“Finca Maresia is terrific!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Nothing of our trip in Costa Rica was really plannend, except one thing; our trip to Finca Maresia. We were from the first contact moment with Juan (one of the owners) via e-mail impressed. Juan provided a lot of information about getting to Drake Bay, things to do, things to think of, how to get to Finca Maresia from the boat, etc. Everything was totally clear for us, before we even arrived. As soon as Juan picked us up from the boat in Drake Bay, we felt very welcome. During the 10 minute drive to Finca Maresia Juan explained some basic things about the area. When we arrived Juan had a nice surprise for us, he upgraded our standard to a superior room because of the green season. After checking in, we sat down and Juan started telling about all the different available tours you can do and how the restaurant and common area works.

We felt very welcome! Juan is great in giving advice and arranging tours, helping you to have the right equipment for the tours (such as boots). In total we've done three tours; snorkeling, horse backriding and a day at Corcovado. All were fantastic with great guides and a lot of wild life!

The location is beautiful and is surrounded with wild life, such as frogs, toucans, parrots, etc. We liked the common area and dining together with quests a lot. Juan cooks everyday a very tasty meal and takes diet preferences (fish, meat or vegatarian) into account. Besides the great food, it is really interesting and fun to have dinner with people from all over the world and to share your travel and tour experiences. We've met some really nice people!

The cabins are really nice decorated. We loved the outside in shower, hammock and surrounded jungle sounds.

We can't wait to go back!

this place is litterally amazing! Bungalows are very nice and cozy. It is the contrast of modern place in the middle of the nature which makes this place unique. Juan, one of the owners, is fun and very well prepared on tours and possible B plans in the case the rain and wind doesn't allow you to do the initial plan. Last ... but not least the food is excellent! highly recommended!

Room Tip: I was in bungalow n.2 and it was very good!

We stayed here for 6 nights at the end of our journey through Costa Rica. Glad this was our final stay, because everything you'll visit after Corcovado and Finca Maresia will be less interesting. Almost every animal we saw in other parts of Costa Rica we also saw here; plus more like tucans and scarlat macaws. The Finca Maresia is just an extraordinary place. Juan is extremely friendly and helpful, we sometimes felt sorry for him, how hard he works. Bringing and getting people to/from the beach, explaining about the surroundings, cooking for 12 people every day. He also helped us a great deal in planning our five day stay; during the first few days the visibility for snorkeling was poor, and he advised us to wait. This proved right, because on the fourth day the visibility was great and we had a fantastic snorkeling experience.

Just some more inside information about the tours: take the long horse riding tour. I'm normally more a motorcycling and mountainbiking guy but the horse riding through the jungle, little creeks and passing farms was just awesome. There's also a canoe trip half way between Rincon Beach and Drake Bay (with Ricardo), we liked this less because the canoe trip wasn't actually about canoeing, but more about upstream swimming and climbing rocks to get to a waterfall. If you're up for something adventurous it'll be okay but we thought we went canoeing.

All in all Finca Maresia is highly recommend, great cabins (the showers are just amazing...), lots of cool activities, but also suitable to relax and chill in your hammock with a cold beer.

During our holiday in CR, we stayed a couple of days at Finca Maresia. We were surprized by the personal touch and help of Juan! Beside that his cooking was very well; the cabinas very proper, modern, with good bed and clamboo.
We enjoyed our stay, with perfect possibilities for tours.
Thanks again, Juan!

We were in Costa Rica for just over 2 weeks and this was a highlight for us. Other reviews say it all. There is a wonderful, relaxed community vibe (and the people who stay there are generally cool!). The food is awesome! and there is an open beverage fridge where you just sign out what you've taken. Juan is the zen master of expertly making arrangements for transportation, tours, or whatever. He is knowledgeable without being at all pushy about what you do or don't do. The communal area has amazing views, hammocks, excellent music, telescope, etc. I wish I were there right now!!

Finca Maresia has to be seen to be believed. The stunning setting comes out of nowhere after the muddy, bumpy drive up from the beach. The whole place is full of wonderful, unique touches and all guests needs have been thought of (from a telescope of watch the macaws and toucans to wellies that can be borrowed free for your hike in the national park). The communal deck is a great place to relax with a beer and watch the wildlife. Juan, one of the owners, could not have been more helpful and arranged everything we needed to make our stay perfect. In fact, we extended by an extra night because we liked it so much! Unbelievable for the price.

I am usually not good in writing reviews..but I am going to for this one.

This place will be on the top of my list for a long time to come. The location is awesome. Juan the manager runs the show and is very very helpful and friendly. The place is very clean and breakfast is great.
The common area (w/ the dining table) is just fantastic!
You can spend the whole day on this semi-open patio and enjoy bird(and sometime monkey) watching or relax in the hammocks.
If you are going to Drake Bay you have to stay here.
Oh and BTW, Juan is a great cook and I enjoyed the dinners a lot!
