“-best place to stay ever...!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

When I booked the room I was excited because most hotels in the area already charge you for all the meals and tours... I am not a big fan of paying ahead of time for something I am not sure I want to get... So when we got to Finca Maresia we found out that it wasn't only the flexibility that they had, but sooo much more. The hotel is in the middle of a huge property and the view of every single place in the hotel is the forest. Juan is the nicest host ever.... He explains to you what the tours are, prices and what fits you best. And once you get back from the tours there's dinner... He has this way of doing dinner that I find very nice: Everyone sits together at a big table and has dinner together. So you end up talking to people from many other places and it's just nice... You feel like at home to be quite honest.

I do not only recommend this hotel, but I look forward to being able to go there again... It has everything one could wish for: Very clean and pretty rooms, amazing food (dinner is 3 dishes for only $15), good location and great value for your money!

We´ve been in Finca Maresia for our honeymoon, and it has been the best part of our month travel around Central America. Juan, the owner, is really great, and probably the best cooker in all Costa Rica, and the relation quality-price is the best you cand find in all Bahia Drake.
If I must repeat one part of this great trip, it will be for sure 4 or 5 days in Finca Maresia.
With no dout, the best place to stay in Bahia Drake.

We stayed 5 days at finca maresia and i can really say these were the 5 best days of the whole four week trip in costa rica. We stayed in superior cabina with private balcony and hammock. shower was open at one side to the jungle (no window, amazing!). The owner Juan was very helpful, kind and perfectly organized.

We enjoyed the delicious breakfast and lunch including amusing exchange of each days experiences of the other travellers.

We did the some tours which are all highly recommendable. Juan will give detail information about everything and arrange booking for you. Juan has rubber boots in any size for free which are recommended for jungle walks in rainy season.

- day 1: Guided Horsebackriding (with river crossing), short jungle walk and swimming in river.
- day 2: Guided tour to corcovado national park sirena station (we saw tapir and rarely seen squirrel monkeys and lots of other animals...)
- day 3: diving trip to cano island (sharks, giant turtles and lots of other fishes...)
- day 4: half ay walk at the beach front (not guided)

Thanks Juan!!!

Finca Maresia is on a beautiful hillside setting in Drake Bay. I would highly recommend it to birdwatchers and eco-adventurists... but I wouldn't recommend it to families with very young children. The cabins have patios with very minimal railings that would make almost any parent nervous. I couldn't let my six year old son out on the patio (or at the main lodge dining area) without my constant supervision. I felt very safe letting him run around the grounds... as there in no one around but other hotel guests... and he loved the "butterfly bed." But without TV or a pool he was quickly bored. Getting there on the river boat was the most exciting part for him... speeding over the waves was thrilling!

We took a great day trip to go horseback riding and hiking to the river with a local guide that Juan (the owner) recommended. We had a fabulous time... but its hard to trek through jungles and rivers... its not for everyone. All of the beaches are at least a 30-40 minute walk away. The rooms have no A/C and no chairs to sit and relax in... there's one hammock on the patio. I love the minimalist styling of the eco-friendly cabins (lots of concrete and on open air shower that is really cool!), but its not for people who want to be pampered or need a "resort" feel.

Dinners every evening were out of this world. Juan and his staff serve a wonderful dinner and dessert every evening. He makes sure you are well-fed! Our lunch and all of our breakfasts were fabulous as well. Juan even went into town and bought our son (a picky eater) special items for breakfast and dinner.

The service here is extra-ordinary, as is the experience... but its not for those who want an easy vacation. Bring extra cash as no one takes credit cards and there isn't an ATM in town.

This is an amazing place! We stayed here in June 2010 for 5 days – unfortunately, it should have been longer!!! It was the best place we stayed in our 3-week trip through Costa Rica.
Finca Maresia is located up on the hills in a quiet piece of jungle. Right when we arrived two red Ara parrots flew by (not the only time…). The separated lodges are very nice, absolutely clean, furnished with exceptional details (open shower, fresh flowers, hammock on the terrace, etc). From the main lodge you enjoy a rich breakfast and very good food for lunch or dinner. You can even spot the sea if you look above the jungle trees.
We did some half-day trips when we were there including Parque Nacional de Corcovado (highly recommendable) and a three hour walk along beautiful beaches. However, we always enjoyed being back in our lodge after the trips and just hang around in this quiet and relaxed place in the nature. Miguel, the Spanish owner, is a very nice, relaxed, and helpful guy. He explained us right in the beginning which things are to do around Finca Maresia and then did all the bookings and organization for us. Thank you so much, Miguel!

Bahia Drake is quite a special spot in Costa Rica. Finca de Maresia is the perfect place to really appreciate how special it truly is. From the architecture of the stylish rooms, to the delicious food, to the howler monkeys in the trees and the scarlet macaws flying in twos and threes in front of our private porch, we weren't ready to leave when it was time to go. We had many memorable meals around the big common dining table overlooking gorgeous jungle. There was so much to do there. So peaceful and relaxing. The Corcovado Jungle, Isla del Cano, Josecito Beach etc. I've highly recommended this place already to quite a few people already and hope to return...
