The hotel was very rundown and out dated the carpet in the rooms was very dirty. The furniture was very worn and not comfortable! The "hotel" resembled a apartment complex made up of a bunch of small buildings. Had booked two night stay but only stayed one night. Would not have stayed in the room if we had arrived earlier in the night.

Full disclosure; we stayed here for free on a friends unused timeshare alottment. If I had spent $200-$300 a night, I would probably be more critical.

The Good:
They Really do have everything on site. Full service spa, fitness facilities, heated pools and jacuzzi's, sport courts, mini'golf, and a creekside park.

We enjoyed the restauarants and bars that were on site as well. The food was good and the prices were reasonable.

The location was excellent as well. I would call it mid-town Sedona.

The Neutral: The accomodations were roomy, but somewhat dated and plain. We did not have heat the first night, but the problem was corrected when we called the front desk. Dated and plain could probably describe the look of the entire resort. (the exception being the restaurant areas) The same developer built many properties in the PHX area in the 80's and used the same (at that time trendy) designs in all of them.

The Bad: Parking. After about 7pm parking was at an extreme premium. Many of the spots are parallel spots as well. We had to park an extreme distance from our room the first night, then moved our car the following morning and never moved it again.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. I would say this is a typical timeshare property. They have everything you would need, just not with the elegance or opulance that you would find at similair nightly properties.

Just spent a relaxing week offseason to avoid increasing Sedona near gridlock. Some reviews reflect a lot of disappointment. Well, it held up better for me than some that expected a genuine four star resort. This is mature property. Grounds are maintained to a high level - the units, less so.

We received nothing but fine treatment & attitude from all staff. We enjoyed the wood fired pizzas, but found Joeys Bistro too rich for our blood.

OK, on to the unit itself. Our ground floor unit was comfortable in general. The beds were superior. Hot water was of high pressure & plenty of heat. The ample size curtains with room darkening panels were in excellent condition. The provided toiletries are deluxe.

The cons: We clearly witnessed every footstep from the above unit. The foldout couch was broken down & the most uncomfortable couch I've ever encountered. What a downer exception to otherwise comfort. TV reception is apparently by some kind of satellite distribution - & bandwidth is sketchy. Plenty of channels but reception sometimes comes & goes.

This occupies an unexcelled site in this most drop dead gorgeous place. Immediately adjacent to Tlaquapake can't be beat for convenience.

“Mixed experience”

Los Abrigados Resort and Spa

We recently returned from Sedona and a stay at Los Abrigados. We traded our Florida Marriott time share to stay there. It was definitely not as nice as our own time share. The first unit we were given only had sleeping for 4 but we had reserved a unit to accommodate six. We were then moved to another unit with an additional bed but it was one that had not been renovated so our "kitchen" consisted of a mini-frig, a toaster oven and a microwave. The sofabed was so uncomfortable that we actually removed the mattress and slept on the floor. We were very disappointed and complained at the front desk. They were able to move us to a renovated room that slept 6 after two nights. It was much better but was still not what I would call "plush". Another negative was the lack of parking. The resort is a maze of buildings, and parking near your unit can be very difficult if you come home after dark.

The positives of the resort were the many amenities such as the pool, tennis, mini putt, the wonderful spa and fitness facility, the two restaurants (both were delicious) and the proximity to the really pretty and unique shopping village of Tlaquepaque. All in all we had a nice time there but would probably choose another hotel if we returned to the area in the future.

Sedona is an awesome place to visit- no doubt about that fact! There are many lovely properties throughout Sedona that take advantage of the beauty of the landscape.

Keeping to the experience of Los Abrigados Resort I would have to say, if I wasn't staying as a time share, I would most likely find a real 4 star hotel. As a time share goes, it has a very nice atmosphere. I even saw a singing star out and about with her dog- she was staying in the exclusive pricey part of the property.

My visit started off badly- the Resort, even though we had called to confirm the reservation, didn't have the room promised to us.
We had specific needs, such as a room with no, or few, steps and two beds. We ended up with neither, as promised. The room we did get smelled of urine. It was awful. I laid out all the towels down on the floor so I wouldn't have to walk on it. It was cleaned the next day so it was better after that. They only clean so often with the time shares. We were only in the room to sleep and at least it was quiet and the pull out sofa I got was comfortable enough and the sheets clean.

The front desk staff were so apathetic it was appalling. The concierge was on the snooty side as well. I was trying to find out about the restaurant on the creek I had heard about- L'auberge Restaurant as it turned out (which was a wonderful brunch the next day) and she looked at me like I was from another planet. She finally pulled out a map and begrudgingly showed me where it was. So, as first impressions go- it wasn't great.

We ate at both restaurants on site. The food was very good at each. Do make a reservation if you plan to eat at Joey's on a Tuesday night as they are packed due to "all you can eat" night. Don't plan on all you can eat though- they do not like to bring you more than one plate. Not kidding. Even the hostess told me I would have to be firm in order to get more than one sampling.
There are no drink specials, or happy hour, in the bar. I found that strange. The barmaid told me they had discontinued having any specials.

The location on the creek was lovely. The access to the spa was nice, as the sauna and steam room are included in the stay. I took advantage of a water aerobics class one morning in the main pool. I found the outdoor jetted tub was much too hot to sit in though, and that was disappointing after a long day of sightseeing.

All in all- the stay was not perfect, but could have been much worse. I think all the reviews combined here at TripAdvisor have captured the Los Abrigados time share experience.
