“Route 66”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Driving from Flagstaff to Havasupai Lodge and needed a place to stay for the night. We drove through Seligman and came upon this lodge. Owner was very friendly and shared the history of his hotel, route 66 and Seligman with us. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

Reinhardt and his small team are fantastic, sharing some of the local history as well as providing good service.. The room is spacious and clean and the themes are fun. Exactly the type of Route 66 experience we were looking for on our roadtrip.

Our family was en route back to Colorado and were planning on a stay in a chain hotel in Flagstaff, which we learned was sold out, as were most places in the area (Labor Day weekend). We quickly looked on TripAdvisor for places near where we were and found the Canyon Lodge and its many wonderful reviews. I'm happy to say they are all true. Reinhard checked us in, and when I asked about his heritage/accent, we got to know a really interesting German man and learned about the history of the very unique little town of Seligman. Reinhard is a charming and gracious host! We stayed in the James Dean room (room 18) which was clean and efficient and cozy. We learned that Hilary Swank had stayed in the same room on a recent visit as well. The beds were comfortable and the a/c worked great. The small bathroom was clean and everything worked well - even a hair dryer efficiently hanging ready to use. Our room had two double beds and one twin, which delighted our young daughter that she had her own little area. Room was equipped with coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Though the hotel was busy we never heard any other guest noise. Reinhard recommended Lilo's for dinner and, excited for a decent German-style meal, we tried it and it was quite good. Breakfast at the hotel was satisfying with good coffee, cereals, danish, and a fridge with juice and milk. The town itself is more amazing after hearing its unique Route 66 history and its play into the Disney movie "Cars." We left happy and satisfied and we will be back!

I was dubious about staying in another motel as we'd encountered some dire places on our Route 66 trip but this is the cleanest, most comfortable motel I've ever seen. The rooms are spacious, spotless & tastefully themed. Reinhard is really helpful & showed us the three king rooms he had available - we chose the Hollywood room which is decorated with pictures of film stars. It has a great location on the Main Street in Seligman & a good breakfast is included in the price. I would definitely stay here again - it's an excellent place.

We needed a place to stay fairly close to the Grand Canyon and this hotel was all we could find with vacancy at the last minute. The price was only $57 which was extremely fair considering how clean and spacious the room was. We stayed in the Marilyn Monroe room which was full of pink decor and Marilyn pics. It was cute. The bathroom and shower was small, but the room had a fridge, microwave, and a nice tv with lots of channels.
The owner is a cool guy that is very helpful. You can tell he takes pride in his motel. The breakfast in the morning is cereal, juice, oatmeal, packaged pastries, and a few pieces fruit. Just enough to hold you over till lunch time.
This hotel is right in the middle of a tourist part of Route 66. Is a very strange, funky, little part of town. Definitely worth a trip if you have a time to spare while making a trip to the Grand Canyon.

We stayed at Canyon Lodge over Labor Day week end. We stayed in Train Room on 2nd floor. It was very clean and comfortable. Loved the microwave and small fridge and so many channels on flat screen tv. We sat on balcony overlooking Main street watching trains go by and people stopping to take pics of Route 66 store across street. Very relaxing and entertaining. Mr. Reinhard is an excellent host and would most definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We loved the 2nd floor very quiet.

The Canyon Lodge is one of the cleanest motels we've ever stayed at, and with its cement block construction, has got to be the quietest in Seligman. We stayed in the Hollywood Room, nicely done up in silver for the silver screen, with large framed jigsaw puzzles of famous movie stars on the walls. The various themed rooms emphasize a tie-in with Hollywood that never really existed until recently, when Hillary Swank dropped by and stayed in the James Dean room. The owner has the photos of himself with Swank to prove it. Anyway, our room was comfortable and included a fridge and microwave for the lowest price we paid on our entire 4,000 mile journey around the Southwest. The bathroom was tiny with a shower that had to have come straight out of a small travel trailer. I told my wife I should have used the shower before dinner because I could barely squeeze in after. The only other ding was that the air-conditioner in the wall that kept the room so cool didn't seem to reach into the bathroom, so it was pretty hot in there even with the door open. The breakfast was nothing fancy, but with a decent variety of cold cereal, packaged pastries and fresh fruit, it was all we needed.

The German owner was very helpful and friendly, and switched effortlessly between English and German because the motel is popular with German tourists. The owner and his companion smoke outside, but have stiff penalties for anyone who tries it inside. The smoke from outside did not filter into our room, so we were happy. This is a small old motel with no pool and not much of a public area, so groups of friends tend to gather in the parking lot to drink and talk, but they retired early enough during our visit. One of them even came and apologized to us when they were blocking the last parking space in front of the rooms. This was also the only hotel on our trip that actually gave me the top (second) floor room I had requested everywhere. Overall, it was one of the most pleasant stays of our vacation, and by far the least expensive. If you like funky but fun Americana Route 66 kitsch, give Seligman a try.

Room Tip: The themed rooms are fun. Upstairs is quieter, but the stairs are steep.
