I think the rudeness/brusqueness is a cultural thing. My husband stopped in to ask if they made strudel (he wanted to get some for my birthday) and the woman he spoke to was kind of abrupt and said she they usually only made strudel in winter, she didn't know what the baker was going to make, etc. He was a little put off but we went in the next day anyway and -- sure enough -- they had made a batch of the best chocolate strudel I've had in years. She recognized him and was very friendly and so were the other people working there. Every time we've been back, they've been very friendly. Even the other customers have been nice to talk to. We always get the soup of the day and it's always excellent. I love their chicken salad -- they picked the perfect bread for it. Even the iced tea is good. Prices are reasonable. Service has always been better than good, even when it's busy. It's our favorite place for lunch in Sierra Vista.
