“Unique Upscale (Yet Dog-friendly) Updated Hotel & Spa in Convenient Uptown Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

I booked this hotel sight-unseen for a one-night stay in Sedona. Availability was limited but we did get a ground floor king room that was comfortable and up-to-date.
Cons: For two women, I was disappointed that they put us in an accessible room which had no bathroom counter space, and only one luggage stand, and no free wi-fi unless you were a Kimpton Karma rewards member. It would have also been nice to have an in-room coffee maker, although one could get coffee from the lobby for free starting at 5:30 am. I wasn't aware we were going to get charged an additional $25+ tax for a "resort fee", which included valet parking and access to a free yoga class.

Pros: Fortunately, we had time to take advantage of the free yoga class with Cathleen, and it was wonderful. We didn't need to get the car out again until we checked out because it was within walking distance to lots of nice shops and a variety of restaurants/bars. Another perk of the hotel was a free wine hour with an appetizer in their large outdoor courtyard overlooking a lovely infinity-edge pool and hot tub, plus a great view up to the red rocks. It was easy to strike up conversations with other guests about what to do in the area.

If it weren't for the few cons, I would have rated it Excellent.

Greetings Ava W,
I agree the Amara is definitely unique and yes we are a pet friendly resort. We are a Kimpton property which means that we welcome all guests, have a little flare, and want everyone to have an amazing experience, all while having a ton of fun. I appreciate you sharing that folks should join Kimpton Karma rewards, “good things come to those who stay. “ Some of the perks of staying a Kimpton are the complimentary coffee daily in the lobby from 5:30a-9p (we can always send a coffee maker up to your room upon request) and nightly wine hour either in the lobby or courtyard area depending on the weather. Wine hour is a favorite amongst guests and employees alike because of the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and ensure everyone is enjoying Sedona. The daily resort fee includes valet parking, daily yoga classes (so glad you took part-Cathleen is an incredible instructor), access to the steam and relaxation rooms at the spa, as well as shuttle service within a mile of the property.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience regarding your recent visit. We look forward to your next trip.
Warm regards,
Patrick Gaskin

My husband and I spent 4 nights here and had a delightful stay. The property is nicely appointed, our room was spacious, and the whirlpool tub a plus after hiking. We enjoyed the complementary wine /light snack served on the patio, as well as the fire pits in the cool evenings. The complimentary coffee/hot chocolate was also appreciated as we headed out in the morning. The pool, patio area is not terribly large, but adequate. My only complaint about the pool area is the oversize bean bag type lounges are a little awkward to use. The fresh ice water and bar service at the pool were appreciated. We also had 2 delicious dinners sitting outside, I was hesitant to try the restaurant due to mixed reviews, but we were very pleased. The location along Oak Creek is a plus, as well as central to uptown Sedona. Staff was very friendly, and room service removal a little slow, but about the same as many nice hotels we have stayed at. Overall, we were impressed and comfortable, and would stay again.

One of the favorite things I love hearing is that “we will be back or we can’t wait to come back”. We loved having and we can’t wait to have you back. Chef Massimo is thrilled to hear your dining experiences were top notch. Thank you for noticing the small touches throughout the property. Until next time…

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. The room we had was a corner room suite with 3 balconies. The room was huge! The bathroom was very large with a jacuzzi tub for two. Plus we also had a half bath. Talk about space. The only thing was that the bed was a little too soft and could be changed out. Woke a few days with back aches. The hotel was very quiet and had a very nice outdoor set up. The hotel is located right in the center of Sedona and it was so easy to get around. Join Kimpton and the Wi fi is free.

Greetings snchip,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. The corner suite is a certainly a favorite with the amazing views and multiple balconies to enjoy the sunrise or sunsets. The location is ideal, close enough to the uptown shops and restaurants but far enough away that you get the peace and quiet with amazing views. Sorry that the beds were a bit too soft for your liking. New mattresses were part of the renovation that occurred last May but we can always add a bed board to make it a little firmer upon request. Thank you for spending your vacation with us.

My boyfriend and I are locals and we decided to use our Restaurant.com coupon at the SaltRock Restaurant at this hotel. The experience at the restaurant was fine but the reason I felt compelled to write a review was because of the valet guys. Reagen, Brian and Joseph were "on duty" and boy did they make us feel welcome! Not only were they smiling the entire time, they made eye contact, greeted us warmly, held the door open and were sincere about their service the entire time. As we left, they were just a courteous and friendly in their goodbyes. I will remember our visit because of them! Thanks fellas!

Very nice property! Really enjoyed our stay here. There are many options when staying in Sedona. This one has a nice location in the town area, you can walk to shopping areas restaurants, etc. other properties outside of town may have more beautiful locations but you would have to drive to get to restaurants, galleries, etc. although the drive wouldn't be far. I think you can't go wrong with any property in the Sedona area. Amara however offers some interesting amenities. If you own pets they are very pet friendly. Nice bar/restaurant. Free yoga in the mornings. Nice spa. This property may be a little pricey for some but it is worth it. Definitely sign up for the Kimpton program for some extras, free wifi, upgrades, etc. staff here excellent in every area. We did have to wait for our room upon arrival, as did others, I suspect not enough housekeeping staff. We didn't mind many things to do while waiting and we were compensated for the wait.

