“Great Place to Stay and highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

Susie and George along with their two dogs run a great place. The cabins are spacious and outfitted with kitchenettes. Everything is very clean and well preserved. We saw monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, a wide variety of butterflies, frogs and of course the ever present geckos. The small pool is refreshing after a hot day in the sun. Susie cooks up great meals if you choose to partake. We didn't want to leave after a three night stay, it was so pleasant and relaxing.

Again, a great place to stay and don't be put off by the drive and road up the hill!

Just got back from our second trip to Pacific Edge. Our second extended visit was even better than the first. I love the high mountain location which captures the ocean breezes and provides you with the best view I have seen in Costa Rica. I love the cabins with nice linens, a great mattress and good pillows. Having stayed in hotels with no air conditioning and no fans. I love the refreshing cool air of the fans.
I found the host and hostess very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Suzi gave us great suggestions and good directions for eating out, live music, and things to do in the area.. I was very pleased to have the option of having dinner and/or breakfast their.
I found the meals very tasty and quite reasonable.
I especially enjoyed the hospitality of both hosts and enjoyed their pura vida-happy days attitude. I would not hesitate to book a cabin for a third visit.
The towers are perfect for watching the sunset and birds. The pool is perfect for a cool down.

Pacific Edge Cabins is a real chill out piece of paradise with a stunning view of jungle meets beach. There are 4 cabins on a steep hill. Each cabin is unique and very clean. Ceiling fans are quiet and help keep you cool during the day and night. Coffee makers and fridges are in each room. Also there are utensils for your use. The grounds are lovely. A great fresh water pool with wonderful views is also on the grounds. A bird tower is also available for use to observe wildlife/birds. We heard plenty of howler monkey's however, we didn't see any. Toucans and numerous birds are everywhere. Beautiful insects and hummingbirds are abound. Taking a hike up the steep road from Pacific Edge is also recommended. You'll see lots of critters. The hosts were helpful and made arrangements for our tours and recommended sighs to see. Dinner was well prepared and very good. This is really wonderful place, it's not for every one. If you are looking for a beautiful setting with semi rustic accommodations no tv, no air conditioning, (which is not needed), then this place is for you. If you're looking for all the amenities at a corporate, chain resort, then go to a Marriott or similar. This is the real deal. You're a visitor in the jungle.

This was our third time at Pacific Edge and our best time ever! We enjoy visiting with George and Susie--not to mention Susie's wonderful cooking! The view from this place is unrivaled anywhere in Costa Rica and we feel extremely safe having the dogs around. It is easy for people to come through the jungle but, with the dogs around, they don't even think about it!!!

There is only one thing I would like to see change and that is some new mattresses! Also--you definitely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there--one of the reasons for the spectacular view!

We have also very much enjoyed the other guests that stay at "The Edge!" We made some wonderful friends that we look forward to seeing there again. We cannot wait for our return in January 2010!

Pacific Edge is by far, bar none, the best vacation spot in the world!! The grounds are stunning, the cabins private, relaxing and comfortable and the view is AWE INSPIRING. Susie and George are wonderful, they will forever be like family to us. The cabins really provide privacy and the feeling of being alone with your group in a cabin in the rain forest. This is a great place for a couple that wants privacy and romance or a group looking for good company and relaxation.

the location and view are beautiful and the grounds are nice. our group is well traveled and we knew what we were getting in advance (re: host issues) but were still unprepared. if you stay here, imagine you are meeting your future mother-in-law at her home and are trying to do your best to impress her and make her like you. that is the feeling you will have for the entire stay.

additionally, the rooms were not cleaned during our stay. it appeared the rooms were not even entered because the trash was never emptied, the coffee pot was left unclean from the previous visitor and stayed that way. i was told by the host to "keep up with
your towels because you won't be getting new ones."

know in advance that the showers are "suicide showers."

finally, if you stay here and eat meals here, everything is charged separately. when i was told that dinner was $16, that sounded fine. i was not told that salad was separate, dessert was separate, drinks were separate, garlic bread was separate. nothing was ordered and all food was served without question, so i was surprised to find our dinner bill near $25 per person. also strange is the owners sitting to eat with you and drink heavily. we were interested in visiting with each other, and the conversation was not our own.

