The location of the hotel was nicely enough situated in OAK CREEK VILLAGE (don't be mislead by the address stating it is in Sedona) you officially pass the Sedona city limits sign about 3 miles away from the hotel... making quite the 8 mile drive in and out of all of the relevant dining and shopping areas in the heart of Sedona. I will allow though that it's a gorgeous 8 mile drive, but tiresome to travel over and over during your stay.
The hotel layout is a bit odd and it takes long walks to get to and from your room/car, room/ice machine, and to the spa at all. For the spa you have to walk through the lobby, outside past a pool, across a delivery street, past another pool, through a parking lot and around a corner - not a very impressive or easy entry.
The spa was nice, but seemed to have more of a fitness theme than relaxation. In order to get lunch there, even though they had an area called inexplicably The Compass Cafe, I had to order room service (which took a half hour).
The hotel suite was spacious, clean and very nice feeling and looking. It was a bit too spacious for me - I like to be hugged by my hotel rooms, a little cozier. One MAJOR PROBLEM though was that my first floor room must've shared a wall with all the above floor plumbing. Every time the above room flushed their toilet it sounded like a tub full of water was cascading down my bedroom wall. It woke me up in the night with a start each time, thinking the ceiling was caving in with water - horrible! The room had a microwave (handy for getting frozen dinners instead of spending money on room service - which cost 2.50 plus an included 19% tip...), mini-bar, gas fireplace (which didn't work while I was there despite two maintenance attempts to fix it and made the room smell gassy), a wonderful little patio (although my neighbors smoked, smoke-free rooms yes - with ashtrays on the patios...), adequate bathtub (with a faucet that dripped constantly unfortunately) - but it didn't have a c.d. player which was unusual for the star-level, based on my previous trips, and the hotel didn't rent DVD players or VCRs which for a family (or me) would be quite helpful. The Pay-per-view movies (just regular top 10 movies) were $12.99 each - ouch, no thanks!
It was a nice stay, but I've had more enjoyable rooms at the Wyndham, Sheraton, and Hyatt. I would recommend this hotel for a business event or conference, but not for a leisure traveler or tourist wanting to experience and enjoy Sedona, Arizona.
