“Indians were SO RUDE! But Falls are amazing!”

I say that the Indians were rude, and that is true, but don't let that keep you away from seeing these amazing falls! The village is clearly a hell hole and the people seem unfriendly and unhappy, but I was not. I smiled and said hello to everyone regardless of there stand-offish behavior. The hike to the falls in mid June was hot and dry but to get there and swim was incredible! Wear a "dry fit" shirt, dip it in the cold water, put it back on and you will be fine. PS I took a helicopter in and out the same day. Peice of cake.

Yes, its a litle funky down on the rez. Its not the National Park, so don't expect a pristine wilderness experience. But the location makes it worth everything else, including some pretty grueling hiking if you do it wrong! (Wrong is: leaving the campground to hike out in the summer at 7AM. You should leave around 3:30 or 4am to beat the heat. Also, fill up a water bottle at the last spot on the creek before you head up towards the shadeless areas and use iet to cool you body off by dousing your clothes.) One way to avoid the worst of it would be to hike in (beautiful) and helicopter out (a breeze).

Camping along the Havasu creek is lovely. Take a hammock. And be sure not to chicken out and skip climbing down the crazy steps (if you dare call them that) to the bottom of Mooney Falls. This is not to be missed! Go, and enjoy! The Havasupai people can be very friendly as well.

Entering Supai Village you immediatly realize you have entered an area not unlike a third world country. Although the falls are the most beautiful I have ever seen, it is important to know the dangers before you take this trip. Backpacker Magazine, June 2007, has a great article on the crime and hazards of this area. I traveled with 3 other women this March to the camping area at the falls. I wish I had known about the trash and crime before I had made the trip.
