OK, let's get one thing straight, this is not a 5 star luxury hotel. If you are expecting 500 thread count sheets, thick terrycloth robes, and obsequious bellboys, this is not the place for you. If, however, you need a clean comfortable place to stay after a long day of travel, this hotel is a great economical choice.

While returning from a driving trip to California, my wife and I needed a place to stay for the night. After reading the reviews on this web site, I chose this hotel and booked a room one day in advance on the web. The staff were friendly and efficient!! It was one of the fastest check-ins I have ever experienced. After getting to our room, the front desk called to inquire if the room was satisfactory(it was). The room was not large, the 2 queen sized beds took up most of the space, with room for a microwave, refrigerator, 2 chairs and a computer desk (with complimentary high speed internet). The bath was normal size with a shower/tub combo. All were very clean!

There were half a dozen restaurants within a block or two. The hotel is older, and there is a little wear around the edges, but it is well maintained. The pool and patio area were clean and inviting, as was the lobby.

Checkout the next morning was just as efficient and painless as check-in. The complimentary breakfast was not gourmet food, but it was well stocked and there was a larger than average selection of both hot and cold items. Considering that the hotels similar neighbors charge almost twice as much for the same sized room, this is a particular bargain.

“old and gross”

My husband stayed at this place for one night. I booked it for him based on the positive reviews on Tripadvisor, which I used to trust. He categorized the property as "old and gross" and did not think I would like the bed were I traveling with him. I'm sure there are better places to stay in Tempe that are newer and in better condition.

I stayed here with my family, (wife and 14 month old son) for one night before heading off to camp in the Grand Canyon. The hotel provided us a clean and comfortable room at a good price. What more could you ask for? The staff was friendly, the free breakfast was complete. We used the hotel provided crib, and found it to be clean and safe. The fast and free internet provided in the lobby was helpful. It's definitely not a luxury hotel, and the building is a little old, but you will get your money's worth.

Initially booked for one night after flight from UK to Phoenix, found the hotel to be so nice we stayed an extra night.
Plenty of places nearby to eat.
Large, clean rooms with a good choice for breakfast (included). Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Would definitely use this hotel again.

“Pleasantly surprised”

Best Western Tempe by the Mall

We are a family (with 2 young children) needing a clean and comfortable place to sleep after traveling all day long via car and planes. We had relunctantly booked this hotel after not being able to find anything comparable to fit our budget (and refusing to pay $200/night for a Holiday Inn Express or other comparable overpriced chain in the Phoenix area during that time). We had read reviews suggesting this hotel was clean and decent, although a couple of them implied it was located in an unsafe area (bad gang neighborhood, Guadelupe, that borders the Mall area). However, after arriving there and checking in, we were very pleased. It was in a decent area with restaurants (short driving distance) nearby full of well-dressed locals dining on a weekday night. It was an easy drive from the airport - during rush hour. It was clean and comfortable. It had nice hot water and great water pressure (just what we were needing after traveling all day long). And the staff was helpful. There was even a personalized welcome letter addressed to us that was stuck inside a bag full of microwave popcorn, bottled waters, etc. waiting for us in our room when we arrived. Not a big deal, but apparent that they were trying to go out of there way to make a good impression. Also slightly above average complimentary breakfast next morning (microwave your own omelets and sausage patties, hard boiled eggs, English muffins, pastries, fresh made waffles, etc.)
In response to a few reviews we had read about it being in a bad area, we never encountered any shady characters or signs of gang activity around the hotel (and my spouse is in law enforcement and had been very concerned about that prior to our stay). We felt fine driving about to nearby restaurants after dark and felt that the car was safe in the parking lot. Maybe the area is different during the wee hours of the night or on the weekend nights or during the summer time or we just got lucky, but we felt safe and had no problems at all. We were pleased with this hotel and plan on staying there again in the future.
