We reserved a room for one night. We wanted to stay for 2, but decided to look at the room first. It seemed OK, so we told the front desk we would stay for 2 nights. We were traveling with our 2 year old. We put her to sleep in the living room part of the room and my husband took a shower. The water was stuck on scalding hot-impossible to use and dangerous! We tried to call the front desk that night, but we couldn't get the bedroom phone to work and didn't want to wake the baby to use the living room phone. When we called the front desk the next morning, the girl said she didn't know when the shower could be fixed. The manager wasn't there and no one knows his schedule. Finally she offered to change our room. So then we moved all our stuff halfway across the property from upstairs to downstairs, without an elevator or luggage cart and dragging a screaming 2-year old. Then we left to sight-see and keep an appointment. At 11:30 the manager was finally there, but he suggested the shower could have been fixed that night and we should have called then. I said the phone didn't work, even if it did, I didn't want people coming into the room and waking up the baby. Even still, I doubt anyone would have come that late (8:30pm) because when I called in teh morning, the girl said she didn't know when anyone could come and fix it. Surely, during business hours (it was 7:30am) they could know when their maintenance worker could come, yet they couldn't and the manager actually said someone would have come that night. Or he said he could have switch our room that night. Impossible! We were totally set up, with a baby sleeping. And I had already been to the supermarket to stock up the fridge. And we forgot her night light when we did switch rooms, but no one knows what happened to it. Teh only thing the manager offered to do was give us half off our first night. That isn't good enough for the huge inconvenience, not to mention the danger of that scalding water. Plus he made it seem like it was our fault for not calling that night.

In addition, the breakfast wasn't that great. Each morning we had to inform the attendant that she was out of something. How hard is her job that she can't look and see if there are tater tots in a bin? And no coffee? Lazy!

I wouldn't stay here again if it was $1 a night.

Our last nite in AZ, getting up early for a flight. We picked this hotel based on AAA listing and Tripadvisor reviews. We were surprised when we arrived. Personally, I was concerned with the area neighborhood and businesses surrounding this hotel, along with the exterior doors of the hotel. Granted, I am not familiar with Tempe, but I tend to not stay in hotels that are near strip clubs, adult video stores and pawn shops. We were unable to find a nice chain restaurant nearby and ended up at Quinzo's and took it back to our room. We booked online for $90/nite and were upgraded to a suite upon arrival w/o requesting it. Our original room was on the front near the busy street that other reviews mentioned, so we requested another room. The clerk was very friendly and quick to change our room. However, our new room concerned me b/c of the proximity to parking and my general safety concern - also, we appeared to be only one of a few people in our building so it felt isolated. Once inside our room, we smelled old smoke and a call to the desk assured us it was a non-smoking room that simply did not have its sign. Regardless, it smelled bad. Despite all that, once we were in our room, we found it to be nice. Internet access was easy, the bed was very comfy, the shower was nice and the wake up call came as requested -- oh, at the breakfast was good. The Hampton Inn did have nice touches.... a to-go breakfast that became my lunch on the plane, complimentary newspaper, etc. I would not stay here again based solely on the location.

THIS IS FOR HAMPTON INN TEMPE 1429 N. Scottsdale Rd.

Nice hotel....pool can be crowded during certain times of the day, but besides that...great hotel. Good breakfast. Nice rooms. It says Tempe...But it is in between Tempe and Scottsdale. About 5 Miles to each downtown, maybe a little closer to Tempe.

Best price is on AAA.com

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for 3 nights, were upgraded to a Suite (maybe because of our Hilton Honors silver card?), upon check in we were given 2 free cold bottles of water (the front desk person said that the ones in our room were probably too warm by now). We really liked the room, very spacious, with a walk-in closet, nice kitchen area with microwave, refrigerator and coffee machine. Really liked the extra room provided in the shower by the curved rod. Beds and beddings were nice and confortable. The swimming pool was sparkling clean and my daughter loved it! There were fresh towels by the pool for the guests to use. The breakfast room was nice and the presonnell very attentive: one morning we were the only people left in the room and it was past their closing time and -without saying anithing- they had the curtesy to leave some cereal boxes and milk over the counter while they were cleaning because they figured my daughter might have wanted some... Excellent service!

I was looking for a hotel for a Baseball Spring training vacation. I have stayed at many hotels in the Scottsdale/Tempe area over the last 10 years. I usually spend between $120 and $200 per night with taxes. The Hampton had a "suite" available for $150 + $18 Tax per night. I was surprised at the layout of the suite. It had a real living room with solid double doors that isolated it from the bedroom. In the living room there was a large TV, small fridge, microwave and sink, a desk, a large comfy couch and chair. Plenty of lights and a separate air conditioner/heater. This was nice as my wife likes to get up very early and read while I like to sleep in.
The bed was actually more comfortable than my bed at home. The shower was great. There was also another large TV and air conditioner/ heater. We felt right at home.
The only downsides were that the bedroom window was on Scottsdale Road and sometimes noisy. Also, it was a smoking room and had a little smell. The cleaning staff ran a special "ionic cleaner" for an hour before we entered the room and it made a big improvement.

We stayed here Friday and Saturday nights, March 23 & 24, 2007.
The hotel's location was good for us as we were attending an event at the town lake. The suite was spacious and well-furnished, and the king bed was very comfortable.

However, our room (102) was located right beside Scottsdale Road, which is a very noisy street, with many motorcycles as well as other vehicles passing by. Even with earplugs I was bothered by the street noise. The hotel was full so I was unable to get another room.

The hotel offers a "hot breakfast" but both Saturday and Sunday morning there were no eggs, which I was counting on. The hot food both days was some kind of sausage, and bad-tasting waffle sticks Sunday, and French toast sticks Saturday that I didn't try. I don't like continental breakfast fare and I'm a vegetarian, so I was disappointed. However the coffee was good and there were bananas.

  • Liked — Nicely furnished suite with comfie bed
  • Disliked — Rooms on Scottsdale Rd. get a lot of street noise

We booked this hotel because it was convenient for our business stay. Later, we were happy to discover that they provided free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Upon arrival, we were somewhat concerned because the property, although apparently well maintained, seemed older and there was outside access to the rooms. We voiced this concern to the manager at the front desk, who informed us that a security officer would be on duty around the clock.

Although I think the property is a little overpriced because of this, we found it to be more than satisfactory in every other way. First of all, the doors all face the courtyards or pools, not the parking lots, which did make a difference. When we entered our king suite, I must say, we were very impressed. It was very nicely furnished, actually more like a resort than a hotel. It was very clean and had been recently updated, and there were lots of little extras: dishes, pots, pans, a fridge, microwave, extra toiletries, free internet, etc. Our room faced a pool, there are several on the property, which was also well maintained and quiet! Breakfast was very nice and included hot and cold items as well as extra beverage choices. Every employee, from the shuttle driver to the groundskeeper, was polite and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
