“Hidden treasures of wildlife and mountain atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2015 NEW

This quiet, out of the way canyon is a perfect place for a casual family hike or short outing. It's a paradise for birders, with a real variety of common and not so common birds (depending on the time of year). Other animals abound. In our late April visit, three deer walked casually around us to get to better grazing, a turkey made a big fuss, several monarch butterflies explored around us, along with other moths and butterflies, and squirrels and birds galore scolded us. We enjoyed the easy hike through pines with their bright green new growth, enormous old sycamore trees, and many other varieties. The small canyon is quiet and peaceful, with a burbling stream down the middle. The visitors' center is manned with cheerful and helpful staff. However, it's closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“even with few birds, it is a good hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2015 NEW

Even as members of Nature Conservancy, entrance fee can be a discouragement....especially since other nearby canyons have similar bird sightings, & cost nothing or little. But, support of preservation is worthwhile. Go just to enjoy the cooler temps, the sound of water, & the gamble of wildlife sightings.

Great guided tour with viewings of many varieties of humming birds. Gift shop was great and reasonably priced.

Always find some great birds here. The location is beautiful. Good place for a morning hike. We try to get there early for the most birds.

“Birder's Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2015

Ramsey Canyon Preserve blew my mind. One minute you are in the desert, a few minutes later you are in the mountains with beautiful broad leaf trees and a creek flowing through. You stop at the visitors center to pay the entrance fee (It is $5 for a seven day period, or $3 if you are a Cochise County resident). There is a trail you start out on, but there are several branches that you can take.

When we pulled into the parking lot and were getting our hiking sticks out of the trunk, I looked up and there was a deer standing right there, just feet from my husband, totally unconcerned that my husband and I were there. It was amazing. Once we had paid our admission fee and gone into the preserve we saw all kinds of beautiful birds, a few squirrels, and some frogs. It was just a beautiful, peaceful trip. I look forward to going back soon.
