“Reasonable choice for airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2008

I've stayed twice at this hotel this week, and have had a comfortable, pleasant experience both times. The staff were mostly friendly, albeit a bit aloof on my first check-in, but noone has been rude.

The hotel appears to be basically completed - there was some tile work being laid on the ground floor on Sunday, but all done by Wednesday.

The rooms are the new standard HP - comfortable bed, HUGE 42" LG Plasma TV, seating area and small wet bar with a fridge.

Both stays, the rooms were clean and tidy.

During sleep, I did notice that you could hear jets taking off and landing at PHX Sky Harbor, so if that would bother you, you could use the a/c to drown it out quite easily (it was pretty well muffled anyway).

The breakfast and one late night snack were fine as well, with a small but decent selection of foods. It's kinda cool that you can order from a menu screen and see your hot food appear a few minutes later!

The area around the hotel is pretty bare and industrial, but handy via car to downtown Tempe. So don't expect to be able to walk anywhere fun/to eat!

Overall, a good solid choice for the business traveler, but not so much a leisure/holiday location.

We stayed here 1 night, got up prior to breakfast time. Overall a nice stay.
The airport flight path is very close to hotel, so keeping the forced air on all night was necessary and fortunately effective for noise blocking.
The tv is excellent!!! Along w/comfortable sofa, it is the highlight of the hotel stay. There is a refrigerator and coffee maker.
Bathroom is microscopic.
Front desk just average, not too friendly.
TIP: nearby restaurant "Oregano's" is excellent for pizza -- great service and fun atmosphere.

This hotel first opened in summer 2007, I believe, so everything was brand spankin' new when we arrived. My husband and I booked the place for only one night and couldn't have asked for a better experience. At first it was a little jarring to check ourselves in (much like the machines at the airport), but the process ended up being quick and easy and we were up to our room in no time. The rooms are spacious and have a cool, swivel flat-screen TV. Bonus: I was sick and ended up sleeping on the (comfortable) pull-out sofa. It was a nice surprise to find that the room had an extra bed so I didn't have to sleep on the couch cushions. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially to business travelers as it is close to the airport and downtown Tempe and Phoenix. My only complaint would be is that it is not located near restaurants so you'll need a car to get around. There is a cafe in the lobby though, which serves food 24/7.

Property DID NOT live up to it's website! The hotel is still under construction - ladders, hoses, 'stuff', left laying around day-after-day (kind of dangerous). The 'breakfast room was a mess. Dark and dingy - not inviting, did not eat. Disappointed there was no evening food as indicated on the web-site. That is why I choose the property - it indicated the 'opening' in SUMMER '07 (it's now the FALL). My trash was not emptied daily, toilet was clogged when I checked in and never un-clogged until day 3. Floor not vacumed. Elevator was dreary too. LOVED the TV though. Easy to access the internet! Might stay again - but not until I confirm ALL is as stated. Staff never smiles.

The lobby was under construction and fully cordoned off and the check-in counter is now a little desk by the elevator. Waiting that the front-desk is a young lady to check me in. The check-in process was fast and efficient but not too friendly.

The ride on the tattered elevator and the walk in the old dimly lit hallway did not inspire much confidence. The hallway also full of cigarette odor.

The room however has been converted to the Hyatt Place look. The huge HD LCD TV is great to watch movies. There is a panel where you can hook your own DVD or Laptop output to watch it on the TV display. The sofa was comfortable and a great place to relax. The bed was extremely comfortable and as good as the Sheraton's Sweet Sleeper Bed, one of the better hotel bed that you could find. The airport runway is close to the hotel but there are good noise isolation for the room. You will worry more about the box air-condition noise then the planes.

The separate bathroom and external lavatory is a really nice touch even though the bathroom is a bit tight. The Portico bath amenities are the same as the Hyatt hotels and a nice addition to the room.

The location is good for a quick trip to the airport but is far from any restaurants. You will need the hotel shuttle to get anywhere if you don't already have a car.

This will be a good hotel once the makeover is complete, the hallway is better lit and the cigarette odor is eliminated.

Even though the hotel is in the midst of renovations to become a Hyatt Place, it was a pleasant experience. The monster flat screen TV (46 inches, I think) was almost too big to watch. Comfy beds and very little aircraft noise, even though it is right next to the landing path for PHX airport. Good hot breakfast with waffles, cheese omelets, bacon, sausage, cereal, fresh fruit, etc. For other meals however, you'll need the hotel shuttle because there is nothing within walking distance, no restaurants - no stores. Arizona State University is nearby via shuttle and has lots of good eating places on the main drag.

I stayed at this facility October 4th 2006, it has been through a renovation and will soon be known as "Hyatt Place" Overall it was pretty good.

Facility: As fore mentioned is was recently upgraded, new modern decor added. new carpets, new modern sinks and fixtures. A neat oriental style light/wall partition, nice new 42" flat plasma TV, and a big comfy contemporary sectional sofa in sitting area. No more TV in an armoire/dresser, the TV now sits on a built in wall shelf. A very small chest of drawers has been added inside the closet to store clothes. There are no more drawers in nightstands either, that's where I normally put watch. wallet, and keys at night. The only drawback to this new motif is that if staying for long stay or with family, there is very little clothes storage space.

Amenities: nice comfortable bedding, comfortable sitting area, mini fridge, hair dryer, iron, and free wifi broadband service, I got an "excellent" fast connection from my room. The breakfast is typical decent Amerisuites buffet, including fresh guest made waffles, fruit, eggs, sausage, and more. I arrived on a Wednesday night and it was Pizza night! They offered complimentary [also pretty good tasting] pizza and soft drinks. Pretty nice since I hadn't eaten all day and was too tired to freshen up and go seek an outside restaurant.

I read the comments here about being in a flight path, frankly I did not hear one plane all night. I was on the 3rd floor and my room closest to the airport. It is next door to Spring Hill Suites which at the time of this writing is the #1 rated hotel by trip advisor in Tempe AZ, I read that they get air traffic noise, but again I heard none. The staff was great. The only negative is that this hotel is not close to any shopping, restaurants, or entertainment, but a close cab ride away.

  • Liked — nice new decor, big plasma TV, comfy couch, good internet connection
  • Disliked — not conveniently located within walking distance to anything
  • Tips/Secrets — try their complimentary Wednesday night pizza catered in
