spectacular show full of joy and exuberance as they leaped and spun their bodies round and round. when we respectfully entered the water, their home, they were all around us giving us side glances and allowing us to swimm with them. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of spinner dolphins all around us!. As for dolphin amor I can't say enough. The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming and treated us as family without being overwhelming. The rooms were very comfortable and the FOOD; well, all I have to say about that is that I gained 8 pounds! I want to thank Sierra for her wonderful hospitality and great personhood. All the best, Bee Zollo (with Judy's group)
