“Nice and Intimate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I'll start by saying, the staff and management are friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful and is adjacent to Oak Creek. Get a glass of wine and sit in a swing next to the creek. The Saltrock restaurant is a must, good food, great staff and a view like no other. We plan on returning in the spring.

We live in Phoenix area (just moved here) and our 10 year old granddaughter was visiting from WA and we wanted to take her to the Grand Canyon and I always wanted to stay in Sedona, so I researched like a mad woman trying to find the "IT" spot for us to cool off (Sedona at least 10-15 degree's cooler than Phoenix) as we were there the end of August. Amara Resort and Spa is "IT". We were traveling with our dog as well. We chose Amara due to it being a Kimpton Chain Hotel, and they are so DOG FRIENDLY (no fee's for dogs) and the place has just gone through a remodel and it was SO lovely. We chose a Studio Suite on the Creek, so worth the price!!! Which wasn't bad.. You do pay a $20/resort fee daily which is cheap compared to resort fee's I've paid in Palm Springs... When we arrived the Valet parking is part of resort fee so they take your car and take care of bags and there was a bowl of food/water with a chalkboard welcoming your dog, which was lovely. The staff is amazing..... They did inform us the restaurant was in the end stage of being re-done, so it was closed, but they give you a list of places that they will Shuttle you to, no charge. Orlando was so attentive as our driver on both nights, LOVED him and all the staff... Elote Cafe is the PLACE, a must go. It's literally the best food I've had in quite a while... We had already gone to the GC before we checked in, so first night my granddaughter and I had the shuttle take us to the brewery (KIDS Welcome) was very good. The next morning we got up and walked town, (You are right in the middle of the main drag with all the shops/eats) and walked to Wildflower Bread Company, O.M.G., it was so delicious, and sat outside looking at the amazing red rock view. Got back to room and off to the pool area. MY Favorite pool area. Very modern with great colors of grays/yellows with large Bed's and plenty of chaises and couches. The pool is an infinity pool overlooking "oak creek" it was breathtaking. We didn't want to leave, and they gave us a late check out with no extra charge. We loved it so much that we booked a few days at Christmas. We have all our family coming for Thanksgiving so it's just my husband and I for Christmas, so what a perfect place to be, new restaurant will be up and running, no cooking and surrounded by a work of natural art everywhere you look. This is the "IT" place and we enjoyed ourselves. LOVED the wine hour each night, they kept it going longer with no restaurant, it was due to be open in 2 days after we left and looked so nice, so we are looking forward to eating there. What a great place only 2 hours from our house. Thank you Amara for everything, you thought about everything one would need including our dog, her own dog bed and water/food bowl waiting in the room when we arrived.....

Room Tip: I would def. go for a Creekside room, they are so quiet and large balconies to just hang out and rea...

Amara Resort
Amara resort isn’t quite what you’d expect from the photos. Unlike a lot of Sedona properties, it’s not surrounded by the beautiful landscapes but rather, tucked into a small canyon directly off the main shopping drag down a steep hill. Tucked away, all views are out the back and they are spectacular with several of the classic Red Rock formations right out there including Snoopy. The creekside view which we had seemed a bit... desultory I found the rooms to be a little above average, but not much. The bathrooms, even in an upgraded room are barely more than a powder room with a shower with very small vanities. The mirror is hung off center from the tiny sink so you have to lean over or move for things like shaving and make-up. The grounds were nice, but not outstanding. I didn’t get to try the saltwater pool which I thought was an interesting concept in the middle of the desert. I thought for a hotel this expensive, even in off-season, it could’ve been a little better. The "free wi-fi" was pretty slow, even for basic web browsing. The staff was very nice and accommodating. And I know this is standard and I knew it coming in, but nevertheless, the "Resort Fee" is bogus.
Amara was a little less than I'd expect from a Kimpton property.

Room Tip: Get an upper floor.

My family had an extended stay here on our last visit to Sedona. We were all very pleased with the room, staff and proximity to town. But the real enchanting part was the lovely view from poolside to the awesome red rocks flanking the creek. Every morning and evening we would swim and enjoy the wonderful ambience and true beauty of this little part of Sedona.

We paid a premium price for a creek-side suite, but the "creek" is not much to look at. The only real "views" from the hotel are located around the beautiful hotel pool (we were taking bets on how many iphones get dropped in the pool every day and decided the over/under line would be 2.5). The hike up to town is significant but doable and once you reach the top you just have to dodge and weave to avoid the crystal dealers and time-share salesmen.

Pro-tip - the hotel has a fleet (ok 4 or 5) Trek mtn bikes with disk brakes available for use. Grab one and head up the road (1 mile or so) to Jim Thompson Trail (i think). Pretty legit mtn biking that is virtually in downtown.

Room Tip: I wouldn't pay for the "creek-side" option.

My boyfriend and I came for a relaxing get away! We loved the view! And loved the pool!

But when we went to get our couples massage we were told that "20% tip is requested but not required " you never tell your client how much to tip... That made us want to tip less!

We know etiquette is 20% and for a good massage we give it ... But don't tell me it when I check in .

The food was ok .. Not great ... But the staff was AMAZING!

The room was clean , bed not so comfortable .

But a nice stay overall . Will probably be back :)

We loved this hotel, as soon as we arrived our bags were unloaded and our car parked. The valet lads were great. They also dropped us up to a mile away and picked us up for free in the evenings when we went out.

The rooms are very new modern and clean. The pool and hot tub have a lovely view. We sat in the hot tub at 10pm under the stars, very relaxing. All the outdoor furniture seemed to be brand new so I think this has been refurbished.

Lots of little extras at this hotel that we loved .......chocolate strawberries in our fridge and free teas/ coffee all day in reception.

We were very happy here, just wished we stayed longer