Pacific Edge is ‘eco-friendly’, and it is our policy here to change the bath towels every, other day, and the sheets every 3rd day, or half way thru your stay, unless needed to be changed and requested. The towels located on a table at the pool area, are for both pool and beach use. We ask of the guests to re-use these towel, and to take them to their cabins, and hang them up on the balcony, not to leave them laying around the pool, and when the towels are wet and or sandy, to leave them in a basket at our common area; they can use as many of these towels they would like.
These folks were with us just 2 nights. We do not enter the rooms, every day, only on the third day to give new fresh bath towels and to check on the toilet paper, coffee and creamer top up, and to sweep, thus respecting the guests privacy . The garbage is placed in a large basket on the balconies, this is collected everyday, and the balconies swept . As stated in the ‘guests welcoming ‘page of our information book of the area, if the guests have any need for extra towels, or sheets changed, please advise us; other wise we do not enter the rooms on a daily basis. If the coffee pot was dirty, as claimed upon check-in, we wished we would have been informed at the time, so we could have made sure it was clean for the new user. The cleaning girl may have over looked this detail as there was a complete change over of all the rooms that day.
The shower heater, referred to as the ‘suicide shower’ is a heating element that sits on the shower head and water runs thru this element. When properly wired there is no need for worry. We have posted instructions on the wall of the shower, that if the guests want to change the temperature setting from hot to warm or cold, this is done with a switch located on the shower heater. We advise to adjust this switch without the water running, just for added protection, that there will be no minor shocks. We are in the process of changing over to individual ‘on demand’ water heaters; however since the cabins were originally wired for solar panels and solar power, the wiring needs to be beefed up to be able to handle new water heaters.

The first nights dinner had been pre-arranged by email.
Our menu has starters and the prices and entrees and the prices both separate, as most restaurants do. The price they were charged was more than fair. They were presented a basket of garlic bread for 2 people $1.50, and a salad of fresh organic greens, fresh heart of palm, bean sprouts, avocado, tomato, cucumber with balsamic vinegar for $4 (most salads at other restaurants are welted lettuce or cabbage with a tomato). The main entrée was a half pound of large shrimp served on fried rice with celery and red pepper and came with 3 other fresh vegetables for $16, for a total of $20.75 per person.
The following day 4 of the group went fishing .
The fishermen returned with fish they had caught, and asked if I could prepare it for them and if we would like to join them at their table.
Anyway, the cabins do stay very occupied most of the year with many returning happy people, we are sorry if we can not satisfy 100% of the people, we do make every effort to.

Hard to say enough about the beautiful little world Susie and George have created outside of Dominical, and others have done a wonderful job when speaking positively of it. So I will simply say, unless you're a hardcore Mariott/Hamptons/etc. requirer, this place is fantastic.

The views are stunning. The atmosphere is warm and genuine. The lodging is anything but Spartan - clean beds, furnished with local art, hand-made blankets, and an obvious level of attention and love that I haven't seen anywhere else in Costa Rica. It's obvious that Pacific Edge is the owner's baby. Great price, great view, great place.

Ignore all previous negative reviews which must have come from the Hilton Sisters.

  • Disliked — Adventure drive is fun in 4WD. Adventure drive is suspenseful in 2WD.

Here at Pacific Edge our cabins are all made from native hardwoods, and sometimes can appear dark, so to liven up the rooms we always use as many fabrics in our interiors that we can get that are all hand loomed by various indigenous Indian groups. All our bedspreads, curtains, pillows and chair cushions are sewn here my myself, Susie, having bought the fabric as yardage during travels to the various countries. The bedspreads are from both the Mayans of the Yucatan of Mexico and from Guatemala. The curtains some are from Guatemala and others from Costa Rica. The newest fabrics are from the Boruca Indians who are our closest Indians who weave a beautiful fabric. They start by growing their own cotton, spinning the yarn, and using natural dyes from plants, barks, and even sea snails. Our rooms are all decorated with these bright fabrics and also hand carved masks from the Borucans. We also have Molas in the bungalow unit which are from the Indians of the San Blas islands in Panama.
So the rooms are all artfully decorated with bright colors for your enjoyment. We are continually looking for new exciting fabrics to upgrade the rooms.
