“Ultimite Sedona Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2010

We were privileged to spend our 25th Anniversary at Sedona Cathedral Hideaway. The owners, Kathy and Larry Jaeckel, go above and beyond to create the setting for the ultimate Sedona experience. Our suite was beautiful...there was no detail overlooked. The room gave a magnificent view of Cathedral rock, which is a brief 5 minute walk away. Breakfasts are an experience in themselves...Larry will prepare whatever you desire, and in a way, even you couldn't imagine could be so good! There is a full range of suggestions, in case you cannot decide. Kathy's 25 years of expertise on the area offers a wealth of information, from dining, hiking trails, leisure activities, vortices, and even a good place to park! While you are there, take advantage of a massage under the stars...an experience you won't forget. I cannot recommend SCH highly enough, I just ask that you don't book up ALL of August next year, as we plan on returning ;)

My husband and I stayed at the Cathedral Hideaway at Christmastime. It was truly a memorable stay. Our hosts were perfect in everyway: providing us with a great breakfast each day, giving us advice about what to see in town and how to get there, as well as providing a good balance of privacy and conversation. Every detail of the rooms have been carefully planned. The tub and shower in the bathroom were second only to the wonderful views from our room. Our stay was not long enough. We repeatedly ask each other "how long until we can go back to Sedona?" There is something very peaceful and magical about Sedona, and the Cathedral Hideaway compliments that atmosphere very nicely.

If after reading all the reviews on this place you aren't making your booking, then there's not much else i can say to persuade you! Due to a change in our travel plans we were able to spend an extra night and i am so happy that we did. The location is superb with wonderful views of the amazing scenery, popular sights are within easy reach, and the ambience is just so well suited to relaxation. The hosts are gracious and very happy to share their knowledge of the area and attractions with you. They are obviously very proud not just of their accomodation but Sedona and its heritage.

Like other reviewers, breakfaast is a highlight - if you want it, they will certainly make it for you. And if you are lucky, Larry might pull some strings and surprise you with local entertainment which is sure to put a smile on your face.

As we told our hosts, we've been to places around the world that tell you to treat their home as if it's yours yet fail to deliver fully on that statement. We did feel as though we were free to enjoy their home which is exactly what we hoped for. All in all, a lovely stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

My wife and I decided to take a "minimoon" after we were married, so we drove out to Sedona from California for a long weekend. Our car had troubles just before we got there, but we were able to make it the entire way. Larry and Kathy graciously offered to shuttle us wherever we wanted to go during our weekend while the car was in the shop. They also went for a morning walk with us to show us the various trail locations, and were extremely open and accommodating at the B&B itself. We also left a book of CDs there that they fedexed back to us after we left. Thanks Larry and Kathy!

The rooms are to die for: incredible views, beds so comfy you'll have to drag yourself out of them, and incredibly customizable considering all the electronics they have installed (sleep number beds, climate controls, towel warmers, honestly, the list goes on and on).

Sedona is incredible, of course. If you go in the summer though make sure you get up really early to see the sunrise and go for any hikes before the sun gets high overhead: it can get pretty hot and the animals are mostly active in the early morning. Though the deck at the B&B is always SWARMING with hummingbirds, which makes for some great dinner entertainment. And Larry and Kathy always have an assortment of homemade ice creams for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (my wife was especially appreciative of this!).

I'd highly recommend Cathedral Hideaway, it is well worth the money (actually it's worth more). We had a wonderful time despite the car troubles, and Larry and Kathy did an incredible job helping to make it a memorable and special trip.

We looked for our review we'd sent in last year, and didn't find it; maybe/probably I screwed it up!

Anyway, my wife and I have stayed in many B&B's, both in the States and in the Far East, over the past 30 years. We think that you won't find better hosts anywhere.... Sedona is a great spot to visit. K &L can direct/advise you where to visit, and how to make the most of your stay.

We liked it so much we wound up buying a home there.

This truly is a wonderful place for all of the reasons that other reviewers have outlined, all of which are totally accurate. Kathy and Larry have defined a new type of travel experience which I would call " Luxury Private Accommodation". Bed and Breakfast is a totally different
category in my mind. The architecture of the building is incredibly harmonious with 10 foot ceilings which appear taller and fanatical attention to detail in every aspect of the environment. The restrictions of taking an existing building and trying to convert it to a small hotel or B&B have been eliminated by designing for guests from the ground up.
Kathy and Larry both have an uncanny sense of when the guests want to interact with them and when the guests would prefer privacy.
Kathy and Larry have a wealth of information about the Sedona area which is extremely helpful.
This really is a special place.

Sedona Cathedral Hideaway stands alone because of its exceptional hosts. Kathy & Larry provide an experience, a hospitality unprecedented in a B&B. It is a destination in itself, a place we look forward to returning to again and again.
