When we arrived on Sunday (June 15) afternoon we were told that the
cafe would be closed but room service would be available. They gave us a printed notice stating this. They also recommended a restaurant in Sedona, but when we tracked it down we found out that it was closed on Sundays. Since it was very hot in Sedona, and much cooler in Oak Creek canyon, we decided to get take-out from the hotel restaurant and enjoy it on our balcony. We stopped and bought a nice bottle of wine.
When we arrived back at 6:45, we found a message telling us
the cafe would be closed after 6:30. We called just in case but got
no answer. The front desk told us indeed they were closed and all the
staff had gone home. Of course, this meant a drive back into Sedona
for take-out--an hour we could have spent on our deck enjoying Junipine.
We did speak to the staff at the front desk about our concerns when we
checked out. The manager on duty was kind enough to discount our bill
by $25. However, she also told us that the cafe had ended up staying
open until 8:00 PM. This of course further frustrated us. This
incident considerably diminishes the experience we had at Junipine. We also wrote the manager a note, and he replied very quickly that we could come again and stay for free. The whole incident just made me feel bad, and we are not inclined to go back. Apparently the hotel and restaurant are separately owned. Also it is not made clear on Junipine's website that all of the units are individually owned--so it is the luck of the drawer if you get one that is nice or is outdated. I did not know that until we got there. I also find it interesting that there was another negative review of Junipine that I read when we got back. I couldn't help thinking that if I had read that before we had gone, we would have not stayed there. I do not see that review anylonger on Trip Advisor--it looks like it has been removed. We feel for the amount of money that they charge on a Sunday night that there are many other choices in Sedona that would be better.
