“lovely place outside dominical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

We stayed in the cabin for 2 nights. Sabina was very kind and helpful. Breakfast is excellent with jams and spreads made from fruit from the garden. Our kids loved the pool and cabin. We changed our plans for the rest of our trip based on Sabinas advice, all turned out excellent.

Hostess Sabina has built a gorgeously nestled, super smart collection of air-cooled bungalows into the jungle mountainside. With loving attention to detail, and a deep commitment to the environment, she's created a small paradise on earth. She's chosen to not have A/C in the rooms, which we found to be sufficiently cool due the cleverly designed ceiling vents. Fruit literally falls from the trees, which Sabina then makes into some of THE tastiest jellies I've had anywhere in the world. Albergue Alma de Hatillo was a major highlight of our two week trip around C.R.

As other reviewers have noted, this property is not in Quepos, but is in Hatillo, which is six km north of Dominical.

Also, the soda (local restaurant) at the bottom of the road below Albergue Alma de Hatillo, La Fiesta de Chicharrones is the single best soda of the many we visited in C.R.

Room Tip: The airiest rooms are at the top of the hill.

We stayed here with friends based on the Trip Advisor reviews and we're not disappointed. Sabina, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable and although there is no a/c they were very comfortable at night being well ventilated. The pool is nice with views out over the sea. The eating area is very pleasant and the dinner we had there cooked by David was very good. Breakfast was a bit basic - lots of fruit, toast and preserves.

I travel in different areas of Costa Rica often, when I am near Dominical, I go a few minutes N to Hattilo , directly off the highway to a very relaxing, comfortable stay with Sabina at the Albergue Alma de Hatillo.
About 5 years ago , I was lucky enough to find Sabina and the Alma. Nothing against surfers or Dominical, but I travel to enjoy nature and locale people and customs ,not crowds and noise.
Sabina's has provided me with birding, home grown fantastic fruit, a crystal clear relaxing pool, and directions and help looking for fishing , birding, secluded beaches. I have become friends with Sabina, and her help, William,Maricio and Didi , whom Sabina treats like family.
Sabina has helped me with language problems , local car rentals at the best price and made sure I got to destinations the most efficient way.
Sabina keeps the Alma de Hattilo spotless, comfortable, friendly and safe. The spacious grounds have many types for fruit trees and Sabina makes great use of these. A recent trip there in February 2014 birding with my girlfriend was a relaxing pleasure and I highly recommend the Alma de Hattilo and owner Sabina, who also speaks at least four or 5 languages .

This place is 25 miles from Quepos. It's at Dominical. It's right off the main highway so it's LOUD. It really is just OK, like more then $30 is too much. No A/C. Grounds are nice, owner tries hard, but this really isn't a "hotel" more like a B&B but in cabins.

Room Tip: Not here, so many other choices.

I recommend this comfortable place of retreat for anyone who appreciates well designed and immaculately clean, comfortable rooms, jungle song with back tones of surf in the near distance, a salt water pool, cheerful staff and the delicious cooking of the wonderful Didi. What really makes it special however, is Sabina the gracious hostess intent on caring for you and helping with all needs. She loves her garden passionately and uses the produce from it to make unique and tasty jams, spreads and chutneys.

This was a wonderful home/garden.....high up with lots of birds. It was very close to the highway and our room was noisy and the bed not comfortable. We really liked our gracious hostess . Sabina did everything possible for everyone. Beautiful person . The room included lovely fruit and some delicious toppings for bread. (too bad it was not good artisan bread) This could have turned the whole culinary experience around. Same breakfast each day. ...and you had to be there exactly 7:30. A little too linear for the vacation minded. There was a Yoga retreat there at the same time, so quiet was appropriate. This would be a wonderful place for a group retreat, Close to Dominical.

Room Tip: The Mango unit room facing the highway was noisy. Maybe the back room was quiet. There were other ro...
