“Most Wonderful time at the Birdcage Theater!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

I have always wanted to go through the Birdcage Theater, and this past weekend I got my chance. It was truly like stepping back in time. My husband and I were alone inside for the first 30 minutes of our 75 minute self tour. It was breathtaking and we were able to go at our leisure--looking, awing, gaping (at some things) at the sheer amount of history that is within the walls. Seeing actual things owned by names in Arizona history books brought such a flood of emotions to me it was hard to describe. My entire being was in sensory overload--the smell of history, the feel of being within those walls--the only thing that would have been beyond comprehension would have been to sit in front of the curtain and look out over the theater and all of it's contents. I HIGHLY recommend going...$10 entrance fee is beyond worth it, especially, since it's a self guide tour you can take your time and see anything and everything there is to see. Go...you WILL NOT REGRET IT!

“Wow! Amazing must see in Tombstone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Filled with treasures from Tombstones past the chief of which is the "Black Mariah" the horse drawn hearse which carried all but six bodies to boot hill. A must see for history nuts and ghost enthusiasts.

“You felt like you went back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

This is a must see...so much history, just unbelievable. A lot of old western relics, one room on the lower lever remained untouched since the 1880s, card tables, chairs, the bar- unreal. Saw the table that Doc Holiday played cards on. Bullet holes in the stage where a drunken cowboy shot at the performers.

“Wild West for sure.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

It was certainly interesting to see displays and read info about the wild times that took place in this theater. It is supposedly intact from the day it was closed, and it does look that way. There are bullets and bullet holes in walls and other places, and little curtained rooms upstairs where prostitutes entertained their clients. It's dark and dusty and well worn inside, which adds to the atmosphere--It was easy to imagine the place full of cowboys, hooligans, and showgirls. The only compliant I had is that items needed to be labeled better, with a little more info. However, if it was professionally labeled and curated like a museum, it might take away from the atmospheric charm of the place.

“As authentic as you could ask for”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

The authenticity of this place is amazing - right down to the peeling wallpaper (since they have not re-decorated - it's all original apparently) to bullet holes remaining from shootouts. It's like walking into a real western movie!

Even without the guided tour, it's worth going in and looking around and seeing some of the artifacts and history inside.

I hope this place remains looked after to keep it in as much of the original state as they can for hundreds of years to come.
