We often stay in Super 8's when we do our American road trips, so I was really pleased when I found out that there was a Super 8 in my most favourite American destination. We had intended to stay 3 nights at this hotel but gave up after one and moved on to the Matterhorn in Sedona instead.
The hotel was about 3 miles out of town and unless your driving this hotel is not the best placed. Nor is it that cheap given it's location. When we pulled up the hotel looked pleasent enough.
If you haven't stayed at a Super 8 before, the best British way that I can explain them is similar to a Premier Inn or Travel Lodge. Clean, reliable and standard. This hotel looked like all of this from the outside.
On entering our building block, there was a musty smell in the corridor. Our room was cleanish (linen, carpet and facilities clean. Walls dirty and marked, furniture on its last legs). Overall the inside block was very tired and dated, making the stay unpleasent.
Super 8 has an 8 point promise, number 1 on the list is highspeed, in room internet - we didn't get this, we along with other guests complained about this and were told to try and get service in the breakfast hall, which we did and got a very weak signal. On asking what happens if you haven't fulfilled your promise, the lady at the desk looked vacantly at me and said 'I don't know'.....What is the point of having a promise if there's no recourse?
The sound proofing is also not great, this Super 8 is pet friendly, one of the rooms in the block had a barking dog way into the early hours, which was disruptive.
In the morning we decided to use the internet to find a better hotel. We found the Matterhorn a little more pricey by about $20, but was town centre, has great views and definetely luxurious.
I would not recommend staying at the super 8 when you could be treated like a king 3 miles down the road!
