“Ugly motel, beautiful Sedona”

Los Abrigados Lodge

This place is Okay if it is free or close to free. It is very old and looks very much like a motel 6. It was somewhat hard to find because it is actually behind the stores on highway 89A. The furniture is old and the pull out sofa bed is death to anyone over 10 years old. The catch is that you get to go view their beautiful resort down the street but they lodge you in this old trap of a motel. Kind of like asking someone to buy a brand new Lexus after test driving a Pinto. The pool is an absolute joke. DO NOT stay here if relaxing and playing at the pool is important to you. It is old and very small. It looks like a skinny rectangle from the 60's. It is probably about 30 feet long by about 8 feet wide. The ONLY good thing about staying here is that it does have a good location. It is in uptown Sedona and you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. Notice though that on any of Los Abrigodas' Lodge websites, they show very little pictures of the actual "resort". That is because it is spooky and old and ugly. The picture of the fancy entrance way is actually their premiere resort that you will tour. The picture of the reception desk is accurate and is the only pretty thing around. The rest of it really truly honestly is set up just like an old Motel 6.

“Beware! Fraudulent credit card charges 3 weeks after our departure!”

When arriving at Los Abrigados Lodge, we were shown a small room and told the price would be $99.00 a night ($198 as we needed 2 rooms). Then we were shown a suite with a small kitchenette and a sofa bed. This suite had a beautiful view from the sliding glass doors. We were told we could have the suite for $39.00 a night if we agreed to a 90 minute tour of their time share property. Since there were 3 of us, we decided to do this and save ourselves $160.00 a night. We also told them upfront that we were not going to buy and were just taking the tour to save ourselves some money.

We answered the questions about our financial qualifications honestly and were told we qualified to do the tour. So we did the tour, refused to buy, and received a certificate from the salesman stating that we were eligible for the discount. When we checked out we paid the discounted fee of $39 for 2 nights.

However, three weeks later our credit card was charged an additional $294. Los Abrigados would not answer any of our correspondence so we disputed this charge with our credit card company. Los Abrigados sent the credit card company a copy of the 'Marketing Follow Up Report' on which the tour salesman asked my husband to write why we were refusing to buy. My husband was planning to put 'not interested' and the salesman asked him to write down his annual income. This income did not meet the specified amount for taking the tour, however, what originally qualified us was our annual 'household' income, NOT just my husband's annual income, and the amount we had in investments. So they qualified us to do the tour, and then tricked us into putting something down that made it look like we had not met their guidelines so they could charge us an outrageous amount of money for an average suite. And yes, I realize it was stupid to put what the salesman said; however, we were all tired from jet lag and not thinking quite straight. We just wanted to go the tour over with and get some rest.

We are again disputing this with our credit card company; however, what a headache!!

“Red Rock views - walking distance to all the shops - nice”

After another hotel blew our reservations, we got a room at Los Abrigados Lodge at 8:00 on a Friday night, during one of Sedona's busiest weekends (Jazz on the Rocks.) We got the now infamous room/suite that's next to the laundry & ice machine. But we never heard any noise from the laundry or the housekeeping staff or anything. It was wonderful. It's a private little suite with a connecting hallway, and a sleeper sofa in the separate living room. It worked perfectly for us (me, my husband & my mother.) Both rooms are contemporary, clean & well-appointed, with fridges, microwaves, fireplaces & patios, are 50 ft from the pool and 50 yards from the main Uptown shops, hidden from the parking lot by a thick hedge. For two days of our stay, we never even had to use our car; we just walked everywhere. And both rooms have close, uninterrupted views of the red rocks!!! Too good to be true? Well, we did have to agree to sit thru the 1-hr timeshare sales pitch, but we didn't even get a hard-sell, and we actually enjoyed the tour of their resort/spa grounds. Los Abrigados Lodge may not be 5-star to some, but it was an overall great experience for us. Our next time in Sedona, I'll probably request the same room!

“Keep Looking”

Los Abrigados Lodge

I booked my stay on line through one of the travel sites. I got a decent price and was excited to see Sedona. I do have to say the hotel is very close to town, you can walk it, maybe 1/2 mile. We arrived early and inquired about early check in. Normal check in is at 4pm, they said like they were doing me a huge favor to check with them at 2:30. At 2:30, we checked and they said check in is at 4 but would call if room was ready. Well, at 4 my room was finally ready. So, if you are going up for a Saturday stay, this may not be your place if you would like to get in your room, get settled, have some pool time, and enjoy Sedona. A Motel 6 would have been similar in that this place just became a place to sleep by not allowing guests to check in before 4. Ironically, the maid was at the door by 8:30 Sunday morning, so I wonder how it would take till 4 anyhow?

While waiting, we decided to walk the resort. It has no view and is down in a valley sheltered by trees. There are timeshare solicitors all around, it felt similar to being in Mexico in that aspect. They are very pushy trying to get you to sign up for a "tour". The pool was less than impressive, small and just kind of depressing looking. Fed up, we just went to Sedona to shop. The town is beautiful, there are places with views and I wished I could have just cancelled my reservation and gone to a place where I could relax and not be pressured for timeshare. Great shops, nice people, stunning views.

Upon check in, the room was ok. It was clean but the blinds did little to keep light out in the morning. Small room, 13" TV, no closet but a small armoire. Had dinner there in main restaurant, food is excellent and service is great. Sports bar there is kind of strange, waitress shift ended, charged drinks and paid tip cash as courtesy, we believe she kept tip so she did not have to share with bar tender and rest of staff gave bad service thinking we did not tip. The omlette bar in the morning is pretty bad, do not reccommend breakfast there...no butter on toast, over cooked bacon, and seasoned potatoes that were all small, dry and you could crack a tooth on. Did I say all that and it was way over priced??

Find a place out of a valley with a view and a nice open pool, where they will let you get settled sometime before 4 and not try to sell you a timeshare every few minutes. This place does not match up with why people go to Sedona.

“Worth the Sales Pitch”

We stayed free as part of a timeshare sales pitch. It was worth the time. We loved the lodge..great location and the view was unbelievable. We couldn't have paid for better accomodations. Even the timeshare salesman was nice and there wasn't any high pressure to buy! Definitely a hit!
