“Friendly welcoming owner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

Away from the touristy area, Finca Marinesa is a great spot in the surounded by nature. Juan, the owner, is amazing. He tries to learn every guest's name and takes time for every special need. He prepares delicious meals every evening. We all sit at one big table and get to meet the other travellers. Rooms are really clean and confortable. Great place! I highly recommend it!

The location in the jungle is amazing. You'll get to see brilliant wild life every day but the buildings has been done very sympathetically.

The facilities and food are really good.

Very good value for money.

Attracts really nice customers.

Finca Maresia was like our home away from home for five nights in July 2014. We went out each morning for adventures and came home each evening to dinner with our temporary family there. Breakfast and dinner are served family style on the deck overlooking the jungle. Whoever is there gets to eat together, exchange stories, and talk about ideas and life. Nowhere else in our travels in CR did we have such rich opportunities to commune with other travelers. Juan is like the papa of the place, patiently explaining all the activities in English or Spanish, making the arrangements, and transporting you--on time--where you need to be. The bungalows are a simple yet elegant design with a beautiful bathroom with shower overlooking the jungle (we watched scarlet macaws from here), a wonderful porch with two hammocks, and a great ceiling fan to keep you cool. Loved it. My five year old cried when we left.

Miguel is awesome! If you don't mind a 45 minute walk to Drake Bay (We didn't) then Finca Maresia is your choice. Friendly and helpful staff, gorgious view from the room and so much wildlife to be experienced without ever leaving the property. Quality meals, comfortable and affordable.. What else can I say? We'll be back!!

we stayed there with our family for 2 weeks (2 adults and 2 children 3-5 years). the hotel was beautiful and calm built on small hills covered in grass with the rainforest just outside the window. we stayed here at the end of our 8 week traveling around costa rica and this is the place we fell in love with. between the cabins the grass made it easy for the kids to be abel to explore by them self and the rainforest outside had a lot of traking for us adults as well, when you felt like activate yourself the owner was very helpful and often it felt like he had read our minds, often the trip was planned almost at the same time we thought about it. diving, zipline and guided walks was awesome (the best in costa rica, according to us). of al the 10-15 hotels we stayed at, this had the best service of al, it really felt like the owner was happy to help and make the best of our stay.
the hotel is away from the village and about 15 min downhill to the sea, but everybody needs a walk now and then. the only negative we have to say about this place was that the dinner was not the greatest but on the plus side it was nice that there was the option to eat at the hotel when you did't have the energy to go in to town, another positive thing about the dinner was that everybody eat together at a big table witch makes it easy to connect with other guest and talk about different activities you would like to do.
we recommend to eat at the restaurant just at the end of the downhill dirt road or at the small restaurant in town that served only fish (the best fishtaco in the country) or at an quite restaurant (dont know the name) past the town by a river (the owner Miguel probably know which one, a friend of him I think).
We strongly recommend this hotel if you dont mind live a bit away from the beaches.

We stayed in Finca Maresia for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The finca is located 2 kilometers inside the jungle which gives a totally different feeling than staying in Drake itself.

The rooms/bungalows were very clean and the sheets were excellent. If you stay in the bungalow you will have a beautiful exterior bathroom with jungle view (don't worry, you will only be seen by monkeys and birds).

After you've done your daily activity (which usually ends at 4-5 PM) you can have a beer at the main deck which is at tree top height while watching birds with a telescope.

Miguel, the host and owner, is very friendly and will set up a collective table for everyone to eat at night. He knows a lot about the place and can recommend stuff to do and where to eat.

we totally loved this B&B. we had a superior room, 2 double beds, gorgeous semi open air bathroom, balcony with 2 hammocks, really special and romantic. the villas were well spread out too, felt quite private. we also like the big table that everyone had meals together at, it made this the most sociable place we stayed. there is an honesty bar, very reasonable priced drinks. dinner very good, $15 and better than messing about going into town which was maybe 15 minute drive away. its a set sitting for dinner 6pm, and most people at there, so it was nice and sociable. we can't recommend it highly enough - peace, quiet, but still sociable, romantic, lovely views, listening to the howler monkeys, seeing birds. manuel will help organise trips and do an early breakfast if your trip leaves early. do the horse riding with pepe, its very good value. and the night tour with the "bug lady". we wanted to do snorkeling but were unlucky as there was lots of algae in the water so we were recommended to save our money as the visibility was poor, it was a shame, but it was nice that manuel didn't let us waste money and be disappointed. we stayed 4 nights, that was pretty good to see and do plenty and still relax.

Room Tip: we liked the superior room because we wanted our own bathroom. they are lovely rooms.
