We booked quite a few rooms for our family to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. Although I gave the reason for the visit, it was never noted by the hotel staff in any way. I was not looking for some cheesy freebie of some kind but an appropriate greeting to my mother on check-in should have been tendered by the front desk staff, since I mentioned this to them myself when I made all the reservations.
We are all pretty experienced travelers and while not hard to please are aware of what the spectrum of hotels and resorts includes.
The Enchantment fails on many levels: Value for money, basic cleanliness, quality of rooms and furnishings, food/beverage options, customer service by staff.
Yes, Boynton Canyon is very beautiful but you can easily drive in and spend the day for free and repair to much nicer lodgings/food at any point in the day.
Check in was ridiculous. Nicer greeting at a Best Western. In fact, a greeting at all would have been appreciated. The first response we saw of staff to guests was a stare with raised eyebrow. Apparently this resort is staffed by people who feel that working is somehow beneath them. This resort should really be called "The Baditude-ment." It must come on down from management because the staff we came in contact with (we did not use the spa, should say that) from the front desk to the food serves was similarly horrifying.
The furnishings were beyond ridiculous, probably 25 years old at least, maybe recovered at the 10-year point. Chairs that were rickety and falling apart, inadequate lamps with burned out bulbs, musty towels, linens that were questionable at best. There is no excuse for this and especially at these prices.
The Enchantment had better step it up or in this economy, it'll be on its RearEndMent.
Yes, go to Sedona, and yes go to Boynton Canyon but do yourself a favor and skip this place, there are nicer places in and around Sedona.
