My wife and two kids (1 and 4 years olds) took a road trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona. For the one evening we stayed in Sedona we ended up at the King's Ransom. Here are my thoughts:

POSITIVES:

1. Location: This is located right in the heart of Sedona and within walking distance of many of the awesome galleries (including the very cool collection of shops called Tlaquepaque.

2. Breakfast: A free continental breakfast is included with the price of the room. The breakfast had a nice selection of fruits, cereals, yogarts and patries. The cafeteria was nice and clean and had wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. An enjoyable place to start off the day.

3. Pool: The pool area was very nice (see picture).

NEUTRALS/NEGATIVES:

1. Room: This hotel is more like a motel with the ability to drive up and park right outside the door of your room. Our room was large and looked over the pool area but the furnishings were on the old side and cheap. The TV in the room was small. The bathroom needed some work, however, the shower had great water pressure. The room we stayed in could definately use have used some touch up (paint, moulding, etc.)

2. Price: I paid $130 directly through the hotel and this seemed reasonable given the prices of other lodging in the area.

3. Lobby: Very motel-ish and while the staff people were friendly they were not particularly helpful and getting information about the surrounding area.

“Good location, not a high-end property”

We were looking for a reasonably-priced smallish hotel in Sedona, and the Kings Ransom looked good on-line and had decent reviews on Trip Advisor.
The location was very convenient, although there was construction right out front on Rte. 179 (not the fault of the hotel, I realize!)
We had reserved a second floor "trail head" room, located at the rear of the property. The reservation was made about 3 months in advance of our stay. We did get the trail head room but not on the second floor. (Not a deal-breaker for us but we had hoped to have a better view.)
The room was large for a motel room, and the king bed was comfortable. There was a spa tub, and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. We had a patio with a view of the parking lot next door, but if we turned our heads we had a lovely view of the red rocks. Housekeeping was good and we always had plenty of towels, etc.
Our main problem with the room was that the building seems to be "old-style" construction with no sound-proofing. Every time the upstairs or next-door neighbors used any water (shower, toilet or even sink) or walked across their room, we heard it. At 2 am this was not enjoyable. It wasn't loud partying, it was just normal usage of the rooms, but we could hear everything.
The pool was nice, and the hot tub was huge. The restaurant on the property, Cafe Elote, had a limited menu but the food was outstanding--highly recommended.
If you are not looking for luxury and don't mind the noise from the other rooms, this motel is a good choice.

We were totally happy with our room here at the hotel. It is centrally located just off the busy section of town. Sedona is such a beautiful place you really wont spend much time in any room anywhere. Stay outside and enjoy the views, shopping , dining, tours and such. Our room had air conditioning, coffee maker, cold refridgerator, tv and pretty comfortable beds. Its cool during the day in the shade so take a light wrap where ever you go. We took the Sedona Trolley Tours and saw everything around the town. The information and two hour tour is well worth the $20.00 per person. Our 17 year old loved Sedona and the pool and spa here. We ate at Elote here in the hotel and the food was well worth the wait. This is a small town with mostly tourisits and they move at their pace not ours, once you get used to that, slow down and enjoy where you are. We took the Grand Canyon railroad to the GC our second day and WOW what a day. Came back to Sedona and had a late supper . Our third and last day we went to Out of Africa about 20 min. drive from Sedona. This place is a must see. It is a wild animal park, the place is well kept by many dedicated people who interact with the animals and the animals just love them. They take you on a Safari through the place then let you walk around and take in the sights. They have shows like Tiger Splash which was a lot of fun. We spent about 4-5 hours here then went back to Sedona to the Tlaquepaque Village for lunch at Oak Creek Brewery. We had some great pizza there. We took our son back to the hotel and we went back to browse the shops and gallerys. Had a margarita and some chips and went back to the hotel. We would stay here again and we will go back to Sedona soon as we did not get to see everything we wanted. This was a great 3 day vacation.

This is a typical motel--think Days Inn or Super 8, but with a pool. We booked a "view room" on their website and our view was mainly of the motel's courtyard (containing the pool). You could see some red rocks in the distance. They might have rooms with better views-I'd recommend talking to a human and asking them some tough questions if the view is important to you. The motel is on a busy strip of road, but it's set back enough that traffic noise isn't a problem. You can walk to a few shops & restaurants easily. To get to the main Sedona strip you'd probably want to drive.

The breakfast left a lot to be desired...they ran out of a lot of things and weren't quick to replace them. Including the coffee! We waited a good ten minutes or so for coffee one morning....egads...

“Horrible Service & Stay”

After paying nearly $200 for our room we discovered they did not have air conditioning, we were told to open the windows (on the ground level) that opened to a high traffic area between two of the buildings.

We requested a fan, and were told one would be brought up. Over an hour and a half later and four phone calls to the desk we were finally brought a fan by a maintenance man who simply pushed open our slightly proped open door (for ventilation) and walked in, set it down, and said "there it is" as he was leaving.

I complained that we were not comfortable in a 85 degree room, and not comfortable leaving the windows on the ground floor room open when we have a 5 year old child with us. We were infomred this was our only choice.

We checked out the next morning, with complaint, and were offered no consolation.

Shortly after checkout we discovered we could not find a pair of prescription sunglasses. We went to the desk & asked that we would like to have them sent to us if there were found. The girl at the desk made no inclination we were heard. After a few moments we repeated the statement. She then looked at us, and said "I heard you" without asking our room number, name, or contact information.

I have NEVER had such poor service in a hotel. Not even in the low budget hotels where we have stayed in the past.
