A Sunset Chateau in Sedona, which was recommended highly by friends, exceeded our already high expectations. From the moment we were greeted by Janet, one of the owners who personally showed us to our room, we had a totally positive experience. Since this was our first visit to Sedona, Janet directed us to all the best attractions while also making us feel very much at home at the Chateau. The other owners, Janet's husband and son, were often around at breakfast to chat and share useful tourist information. Having a major hiking trail just behind the Chateau was a huge plus – rolling out of bed, eating an gourmet brunch each morning and heading to the red rocks or other attractions was simple and relaxing. Our very clean and colorfully-decorated suite included a luxurious and comfortable living area where we could relax each night after a fun day of hiking, shopping or exploring. As a designer, I was struck by the artistry of the Chateau. When I learned that Janet, who hand-painted the incredible dining room mural, was an artist, I immediately understood the attention to detail and the warm ambience that permeates this B&B. Everyone from the owners to the housekeepers and restaurant staff could not be more courteous. We returned home feeling totally refreshed and we hope to return to the Chateau, a perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

We stayed at The Sunset Chateau from May 18th – 24th and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The property is situated at the top of the hill where you overlook West Sedona and gorgeous views of Capital Butte (aka Thunder Mountain) and Coffee Pot Rock as well as more Red Rocks to the left and right of the B&B.

ROOM:

We arrived and checked in very quickly with Jean and headed up to our room. We were in the Pueblo Bonito Room #16. Absolutely beautiful and just perfect for us. It is decorated beautifully and felt very warm and cozy inside. We had a little kitchenette which had a coffee maker, microwave oven and a nice size fridge to store food and some ice in the freezer. Paper towels, plates, cups, wine glasses, bowls are all supplied to you as well as a wine opener. They supplied plenty of coffee packs and sugar in the room. A blow dryer and a clock radio with alarm is also supplied. The shower was big enough for two. If there is something you need, just ask them. They are happy to oblige. The balcony was nice and large with two tables provided. Yes, there is only a partition that separates you from your neighbor next door but it really wasn’t a big deal and we still felt like we had privacy. This room is situated at the very top of the road, right on the corner, and for us, it was just perfect. I have posted pictures of the room and their website depicts the place perfectly.

FOOD:

People here on TA have posted some negative reviews on the breakfasts that are offered each day. We never had one bad meal. We thought the food was fantastic and a little more upscale as far as presentation goes from your normal, average breakfast. Every day we had something different. Eggs Benedict, French toast, Ham and Eggs, Omelet’s, to name a few. If there was something you did not like, you can ask to have something different and they will try to accommodate you the best they can. We never had a problem communicating with the staff and usually the owners are around if you need assistance. Their dining area is very nice and comfortable and the outside patio is very nice to sit out and overlook the red rocks.

GROUNDS:

This place is beautifully decorated and landscaped throughout. They have a little stream that runs through the Chateau with a little waterfall and it was so nice to hear that from our balcony every day. There are chairs, hammocks and swing benches throughout the place where you can find a little spot to relax and just take in the beauty of the place. The pool area had a Jacuzzi with a Kiva fireplace which you can use pretty late in the evening if not all night! It was very welcoming after a long day of hiking. The view from the pool area is excellent. The murals that the owner Janet has painted throughout the grounds are absolutely stunning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. This place is located at the top of Sunset Drive and there are many amenities close by and you do not have to drive too far to get to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The Airport Loop trail is literally right across the street from their front entrance and it is a great, easy hike to do and everyone should walk it if they can. There are great views all around the trail.

We absolutely loved Sedona and everything it had to offer and this lovely B&B added to our amazing trip to this beautiful majestic place.

My husband and I recently stayed at Sunset Chateau for 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised. The property is tucked below the airport in a quiet neighborhood with direct views of Thunder Mountain and Coffee Pot rock. The Casita Suite we stayed in had lots of space and eclectic décor. The gardens, patio and pool provide plenty of comfortable places to read or lay in the sun. Sitting in the Jacuzzi under the stars with the outdoor fireplace running was the perfect end to a long day of hiking.

I would caution folks that this is a family friendly place. There were several groups of noisy children running through the property and playing in the pool. Not quite the 100% peace and relaxation I was hoping for but pretty close. Overall we were very happy with our stay.

“Your own Private Resort”

A Sunset Chateau

May 13, 2008

I picked this B & B because of their web site - it's so artistic!
Plus once we got there on the 15 of April, we were delighted to find friendly owners & staff, who showed us to our very own casita, w/ fireplace, working kitchen & front patio, looking at those gorgeous red mountains.
There are many comfy lounging areas around the place, plus a jacuzzi & heated swimming pool. WE HATED TO LEAVE THE PLACE, TO SEE THE SIGHTS! This was the most cushy & relaxing stays we have ever had!
And the yummy breakfast is done so very well - real china, linens, cutlery, glasses - all stunningly done. I can't wait to go back!

We have just returned from the most amazing family vacation in Sedona thanks to the hospitality shown to us by the owners of Sunset Chateau! In all of our travels to some of the finest hotels and B&B's throughout the US and internationally, we have never felt so personally attended to in concierge service and individualized amenities as we were at the Chateau. In fact, we even cancelled our plans to go north and stayed two extra days!
The "room" (we stayed in the Villa Paradiso) was unbelievable and HUGE--impeccably clean, beautifully appointed, and had a breathtaking view of Thunder Mountain through our huge front windows and sliding glass doors. It had a private entrance, full kitchen and sit-in eating area (large enough to seat our family of four very comfortably), a large living room filled with wrought iron tables and lamps, stylish leather chairs and a big leather couch, as well as a corner gas fireplace (which we enjoyed in the cool evenings and early mornings). It even fit two VERY comfortable roll-aways (one was a double!) for the kids—but they didn’t mind because they got to wake up to an amazing view every morning. The large bedroom had a plush king-sized bed, with lots of fresh pillows and blankets to spare, a stone tile and granite bathroom that had a two-person shower with TWO shower heads, a separate two-person corner Jacuzzi room, and large vanity with two sinks! We felt more like we were staying in a luxurious apartment than a B&B “room”! The grounds had meandering walks and whimsical art dotting the grassy sections, along with hammocks and chairs for lounging. Although we never got the chance to try out the pool, we noticed the big fireplace by the hot tub for the guests to use in the evenings.
As for the breakfasts, they were absolutely delicious and unique every day—definitely no “hotel-chain buffet yuck” served here. We cannot understand where the negative reviews came from—the French Toast and that omelet with the mushroom cream topping were incredible (in fact, we are waiting for the “chef” to open up a restaurant somewhere with their signature dishes!) When our 8yr old shied away from the gourmet meal, the kitchen gladly served up a generous portion of fresh eggs and toast. The owners, Janet, Philippe, and Jean mingled with the guests every morning, telling stories or helping us plan for the rest of our stay. Their expertise in helping select and arrange area tours made everything so easy for us.
We highly recommend A Sunset Chateau for anyone looking for a friendly, family atmosphere in a beautiful setting!
