i stay at this particular hawthorn occasionally during the summers on business, and it's exactly what you should expect. "suites" references the room size which is ample, especially for business travellers, and especially for writers. the desk area is well lit and i can basically trash the front room with paperwork, notes, files, notebooks, and anything else i need to finish my business and not worry about it - i have an entirely seperate bedroom to retreat into.
the breakfast is average - but free - and the buffet style makes it easy to grab something on the run. as mentioned previously, the blaring tv is off-putting. but the cook is a real character.
there is one restaurant in walking distance and the one on site is not open outside of breakfast. the pool isnt any larger than the hot tub, and the maids are nothing to write home about (assuming you write home about maid service, in which case youre actually too insane to be reading this).
what you get from this hotel is value. no, you cant take your laptop to the enormous lobby, stretch out, connect to the internet, and enjoy the sites and sounds of luxury - because none of that stuff exists here. the staff takes 3 tries to answer 1 question and every room on the north side of the hotel conveniently breathes in every sound from a major freeway.
but its hard to defeat the idea of the place. cheap stay for a decent space in an ok location, complete with microwave, refridgerator, dsl hookup, fairly clean, and a stove.
