Just came back from 2 weeks in C.R. This was our 4 th time there and always travel around the country.
Altogether, we have stayed at 20+ different places over the years and this is definitely not worth the money.
All the other guests and we did not know that The menu is 100% vegetarian except for fish once in five days. That was fine with us and everyone there but it might not be for you.
The place is run down and in need of some serious TLC. From the switch to the light in our bathroom ( a distance of 8 ft) I counted no less than 8 splices, no junction box. No screens at the eaves. The deck in the common area has no guardrail and the planked deck is rotting. The gate to the kitchen/fridge is disgustingly filthy.
Sierra was there the whole time we were and she never thanked us for the business or asked if everything was fine. It was not what we expected form the owner. After all, we did spend almost $2500.00 US dollars there.
The manager was caught lying to other guests about the availability of their tour. He also lied to us when it was our turn to go to Cano island. He said no boat was available to take us because they were booked for dolphin tours. Tours that two days before were not booked. It was either 4 of us Cano people at $100.00 US each or 8 of the others at $100.00 US. That's why they bumped us. it was after we threatened to leave a day early that a boat became available "after a lot of hard work". We didn't appreciate the attempt to make us feel guilty. We had booked this trip in July. Even our guide knew three days before that he was booked to go with us. It turns out he was on the dolfin tour, and we were dropped off by another boat from another hotel with our lunch and no tour guide (we enjoyed the day immensely nonetheless). They did expect us to pay the full price, $400.00 US, for the 40 min ride anyway. It was after I asked for a discount, (which I hate doing) at checkout that they charged me $45.00 US per person instead. Still too much. We left feeling shafted.
I opened my own successful business from scratch 10 years ago and I did not expect the same level of service I give my customers, only what we've come to expect from other places we stayed at in Costa Rica over the years.
If you're going there, make sure you like big, stinky dogs. One of them is bound to adopt you and park himself at your door, which we didn't mind but the barking at all hours of the night, my God. If I wanted to spend my vacation with dogs I would've brought our own dog, at least she doesn't bark! They have a scarlet macaw on site and they feed it table scraps like macaroni salad and that bugged me. My kids thought it was funny.
I recommend Drake Bay but not Delfin Amor, I just don't think you get value for money. If I was a millionaire, I guess I wouldn't care so much but we worked hard and saved for 3 years for this vacation and we were dissapointed.
On a good note, Roy was great, so was Kenneth, The chef is definitely a chef, the rooms was cleaned nicely, Victor lied but I think it wasn't his call, he was forced, he is obviously a very nice man.
If you've never been to Costa Rica, never seen a jungle, and never seen wild dolphins you will love this place. If you've been around the block a few times and like to get what you pay for, you'll be dissapointed.
