Just off Dominical, on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, this delightful ecolodge is run by Jack Ewing (author of the delightful book Monkeys are Made of Chocolate) and his wife. The cabins are airy, very spacious and appointed with comfortable beds. There is a screened in front porch with rocking chairs and umbrellas (useful in the rainy season); every cabin has a refrigerator and a coffee maker (with good Costa Rican coffee) as well. Very large walk-in shower. There is no AC, but the ceiling fans circulate the air beautifully and maintain a very comfortable temperature. The Hacienda offers guided tours, but there are also self-guided trails through the forest as well as zip-line canopy adventures. The restaurant on site is surprisingly good -- great fish dishes, a surprisingly delightful ceviche, and cold beer! There is a nice pool on site, in front of the cabins, as well as a covered area with hammocks for lounging. A short walk away is a lovely beach, where they keep a turtle hatchery. The beach is a bit dangerous for swimming -- huge waves and strong undertow -- but delightful for a walk or jog. Good wireless internet to boot! Highly recommend.
