“Late Review but Outstanding Resort”

Fairfield Sedona Resort

Booked through our timeshare points with Fairfield, this was a short stay but memorable! What a beautiful area and the resort was definitely 5-star, unlike so many others that RCI lists as 5 star.

I just became aware of tripadvisor.com and it has helped me tremendously with this year's vacations, so I thought I'd go back and at least make notes on the ones we've visited in the last few years.

The suite, a 2 BR deluxe, was incredibly spacious and luxurious. I can't say enough good things about Fairfield resorts! They are absolutely the best.

Sedona is gorgeous. It is definitely not your "typical" touristy area... in that it's not all t-shirts at souvenier shops. The art here is stunning and unusual, and the location/scenery of the red rocks and streams is inspiring.

We had a 1 bedroom unit on the second floor. It was very quiet and spacious enough for the two of us. Some had complained of the small sink not being big enough to wash a dinner plate. You didn't need the sink to wash the plates-there was a dishwasher. Yes the sink was small but it was adaquate for us. I cooked 3 dinners in our 6 night stay and had no problems doing so.

We went to the Blazin M Ranch dinner and show and had a very enjoyable time. We had lunch one day at Pizza Picazzo. Their pizza is WONDERFUL. Also, the Coffee Pot Resturant is great for Breakfast (101 Omlets), the perfet place for breakfast on our last day. The Mexican Resturant downtown that started with an OX----- wasn't that good, overpriced and very slow service.

We went to many of the Native American Ruins while we were there. They were very interesting. If you have a Golden Eagle Pass from the National Parks you can use that instead of the Red Rock Pass for parking and enterance to the ruins.

The activities at the resort were also fun. We never used the pool, we were too busy going places during the day and at night the wind came up and it seemed too cool to swim.

We will go again to this resort.

Wonderful stay. My husband and I stayed with 2 teen daughters and fun was had by all. The place caters to families. The facilities are clean and updated. The views of the rocks in Sedona were nice in the morning. We really felt 'at home' during our stay here. The amenities are comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed the pool and sauna as well. It was close by to everything that this small quaint town had to offer.

We were in Sedona the end of March and found the Fairfield Sedona a very nice place to stay. We rented a two bedroom condo and the views were amazing! We had plenty of space, a weekly cleaning service, washer/dryer in the unit just off the kitchen, plenty of closet space, and a full kitchen. Fairfield does not have elevators and the stairs were not that much of a problem as the views are worth climbing the stairs. The grounds are very well taken care of and Sedona is easy to navigate around in a car or SUV. Sedona is close to other cities such as Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, the small ghost town of Jerome, Flagstaff, and Prescott.

Ask for Donna at the concierge desk as she was really helpful and cares for the Fairfield customers. She tries to make the stay at Fairfield fun and works to make your stay relaxing and fun.

Other places we recommend are:

[--] Verde Canyon Railroad trip near the ghost town of Jerome. Sit on the right hand side in first class facing the engine for best seats. The table seats are the best to sit at to see the full view of the canyon area. Get tickets ahead of time to save on standing in line. The gift shop there is very nice and you can eat there for a chuckwagon meal or something lighter.

[--] Grand Canyon Skywalk - better to get tickets ahead of time to avoid standing in line. When traveling to the Skywalk from Sedona, the directions on the website forget to tell you which way to turn after getting to Stockton. Make sure you turn to the right and go through Stockton past Walmart and Subway. It took us about 5 hours to drive from Sedona one way. The dirt road extends about 14 miles but takes you about an hour one way to get to a paved road that takes you to the Skywalk terminal. While on the dirt road, go straight at the ranch instead of turning into the ranch lodging area.

[--]

Two great drives that can be done in a car are the Airport road and Schnebly Hill Road: A good way to get a view of Sedona from within a short distance of the center is to walk or drive a mile or two up Schnebly Hill Road, which meets AZ 179 just south of the US 89A junction. The best time to do the airport road is just before sunset and will only take 10 minutes to get there.

[--]

The Chapel of the Holy Cross on 780 Chapel road was designed by a Frank Lloyd student, Marguerite Brunswig Staude and the chapel was built in 1956. It rises 200 feet from the ground with two large red rock formations.

Jerome, Arizona is not all that much to see. It is a glorified ghost town in the mountains near Sedona. It had around 50,000 people that lived there in its hay day. However, it now houses less than a 1000 hippies and is run down quite a bit. It is more of a drive through then stop and visit place. It does have some quaint cowboy buildings with narrow switch back streets.

We rented a Chrysler Pacifica and it was really nice to have a SUV with good gas mileage as we really drove a lot around the area to see things of interest. Sedona is a place that you can hike many scenic trails, however, traveling around the area in remote places is nice if you have a vehicle that has decent ground clearance. The car company we used was Advantage Car Rental.

There are many good restaurants in the area. We recommend you ask your concierge to ask for the best restaurants without having to pay a high price for a family meal.

Many nice shopping boutiques and you will find the nearest Wal-Mart at Cottonwood, Arizona about 10 min. west of Sedona.

Fairfield Sedona is a fine resort right off the main highway in West Sedona. The staff responded to all our issues promptly. This time of year, Sedona is not going to be a small child or family resort, but mainly couples or small groups. While Grand Canyon makes a great mid-week trip (allow at least one overnight there), the shops, galleries, restaurants and all the hiking trails will keep you busy without duplication. The resort has pool and hot tub, but no tennis or playground. Other resorts would be better if you want easy golf access. We baby-sat two infant grandchildren, and quickly learned where the city parks were, to make daily trips there with them. (Tennis is available there) This time of year is really perfect, with daytime warm, but not hot, sun, and evening/nighttime cool but not chill. I am told that mid-June through mid-September are pretty hot, but we found last January in Sedona to also be tolerable (we reside in Kansas). I would be glad to stay at the Fairfield again, but there are enough other other timeshares in Sedona that I'd like to try them out, as we will again in a year.
