My wife and I just got back from our first trip to Costa Rica. We spent three nights at Casita Corcovado with Jamie and Craig, and they couldn't have been more helpful or friendly or simpatico. This is a small place, just three guest rooms which share a single bathroom, but we were the only guests at the time, so we had the bath to ourselves.
We arrived on my wife's birthday, and Jamie and Craig had the front of the house, our room, and the back patio beautifully decorated with balloons and streamers. They served us a delicious meal, accompanied by a bottle of nice white wine — and, after dinner, they brought out a lovely decorated birthday cake and a bouquet of local flowers.
Breakfasts are big and delicious — don't miss Jamie's huevos rancheros! — there's lots of coffee, the shower is hot and has plenty of water pressure, there are umbrellas available for when it rains (and, during the rainy season, it definitely rains), both Craig and Jamie are fun to talk with and happy to talk, and Jamie's welcome "17-minute tour" of the village will orient you perfectly.
Easy walking distance to several good, inexpensive restaurants, and we got to see a pair of gorgeous scarlet macaws in the Parque Jaguares rights across the street.
There's no other place to put this, so let me say here that we were tipped to Casita Corcovado by the extremely helpful Rayna Levin, an American who now lives in CR and owns her own travel business. She put together a fabulous trip for us, and we're very much in her debt — you can find her by doing a Google search on "rayna levin costa rica."
I also want to mention the guide Rayna hooked us up with. Cesar Moraga Ruiz is an amazingly knowledgable and friendly young man. He took us on a terrific kayak ride down the Rio Sierpe one day, then took us snorkeling off Isla Caño and spent the night with us at the San Pedrillo Ranger Station in the Corcovado National Park the night day. Highly highly recommended. You can find him by searching Facebook on his full name.
Jamie and Craig, thank you for making Laurie's birthday one she'll never forget, and for giving us many wonderful memories of Drake Bay!
