Just returned from an exchange into "The Ridge" (April 2006). We had unit #1402, 2 bedroom, 2 bath. In reading some of the previous reviews on this resort I was somewhat concerned, however, we could not have been more pleased with the resort and our unit. Our vista from our balcony was Bell Rock and Courthouse Rock. It was Gorgeous!! We stopped at the front desk a few days prior to checking in and requested a 2nd floor unit on "the ridge". The ridge buildings are #12 to #16. The views from these 2nd floor units are the best, however, the first floor units have mature trees, and may eliminate views completely. Note: This resort is a total of 20 buildings, all 2-story, no elevators, built on the hills of Oak Creek Village.

Oak Creek Village is a 20 minute drive into Sedona, however, it's a gorgeous drive and we didn't find it to be a problem. We liked the beauty around us in Oak Creek Village, as well as the newer, quieter, up and coming area of Sedona. Oak Creek Village, and "The Ridge" are located just 7 miles off I-17, which we found to be very convenient, for driving to Flagstaff and Phoenix.

This resort does not have an exercise facility, however, guests have complimentary use of the "Hilton Hotel Spa", which is a short walk (5-10 minutes), or car ride (2-3 minutes)from the resort. We used this facility and found it to be excellent.

Our unit was spacious, extremely clean, well maintained and stocked. We would say they are doing a great job at this resort, and would recommend "The Ridge". Since we own several timeshares, we did not consider a sales presentation at the resort. We simply told them we were busy and not interested. They called us a few times, however, it wasn't a problem.

Sedona is beautiful, and we hope to make a return visit to "The Ridge On Sedona Golf Resort in the future.

“This Place Just Wants Your $$$”

The facility itself is adequate. The units were simple but clean. (If you're used to the luxury of Marriott, you won't find it here.) The kitchen was well equiped. There were lots of towels. The bed in the bedroom was fine, but the sofa bed in the living room was terrible - even by sofa bed standards. The grounds could have been maintained better. There was one spot, for example, where rocks has been washed onto the sidewalk by the sprinkler system and it stayed that way the whole week we were there. When the second bedroom portion of our unit was occupied, there was a lot of noise that came through the common door. The worst part of staying here, however, was the constant sales pressure. I felt like I had a dollar sign painted on my back. The best parking spot in the lot is reserved for the Director of Marketing. What does that tell you about the priorities of the facility? The concierge staff is affiliated with the sales staff - not the hotel - and their goal is to sell, sell, sell. Timeshare presentations are their first sales goal and after that it's tours, train rides, excursions, anything they can. Because they're not connected to the hotel, they won't let you charge your purchases through them to your room. The timeshare presentation was hard sell. It goes on for much longer than they claim. When we said no to the first sales person, a second one showed up. It became very tiresome. When we checked out, we owed a small balance. When I presented a $20 to pay for it, the clerk acted annoyed and claimed to have no change. When I said that was the smallest bill I had, he just looked at the woman next to him who opened a drawer and gave him the change. The two of them acted like I was really inconveniencing them. All in all, the place wasn't terrible, but we wouldn't recommend it and we won't stay there again.

“Loved the View...Hated the Sales Pitch”

My husband and I stayed at The Ridge on Sedona Golf Course. When we arrived at approximately 3PM the room was not ready so we headed out for a bite to eat. When we returned about 1 1/2 hours later our room was ready and all our requests were met.

We went to our room and we had requested a non-smoking 2nd floor room w/ a view of the red rocks and a king bed. The room was huge. It had a full kitchen, dining area, living room w/ pull out sleeper sofa. It also had a separate bedroom with a king bed and a giant bathroom with a jacuzzi for two and a separate shower.

The hotel sets you up with coffee starter packs for use until you can get to the store. I am not a coffee drinker, but for those who are this was a great feature.

Our view of the red rocks was fabulous. We had a clear view of Bell Rock from our living room and bedroom. It was really spectacular.

We also had a pool and hot tub in our cul de sac in front of the building. The pool temp was sometimes way too cold while the jacuzzi was way too hot. A few people complained at the front desk and they seem to temporarily fix the problem, but the next day it was back to the same and you had to complain all over again.

They offer a concierge desk which from my experience elsewhere they make reservations for you and they are there to help you. Well this is one of my complaits about the resort. The concirege is a glorified sales desk. If you even look at them they PUSH their timeshare sales pitch at you. In addition they are VERY pushy wanting to schedule tours for you. I had booked various activities on-line before we left and they were not happy with us probably b/c they would not be making any money on our activities. They were also very pushy with specific tour companies.

My second complaint with the hotel is the lack of customer service. I was expecting a guest to visit on Memorial Day and they were supposed to call the day before. When I had no call the day before I called the front desk to make sure our phone was working properly. They tested the phone. The next morning I hadn't heard from the person by 9:30AM (they were supposed to arrive at 10:30) so I called the front desk and they tested the phone again. We left the room at 11AM and went to the front desk and told them we had been expecting someone and if they showed up later on to please give them our cell number. My husband wrote our names and cell number and gave it to the front desk. After arriving home I spoke via email with the person (unfortunately I had no way of contact while in Sedona) and she was there at 10:15 and waited in the lobby for 25-30 minutes. The front desk claimed to have dialed our number for her and she said she left three messages which we didn't get. They also never told us when we were in the lobby that someone had been looking for us 15-20 minutes earlier. Very bad front desk staff.

The rooms and view were definately above average, while the customer service was far below what we are used to. I would consider staying there again (even w/ the customer service issues)...especially if I could get another great deal....because the rooms and view were so fabulous.
