“Rough road but worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

We visited this Sedona attraction one morning during our visit. A lot of different historical eras are represented in the drawings and dwellings in this naturally protected living area. Drawings have been dated from 8,000 BC to modern graffiti. You must travel over a rough dirt road to see this but it is worth seeing

“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Seven miles of rocky dirt road to get there, we had a small SUV and didn't have any problems. The first hike to the ruins for me was a little difficult. I almost didn't go to the second section where the pictographs were but found out it was a much easier hike. So glad I did, very interesting and easy to navigate.

“Worth the seven miles of bad road!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

The drive to Palatki is seven miles of rocky, pitted dirt road. It was a little hairy in our rental car, but we had been assured we could do it without bottoming out the car. (We didn't go on to Honanki, because we were told that road isn't doable without an SUV or truck.) It was well worth the drive, although you can't get up close to the sight and the main part of the cliff dwelling is obscured by a big tree. The petroglyphs were the highlight of the tour. You just can't believe what you're looking at! The rangers were helpful and informative. At the ranger station, you even get to watch hummingbirds at a feeder. I've seen hummingbirds before, but not eight or ten at a pop! We happened on the site on a day celebrating Smokey the Bear, so we were even served birthday cake. We meant to visit the more extensive Indian cliff dwellings at Montezuma's Castle in the same general area, but it was August and blisteringly hot, so in the end we contented ourselves with this visit. There is no entrance fee if you have a Red Rock Pass, which lets you explore heritage sites for only $5/day or $15/week per car.

“Interesting Ruins and Pictographs”

Great place to visit. Helpful ranger volunteers around to give informations and look after the site. Very understandable that those sights have to be kept under protection of vandalism.

“Great Indian ruins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Palatki and Honanki Heritage Sites were great. Short walks right up to the ruins. The road getting there was horrible, but so worth it. After doing the ruins there are a lot of really nice hikes along Boynton Pass Road.
