“Splendor on the Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

This little resort is tucked away on a private cove just south of Dominical. The beach to the south of the cove has some fantastic surfing for beginners and intermediates. The staff at the resort was very knowledgeable and helpful during our 3 day stay. We loved the deck and food in the cafe was fresh and delicious. We have friends locally and they all rave about the Paraiso, so you know you've come to the right place. Book early. It is a small resort which is the biggest part of its charm.

We stayed 2 nights with our 2 boys and brother-sistern in law. They added 2 cots to our room for our 2 boys. Unfortunately, the restaurant was being renovated and was closed during our stay. The hammocks, setting was beautiful. The jagged rocks in front of the property was beautiful to look at (and sip a glass of wine in front of a setting sun)- but to swim we had to take a trek up the beach. The room did have a kitchenette, which we put to good use.

We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here for 3 days up to new years eve. With 3 kids and us parents all in the same room (Coconut room) it was tight and somehow comfortable all at the same time. There was a fridge, micorwave and little sink- so simple meal prep was possible. No TV's- so only the beautiful surroundings to keep you busy. The beach is more like a volcanic rock formation. The waves crashing are always beautiful. You need to drive a bit to get to a "real beach"- but not a big deal. The staff was super friendly- and helpful as we faced a car issue during our stay. I would highly recommend Ballena Info Center for all sorts of different tours- whale/dolphins (we saw both), snorkeling at the whale's tale (awesome!), horseback riding you name it. This hotel was a great value and perfect place to lay your head after a day of fun activiites. No restaurant while we were there (which was a bummer)- but otherwise perfect for us.

We are here right now in the Tucan villa with a spectacular garden & ocean view. Comfy beds and a short distance to Dominical. The beach, pool, staff, grounds are magnificent here. Highly recommended.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011

My wife and our 2 year old daughter stayed here recently for five nights. We spent 4 weeks in Costa Rica and have had accomodations in all sorts of ranges.

We spent 3 nights in the Pelican roost, and 2 nights in the Toucans nest.

In short, we enjoyed every minute here, some little discomforts were small and compensated by the stunning location and views.

From the information on the website you can build a pretty good picture on the layout of the Costa Paraiso. However upon arrival I found the sea to be much closer then expected.

There is a dining area, some terraces, a deck and a nice modest pool.

The pelican roost has a kitchenette and and two comfortable queen size beds. There is ocean view from all rooms but the view from the (smaller) Tucans nest is unbeatable. There is no hot water in the kitchenette and the plug in the sink was missing. Furthermore it is clearly time to replace the pots and pans. Huge refrigerator in this room.

There is an electrical shower wich provides a modest amount of hot water, but it does the job.

The Pelican roost was well screened, so you can sleep comfortably with the windows open and a/c off. There is some truck noise from the nearby road, but this vanishes in the evenings and weekend, and is replaced by waves crashing on the rocks just a few meters away.

The Toucans nest is much smaller than the other rooms but offers the best view over the Pacific from your bed and is much more private. It is not screened.

This lodge is 2 km south of Dominical, so a car is in my opinion a must if you want to be flexible.

We found out upon check in (sign) that the kitchen of the restaurant was not finished yet and there was no breakfast and diner available. To be honest we would have preferred an email and some explanation before arrival to be prepared. Instead this email arrived when we where there on our third day.

With a 2 year old easy breakfast on the premises is very welcome. But with the kichenette and a car the problem was managable.

This however should not affect the future traveller since the works were almost finished.

From the rooms you can walk to Dominicalito beach, a very quiet beautiful beach with a good surf (no restrooms or food here) and in Dominical there is plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you satisfied.

This was certainly a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica and we would return when visiting the Dominical area.

We stayed here with our two boys. No TV(this is good) very relaxing.
There is a pool which was used everday and they do have wi-fi.
Unfortunately we stayed during a time when the kitchen was being renovated and they had no restaurant. It would have been nice to know before we arrived. We did go to the market to buy some groceries that we could make do with the fridge, microwave and toaster in the room.
The sunset was amazing! The water spashing on the rocks looked awesome!
All the staff were very friendly.
The grounds keeper never stopped it seemed, very nice grounds.
House keeping was also great.
All and all very nice hotel and would stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

We stayed here back in March with our two kids. The location is beautiful! Sandra was very helpful in scheduling some surfing lessons. She also made us some delicious pina coladas even though they weren't technically on the menu. We also enjoyed having a kitchen to help us keep costs down. In sum, beautiful location with wonderful staff.
