We took a mini trip on Thanksgiving from Scottsdale to see the wild west town of Tombstone. There were 2 side by side places to stay as we entered Tombstone. I am glad that we stopped at the 1st one - The Holiday Inn Express. I have to say I was a little apprehensive since my past experiences with this chain is that they tend to be upper end $$ wise. Was I surprised at the rate!!
Extremely reasonable at this location. The rooms were very clean, the towels were very thick and more than just one per person. The bed was comfortable and we even had a choice of firmness for the pillows. Breakfast was even included with a lot of choices in a large, very clean well maintained seating area.
The view from this location over the desert was magnificent!

We were visiting friends in Phoenix and decided to drive out to tombstone to see the reinactment of the ok corral shoot out. The hotel is fairly new and seemed to be the best choice for the area. The cleaning lady showed us 4 or 5 different rooms and she was so nice. The rooms were very nicely decorate with lovely panaramic views of the mountains. We got the king size bed and it was so comfortable. The bathroom was huge and the water pressure was just right. The breakfast was really good with a great selection. We loved this place.

We are the, “Biggs HOG Group” of North San Diego County, California.
And we booked our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Tombstone March 30 to April 2, 2007.
This is a Family run business that when you leave, you are saddened that you are leaving family behind.

I and the other 76 people with me can’t begin to tell you just how accommodating this hotel was. The staff here did everything to make our stay the most comfortable and enjoyable ever.

I am the booking coordinator for my club and I booked 40 out of the 61 rooms available. So when it comes to complaints, I would have heard them if there were any. Instead all I heard was high praise. My folks couldn’t believe just how friendly, helpful and courteous the staff was.

The rooms were spacious, immaculate and I would believe pretty well insulted for sound. Attention to detail, everything was done right. The bathroom was very large with a clean tiled floor and a very nice showerhead with plenty of hot water and pressure. The AC was more than adequate and ran very quietly. There were refrigerator in all rooms. The pool and spa area was clean and inviting.

We are a motorcycle group going out for the desert ride and the hotel provides free of charge to all our members, bottle water and trail mix for snacks. They even provided us with clean rags to wipe down our motorcycles.

If there was anything we needed, all we did was ask and it was immediately taken care of.

This hotel speaks of a Continental Breakfast and at a great many hotels that’s toast, cereal and coffee. Not this hotel, their Continental Breakfast included an assortment of cereals, French toast, all kinds of fruits, assorted yogurts, freshly baked cinnamon rolls, all types of juices and of coarse tea and coffee from 6am to 10am. That’s more than enough food to eat.

In the evening they even pop popcorn and show a movie for those folks available.

I have read other reviews on this hotel and all I can tell you is that not one of my 76 people had any problems or complaints about this hotel. I guess the only people who write about hotels are unhappy people, until now.

I am personally in debt to these folks for making me a hero with my club.

Special Thanks, Brenda, the hotel manager, Donald, the most helpful person god has ever created, and Marsha for being so kind as to put out the Continental Breakfast at 4am instead of the usually 6am so that my people could eat prior to their early departure.

If you would care to discuss any of this, please email me and I would be all too happy to explain further.

“Price Gouging......not lowest prices guaranteed!”

The Staff is excellent but at our time of stay the ownership gouged prices, cancelled reservations unbeknownst to guests hence, causing the managment to be in the middle and the brunt of guest anger. The manager Brenda, offered to contribute out of her own pocket to help with expenses which was above and beyond her job!!

Our group has stayed with this property for over 3 years now and this had to be the worst stay ever. We had reservations made a year in advance. The ownership had the reservation cancelled to reflect a higher price. The staff said the price was reflective of a price hike effective October 1st and when corporate was called, no such hike existed.

They advertised as the lowest price, but when you check around town including a Holliday Inn less than 15 miles away they are NOT the lowest price. Including places in town which are indeed walking distance to the attractions. Many other people including a group that was coming in for convention had their rates hiked with out any type of notification as well.

Besides having the price problem, our members were placed in non-smoking rooms which were nothing but converted smoking rooms with a desk placard claiming the room was a no smoking room....also one couple experienced an air-conditioner that would not shut off. We also had experienced frustration with the keys as another poster had stated. It was also frustrating when you make a reservation for all downstairs due to the amount of equiptment and are told that half group is upstairs in a facility with no elevator.

The front desk staff outside of Andrea, Donnie and Brenda need a little more training in customer service where urgency is concerned. They are way to kick back and one woman is simply ready to bite your head off. This same woman commented to one of our members...you should be glad it's only $100 and that is cheaper than anyone else is paying???? Yet they advertise they are the least expensive in town.

I have been to other hotels in and around Tombstone and would rate the Holliday Inn a 4 out of 10. But as I mentioned don't blame it on the staff.

This is a new hotel being only 3 years old, but hopefully with new management the issues will be sorted out. Either that or the Tourism and State AG will have to sort things out.

needs some TLC or an onsite manager with attention to details
We just returned from a stay in Tombstone/Bisbee and stayed one night at this hotel 09/24/06.
A late check in was honored at 9:00 PM per a prior arrangement, although an early check in was refused at 11:00 AM "We had a lot of people check out late and there are no rooms ready yet". OK we'll come back later.
The room was comfortable, clean and very spacious for two people, with the closet area being the only thing lacking as it is very short for hanging any long clothes, coats, etc. And although the view in the distance from the back of the hotel is nice, the view directly out back is horrible. Bladed desert with a huge satellite dish in the middle. A metal gazebo with no shade, and one chair. Pretty lame.
The bathroom was very large with a clean tiled floor and a very nice showerhead with plenty of hot water and pressure. The AC was more than adequate and ran very quietly.
The pool and spa area looked nice, but we did not use either.

Now for the down side(s). As of September 2006, they are PLAGUED by crickets. They are in the hallways and the rooms, with squished ones evident (I counted about 10, including the 2 I killed myself). Had they been cockroaches we would have left. Does Tombstone have an exterminator?
Upon two trips to our car to unload stuff by a side entrance close to our room, there were 15 outside, and some took full advantage to jump in the door while we were entering. Yuck. And of course, one (or more) of the travelling ones happened to make it into our room late at night. Guess what? We were serenaded all night long.

The included continental breakfast was nice with cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, tea and coffee, and freshly baked cinnamon rolls from 6-10.

One last minus... upon returning from taking bags to the car prior to checking out (at 11:45, check out is at noon), our room keys (or room lock) had been reprogrammed so that they didn't work. OK, that means a trip to the front desk, (our car was parked at the side door near our room). Front desk clerk was puzzled, "They're supposed to work until check out...", and proceeded to reprogram my key. You guessed it, it still didn't work, and neither did the other key that we had. No apology, nor explanation from the front desk. Grrrrr.
Time to leave. We won't be back.
This hotel was built in 2003, so it is still pretty new, which will tell you the overall condition. But, the owners/managers have had plenty of time for some landscaping, tidying up out back, getting the bug problem fixed, and to make sure the door keys work for your entire stay.
This hotel has the potential to be a very nice place to stay, BUT the owners need to take heed of their problems and get them fixed.