Room Tip: Sign up for the Kimpton frequent stay program to get upgrades, room, free wifi, etc. I would not pa...

Shelley B,
We are thrilled you chose to spend your vacation with us. The location is superb, close enough to the shops and restaurants of uptown but you feel miles away because of the tranquility. The morning coffee and yoga are great way to jump start your day. We appreciate you sharing that folks should join Kimpton Karma rewards, “good things come to those who stay. “ The Amara is very pet friendly as all of our Kimpton hotels which is great for those you enjoy traveling with their pets. The team greatly appreciates the recognition and shout outs. . We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back very soon.

This was our first trip to Sedona and after reading countless reviews we decided to stay at this Kimpton Boutique Resort. We have stayed at Kimpton before on the East Coast and enjoyed it. The Amara is in a great location and near all the shops and restaurants which is very convenient. It is situated down a hill in its own little secluded haven! However , there is great complimentary shuttle if you don't want to walk up the steep incline.

After a long and tiring drive we were warmly greeted by the valet team who was amazing for our entire 5 days we were there! These guys are friendly, personable and knowledgeable and happy to do anything for you and always a smile ... kudo's to the entire valet team !!!

The front desk was extremely friendly and welcoming as well! Ryan checked us in , unfortunately our room was not ready at 4:00 and he was very apologetic as he could tell we were very tired. We were able to have a complimentary drink while waiting and he personally came out to the deck to give us our keys to the room within the hour ... special thanks to Ryan!!

The lobby outdoors faced the beautiful Red Rocks with chairs, fire pits and a salt water pool. It was very beautiful! The pool was crowded on our first day and not enough chairs but the rest of the week we were able to sit by the pool. It was nice to swim and look at the beauty of the Red Rocks!
Kimpton also serves complimentary wine and an appetizer from 5-6pm which is really a nice little perk where you can sit , relax and mingle with other guests. The hummus was AMAZING !!! I am not a fan of hummus but it was absolutely delicious !!!! We only had breakfast at the restaurant which was good. Did not have dinner at the resort, thought the options were limited.

Our room was Creekside and happy we chose it. It was more private and quiet than being poolside, though it was a far walk! We had a small balcony , overlooking the creek and the beautiful view. We sat on the balcony each morning drinking our coffee ... it was so peaceful! Thanks for the K-Cup machine in the room - nice perk ...no pun intended : )

The room was nice, simple and clean. Not a"5" star room but it was sufficient. Bathroom was on the small side but there was room to put all our things and of course a makeup mirror which is a must have for me! There was a big jacuzzi tub which was AWESOME and a surprise! I enjoyed using that after a busy day of sightseeing!

There is a spa on sight and also complimentary steam and relaxation rooms which were wonderful .. another nice perk. So I guess if you use the perks it is worth the resort fee.

We really enjoyed the resort and happy we booked 4 nights !! Our only issue was on our last night I realized both phone and IPad charges were missing. I had used them early in the week so I know they were there. I did report it to management and they followed up on the situation but found no misdoings by the housekeeper. Christine followed up with me via voice mail which was appreciated. Unfortunately they were not found but other than that it was a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Choosing your room is a personal preference. We wanted quiet and chose Creek side and loved it !!

Sm2Trip,
Thank you so much for spending your vacation with us as well as sharing your experience. The entire team is thrilled they had such a positive impact on your stay and they appreciate the recognition. I love hearing that Christine followed up with you as well. It’s the personal connections that go a long way. The wine hour is always a guest favorite as well as mine each time I have the opportunity to host it. You get to meet amazing people that are excited to share their Sedona experiences with one another. The courtyard has some of the most amazing views or if you prefer a dip in the infinity edge pool or soak in the hot tub, all are very relaxing. Pampering yourself over at the spa is also a great way to relax and enjoy your time in Sedona. Sedona is a magical place with so much to do and see. Until next time…

I have stayed in Sedona a few times now and I have to say that the quality of the hotels is not very good. My husband and I decided to try a top hotel this time to see if we would have a better experience. For the price I would have to say that the hotel overall is disappointing but does have some redeeming qualities. The room's furniture and decor were basic, the grounds were average and the concierge surly. The main entry with water, coffee and wine at various points in the day, patio restaurant with a great view of the red rocks, quality of the food and pool were quite good. So as long as you get out of your room you will have a nice experience

Jennybobenny,
Sedona is an amazing destination with so much to see, do, and explore (hiking, biking, hot air ballooning, jeep tours, a spa day, etc.). The natural beauty and being outdoors is why people flock to this magical place. The entire team here takes great pride in sharing their favorite Sedona spots or adventures as they loving living here. Daily yoga classes to start the day or complimentary wine hour each and every night is a great way to unwind. Our restaurant patio or courtyard/fire place area is great place to relax, soak up the rays or views all while have a great meal or beverage. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
