We live in Sierra Vista and another friend and we met my sister and her husband at Canela a couple of weeks ago. None of us had eaten there before. They had just come from a "wine country" afternoon. We all thought our meal at Canela was absolutely wonderful. My sis and bro- in- law found a wine on the list that made them very happy. I had the pork chop and it was succulently delish! My husband had a steak dish that wasn't what he expected, but it was very very good. Our friend, who doesn't eat meat, had a stuffed chili pepper dish that was a bit scant, but very tasty. The young owners came to our table and chatted with us for a few minutes. Very pleasant! We ate in the courtyard which was very very nice. All in all, we liked it enough to go back! Sonoita is lovely drive from all directions.

Canela is located on Highway 82, right next door to Cafe Sonoita, but miles away in many respects. I enjoyed a terrific halibut filet (I usually opt for non-seafood in AZ) with a mushroom broth and my companion had a steak. Both were terrific as was the service. The chef, John Hall, also shared a small sampler of roasted quail with us. Canela has an excellent wine list as well. John and his wife, Joy, trained at the New England Culinary Academy. This is a very reasonably priced pearl of a restaurant. If the weather is nice, ask to be seated on the enclosed patio.
