“Nice spot, shot walk to the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here during a tour with G Adventures. Beautiful grounds. Rooms come with outdoor kitchenette, lounge and hammock. Room was clean and spacious. Only wifi in the lobby and restaurant. Breakfast was ok, not fabulous.

The hotel grounds are beautiful and very well kept with great sightings of many birds & butterflies etc. Stella at the reception desk is excellent, very helpful and friendly. The pool is a good size but there were not enough sun beds or chairs when we arrived as there are only a handful & several were broken. Nice looking restaurant serving decent breakfast. However the service in the evenings was slow at times and the steaks we both had one evening were terrible and inedible. The staff were very nice though. We had a standard room which had a nice outside sitting area with a fridge, which was a bonus. However the bedrooms are in need of redecoration and the bathrooms need completely gutting and replacing. The bed was so uncomfortable and the 1 pillow each a waste of time. The room wasn't as clean as it should be - the light switches and sockets were filthy from years of use & non cleaning. There was only a ceiling fan which was not particularly effective. The wi-fi in our room was non-existent and in the public areas wi-fi was hit and miss and painfully slow when it was working. We always look for wi-fi in all hotels as we have a business that is entirely reliant on the internet, so this was very frustrating for us. We were disappointed over-all with this hotel - we are very well travelled throughout the world. We have stayed in cheaper priced hotels during our 5 weeks in Costa Rica which have been much better, despite some not having a pool. Attention to details is lacking and the bedrooms & bathrooms seem to be sliding for lack of maintenance. We had only booked for 2 nights with plans to extend by another 4 nights but changed our minds the first evening. Our next hotel just down the road is half the price and although it has no pool, the rooms are cleaner, it has TV and a/c, ceiling fan and high speed internet everywhere & most importantly very comfortable mattresses and pillows and is still set in b beautiful gardens.

We spent 4 nights in Jan 2014. Our rooms were large and comfortable. Junior suites with 2 kings. We were pleased with the beds, hot water, cleanliness, and linens. Our rooms had fans and air conditioning, but usually the fan was adequate. I loved the efforts made by management with recycling, water conservation, solar panels, and general reminders about electricity use. We ate in the restaurant often. Carol is a treasure, and Samantha also provided excellent service. The food is generally good, and several of the dishes are wonderful. Recommend the Caprese salad, the quesadillas, the shrimp/pineapple dinner, and the Pura Vida cocktail. While there, we booked a kayak trip through the mangroves and a boating/ hiking trip to Corcovado.

Estimado cliente,

Villas Rio Mar is a beautiful and accommodating place to stay. The grounds are well manicured, the pool is awesome, the adjoining bar has a tropical tiki style to it, the room was very nice, and felt completely safe. But the best aspect of Villa Rio Mar was the friendly staff. I truly enjoyed waking up to the sounds of tropical birds, drinking good coffee and eating fresh fruit. I will certainly return to this resort when staying in Dominical. The daily activities were amazing. Whitewater kayaking on Rio Savagre, Sea kayaking in the Waves and Caves tour, Canopy zip line tour, Surf lessons, and flying along the coast in an Ultralight plane are just a few of the highlights. The guides and coordinator were very knowledgable and friendly. It is true, Costa Rica is the friendliest place in the world. From the resort a very scenic and peaceful walk along the turquoise colored Baru river into the town of Dominical took 10 minutes. I recommend getting a chilled coconut from the stand in town. The Sushi place in Dominical is highly recommended as well. The food at Villa Rio Mar is at the top too.

We have been in this resort for 8 nights. We stayed in lodge 330; a good bed- and bathroom and a nice outdoor livingroom with a small refrigerator and a sink, also a hammock. The resort itself was very beautifull with a lot of different plants, trees and animals. We also loved the swimmingpool and restaurant. The staff is very friendly. Dominical is a 10-15 minutes walk.
We recommend this place to other people, because we had a great time!

Villas Rio Mar was referred to us by one of the restaurant owners in Dominical and it had good reviews on Trip Advisor. We found the hotel to be an excellent choice. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous. We ate dinner in the restaurant and both my wife and I had superb meals. They have all the amenities you will need to have a wonderful visit.
