“Great place to relax!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Right in front of the beach. Setting made for travellers to really relax: hammocks, relaxing lounge, TV... All is open air so you get a nice breeze. Good vibe in the place and you get to meet plenty of travellers.
Rooms are separated by curtains and small walls and every bed has a net.

I planned to stay in Dominical only two days at first, but they quickly converted into 7 days. This hostel is in a cute wooden house just in front of the beach, with several common zones with a library, a TV, several tables and hammocks. The owners are a couple of Frenchman, super nice and cute. They rent surfboards. The kitchen is fully equiped with a blender (mmm, fresh fruit cocktails!). Arguably the best and cheapest place to stay in Dominical

This is the THE place to stay in Dominical. The hostel itself is basic, but perfect. Located right across from the beach, it has only dorm beds, spread out in bunks, including double beds in various rooms that are separated by hanging curtains and sheets. The whole.hostel is part of a building that is essentially open air, with a massive roof and the air flowing through. There is plenty of communal chill out zones, complete with surf boards tables, comfort couches and even a chill.out room. There is also a massive tv and video with 5 couches in front of it for a tv night in!

The place has a kitchen ad free coffee, two bathrooms and showers and an outdoor shower to wash off all the sand from the day at the beach.

Security is great and lockers are provided.

Surf boards are available to borrow and the couple that own it are always available and friendly.

Really, you could not want a more real hostel and I was in love with its simplicity and how the owners really know what backpackers need on the beach. It's not a five star hostel, it is a backpackers hostel and you should set your expectations accordingly, but it is one of the best backpackers hostels around!

Thanks for sharing great stay.

For anyone looking to visit a place not too touristy, but tourist friendly regardless...Dominical is the place to go...and cool vibes is the pace to stay! Phenomenal design and location, service is amazing, an the whole atmosphere of the hostel goes soo well with the town and its super Pura Vida vibe. I would go to Dominical over and over again, and stay at Cool vibes time and time again:)

This place is just killer. The owners are authentic and so committed to their mission. They have provided an awesome environment for connecting with the waves, other travelers, and the beauty of this beautiful beach town. Celine and Sri make the atmosphere and are very fair, considerate, and hospitable. It's a lovely place to land and call home while you spend your stay in dominical. I got to surf every day, chill out in the hammock and sun room, take afternoon naps, spend quiet nights reading and writing in the open air very spacious ocean front lounge room. This place is clean, welcoming, and offers security. I appreciated the calm space and full kitchen. They also have a great range of boards to rent and it definitely lives up to its name of cool vibes. I'll definitely be back there soon! X

I was originally planning to stay in Dominical for a couple of nights. However, the lovely town and friendly, relaxed hostel consequently doubled my length of stay in Dominical.

Cool vibes hostel is located on the main road on Dominical, about 4 minutes walk from the goods and services in Dominical. This was a very convenient place to be located - you have a sense of seclusion while staying at the hostel, while being just a short walk away from the centre of Dominical. As well as this, Cool Vibes is just 30 seconds from the gorgeous Pacific coastline. Since you're a little while from the centre of Dominical, it isn't hard to find a secluded spot away from other visitors.

The hostel consists of four rooms with 6 beds in each room (I presume, anyhow, since the only room I entered was my own), complete with secure lockers and padlocks.
These rooms surround a brilliant common room area, complete with chairs, tables, a hammock and power sockets. This common room has a beautiful, open space to look out onto the sea. A great place to chill out and chat to other travellers. My only issue with this area was that it got very dim once the sun went down. This made it difficult to play cards/read & write. It is very close to the rooms, however 'quiet time' begins at 10pm, so sleeping shouldn't be an issue - it wasn't for me.

When you leave the common room you come to the reception area, kitchen and living area. The reception area has some leaflets/maps which are helpful. Though not as many as some other hostels I've visited.
The living area consists of a TV (I think it has Sky), a DVD player equipped with many DVDs, and a PlayStation 2 with a few games. I didn't spend much time here, but it's a great thing to have, no doubt.

The kitchen area is very well equipped. Cooking decent meals was a breeze, and necessities such as oil were provided. Keeping your food safe from other residents was easy, since means of food tagging were provided. My only issue with the kitchen was lighting the gas stove. All I had to light it was a dud lighter. Consequently the room stank of gas by the time I finally got the stove lit.

Once you pass this area you come to the toilets/showers. Two of each, very clean and functional. No complaints here. Though a fussy resident may dislike the distance from the rooms to the showers.

Finally we come to the smoking room/secondary common room, another great place to chill out after a day on the water. Here we have chairs, a couple of hammocks, sofa and a little table. Though I'm not a tobacco smoker I found myself spending a fair amount of time here in the evenings since it's much better lit than the other common room.

The owners of the hostel were very friendly and accommodating. They were happy to answer any queries I had throughout my stay, and booking extra nights was a breeze. They also provide surfboard hire. They have a wide range of boards. Different shapes and sizes to accommodate for beginners and pros alike. A full days hire is a very reasonable $10 (5000 colones)

To conclude, I had a brilliant time here. Great vibe, great people, great facilities. My biggest issue was the lighting.. Yeah, that's it..

For $10 a night, I don't think you can get much better value than this.

We were eagerly welcomed into Cool Vibes Beach Front Hostel by the owners Sri and Celine. They were super friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The hostel itself, is very "cool" and has a great open room/deck that looks out the the Pacific Ocean, as well as having loads of big iguanas crawling around. There are lots of surfers in town, and many of them stay at this hostel. We originally planned to stay longer, but something happened with our dates, and Sri was more than accommodating and didn't mind being flexible and giving us a refund, which I really appreciated.
