“Experience of a Lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011

I first found Sunset Surf through Google... I had searched for the best place to learn how to surf (don't worry for those advanced surfer's... theres PLENTY of beaches all around Dominical) and Costa Rica came up, and thats when I stumbled across Sunset Surf's Website. I immediately got into contact with them, they were very friendly and informative, so it was easy choice. Sunset Surf set us up with not only their 10 day surf camp, but with all the best activities you can do around Dominical. In 10 days we learned how to surf (they truly care about what they do, and have a real passion for their sport, we had some great lessons) we horse backed in the jungle to an amazing waterfall, got set up with a great zip line tour, snorkeled, had the crazy experience of waterfall repelling, and even white water rafted. Sunset Surf also had a schedule with the local daily and nightly activities. The restaurants in Dominical have some of the best food I have had, and great hospitality. We were treated very well. There is also a strip of outdoor shopping full of neat souvenirs ;-) Overall, this was the best vacation I have ever been on, we had the best time... Truly an experience of a lifetime... We can't wait to return!! Not only do we have the amazing memories from this vacation Sunset Surf set up for us... It is the place my Fiance and I got engaged... He proposed on the beach during sunset :-)

“Great Lesson, Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

I opted for a 2 hour private lesson for 65$ and it was really worth it. Adam, my instructor for the day, holds australian surf instructor certification and has taught in Australia, and the States, and Costa Rica. I am very new to surfing, but with Adam's help I met with a great deal of success. He began with some brief dryland instruction to ensure that I could be positioned properly on the board and that I could 'pop up' with my feet landing in the right place. After that, Adam spent the whole time swimming beside me... helping me to get out past the near-shore waves, helping me get lined-up, and helping me with the proper timing for hand paddling and popping up. I think I got over 75% of my ride attempts, thanks to him.
The lesson was arranged through the hotel... the only two drawbacks were that they showed up late (phone message mishap) and Adam kept forgetting my name! (he was honest enough to ask though)
I highly recommend this surf school that also offers group classes for 45$. I think that the 65$ for personalized instruction is a better deal. Two thumbs up!

“Experience of a lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

I've enrolled at Sunset Surf Dominical twice in the last few years, April 2011 and February 2009. I had surfed a couple of times when i was younger but didn't really know what I was doing. By the second half of my first day working with Dylan, my friend Tim and I were catching wave after wave on our own. As the week progressed we continued to hone our skills. Though I'm an active skier, cyclist, and hiker, I had never experience anything as thrilling as this. Dylan is a tremendous teacher and you can't ask for a better beach side setting than Dominical. I had an incredible time during my first stay. When I found myself back in Costa Rica for a friend's wedding this past April, I got down to Dominical and as soon as possible and re-enrolled in Dylan's classes. I can't recommend a multi-day camp with Sunset Surf Dominical enough. It's nothing short of the experience of a lifetime.

“Personal touch, Positive results”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

Dylan and crew bring a full complement of experience, equipment and environment to tailor the surf adventure in Dominical to your needs. They are invaluable to my enjoyment in getting me the tune up on technique I need to get back in a groove. Instruction is filled with tips and tricks that are always seasoned with a keen sense of safety. It's a big ocean and Dylan knows how to make it a personal playground to teach in. Domilocos is a great location to launch your lessons and regroup after a day on the break. From kids to seniors, beginner to expert, Sunset Surf has something for everyone.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

I travelled to Costa Rica this past August with 2 girlfriends. I wanted a chill trip, where I ate good food, relaxed and maybe learned how to surf! I definitely got more than I bargained for!
With Sunset Surf, everything was taken care of! We stayed for a week and had surf lessons everyday! I, being slightly uncoordinated thought I was not going to pick up the sport at all! Dylan is AN AMAZING instructor….he is so patient and makes you feel so comfortable with what you are doing! I was able to stand up after day 2, and by day 5 I can actually kind of “surf.” My friends I were with picked it up a lot faster, but I was proud just to stand up! If you want to learn how to surf and have a really unique stay in Costa Rica away from all the tourists, I HIGHLY recommend to go through Dylan at Sunset Surf! You will have an amazing experience and lots of memories to bring back home!
