“Good option for Tempe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014 via mobile

I stayed here numerous times for business in the spring/summer 2014. It's a clean and comfortable property. The pool area is nice, and you can get a decent meal in their restaurant if you want to hide from the oppressive AZ heat. It's not gourmet food, but it's serviceable, particularly for a hotel restaurant. The bar/lounge is a cozy hangout spot to watch a game or catch up on some work. The AC units in the rooms are crazy loud. They need to invest in quieter units since turning off the A/C is not an option.

The recently re branded location is centrally located in the Tempe area, just off of Broadway and I-10. We find it handy for getting around town. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The restaurant manager even helped me obtain some of the salt and pepper shakers I was admiring!

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the front of the house.

Stayed one night here. This place is a fancy motel and should not be branded a DoubleTree. I'm been a Hilton member for years and stayed all over the world. I like DoubleTree in general, but this place was not what I'd expect. More like a nice motel, not even up to an HGI standard. No hallways, doors face outside which lets dirt and debris blow in giving even a clean room a poor look. Shower head was not bolted into the wall and hung on a pipe. Front panel to noisy below window A/C unit fell off. All in all, spend a little more and stay at a different Hilton place if you need the points. Disappointing for a Doubletree.

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly, but the rooms and the hotel at large seem very dated. The A/C was very loud and didn't do a great job of cooling the entire room and bathroom evenly since it was a wall unit on the far side of the room. The noise from the unit made it difficult to sleep, and I'm a pretty heavy sleeper. Also, the layout is a bit confusing as at first it appears there are several buildings, but each building doesn't have an elevator and are connected on the upper floors, so it's difficult to figure out which elevator to use. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't stay here again if I had another convenient option.

The only thing that kept this from receiving 5s on everything was the grounds not being as clean as I would have hoped. The room and lobby were very clean, but we saw garbage on the grounds walking to/from the room repeatedly. I know that's from lazy guests, but it was sad to not see it picked up after a few hours. Great customer service and check in/out!!!

Doubletree hotel by Hilton

The hotel was an excellent stay and it began upon arrival by the shuttle from the airport. I was greeted by the customer service representative and all my questions were answered and received a complimentary oatmeal w/ raisin cookie. The hotel has been remodeled and it was a comfortable night sleep with all the other amentities. In Arizona, it's hot and the room was set to 75 degrees and it was a cool welcome.

The bathroom was dated however it has the up to date shower head with good temperature of hot water and pressure. The tub and tile make make it look old school. Other than that, the cozy night rest was what I needed. Awesome shuttle service, just coordinate with the lobby and they will have your name for the morning to go to the airport if needed. I have posted photos for your review.

Checking in is easy and you get a warm cookie. The front desk staff is wonderful and will do whatever you need them to do. I ask them to hold some papers for me and they offered to take them to my room themselves. Great service! As with most work related conferences, participants like to relax in the bar. The bar server Martha was amazing. She put up with our antics while continuing to meet our drink and food needs. The food by the way was terrific in the bar. I cannot give as high a praise for the conference staff. Though to be fair, it was absolutely free in the conference rooms and I told someone and the temperature was brought to normal. The staff who serve the food leave a lot to be desired. They did not smile and would scold participants for having more than six people to a round table, though during events in the ballroom there were many more. The point is that the staff was not courteous about this. Nor were they accommodating to a colleague who had a nut allergy. Even after she told them, they still brought here the same dinner as everyone else. So, she did not eat. The food was not good and on more than one occasion participants had to retire back to their room to recover. Desserts were ok. If the conference is held here next year I hope there are changes in staff attitudes and in the quality of food that is served.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with the best wi fi signal. I did do this and had no issues with wi fi. Ot...
