I travel to Arizona a great deal for my work and usually stay in high-end hotels and resorts in Phoenix. Check out my reviews and you'll see that some of them are pretty bad.

I was therefore very pleased with the Desert Quail in Sedona, where I spent three mid-winter nights while visiting friends and taking photographs of the glorious rock formations..

From check in to check out everything was just fine. Everything worked in my room, which was nicely cleaned and provisioned. The room was large and pleasant and the apples in the fridge made for a nice start of the day. Though there is no wireless internet in rooms, there is a computer for guests in the reception area and local dial in connections from my room worked perfectly.

This is my second overnight visit to Sedona. Last time there I stayed at the nearby La Quinta, which was ok and had wireless, but cost more and required I take a very long hike to my room.

The Desert Quail is by no means a resort hotel (it does have decent enough pool, closed in winter) but it is easy to reach from I-17 and away from some of the Sedona traffic and new age madness.

This is a 2 diamond property for good reason. The staff is the best part ~~~ very nice. If you're looking for a place that has a lot to offer then this is NOT the place. The pool is nice but that is all there is to offer. I would not reccomment this motel if you're looking to visit Sedona ~~~ much to far from town and activities. Once the road construction gets done it will help but still not give you the Sedona feel.

“Not Bad for a 2-star Hotel”

Let me preface this review by saying that the Desert Quail is a 2 star hotel. If you are looking for a 4 star experience do not stay here. As long as you keep this in mind, I don't think you will be disappointed in what they have to offer. I would equate the Desert Quail to an older Hampton Inn.

The Positives:

The rooms had older furniture, but all was in good condition. The rooms also had a refrigerator and one of those single cup coffee makers which I always like.
The linens were clean and of decent quality, the room was also very clean.
Inexpensive rooms for what tends to be a very expensive area.

The Negatives:

The walls are thin and on top of being able to hear your neighbors you can also hear some road noise.
The A/C unit was really loud. The upside to that is that it helped drown out the road noise, but if you are a light sleeper it could be an issue.

We just got back from a Easter holiday vacation and stayed at the Desert Quail Inn. The staff was friendly and the rooms are clean and decorated nicely. Our only complaint was the construction work on the road. We expected feel the vortex and energy vibes, but didn't..perhaps the construction ruined it.

During our recent trip to Sedona, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas we stayed in many hotels. The Desert Quail Inn, while affordable for the Sedona area, wasn't quite what was described. Upon check-in we were told we were going into one of the newly renovated rooms. When we entered the room, we tried to hard to determine what had been renovated, as it had the look of any other low/mid-end hotel. The bed was very comfortable, so that may have been new (?). The internet site listed the room with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot, our room was minus the microwave. There was no breakfast on the premises, but the hotel had put a complimentary fruit basket in the frig (two apples and two oranges).
On the plus side, it was quiet and we enjoyed sitting out on the front balcony in the evenings. There was an internet cafe just behind the hotel, although neither the front clerk nor the in-room information mentioned it. The restaurant across the street, which required a bit of work to locate in the shopping plaza, was very good. Which leaves us with an overall average impression.
