“Great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

My husband and I stayed here in a studio for one week. This was a pleasure trip with no kids and the studio was more than adequate with its small kitchen. We stayed in building 10 and even though our balcony faced the parking lot there was still a beautiful view. The unit was nicely updated and housekeeping did a great job midweek of refreshing everything. We brought along a MiFi device that worked great for our Internet for the week. The location of the resort being somewhat out of town was not a problem for us. The weather was beautiful so we enjoyed driving around with the top down on our rented convertible. The scenery on the drive is amazing! There are plenty of good restaurants very close. We purchased a week pass at the spa at the nearby Hilton for $40/person. It is within walking distance and we used it every day for a secluded pool and hot tub, as well as steam room, sauna and fitness equipment. Well worth it to us to have a very quiet place to relax. Overall we had a wonderful stay at a beautiful resort and would happily return!

First of all, the resort is nice overall, albeit a little bit out of town, but in someways this is a good thing, and in someways this is a bad thing (it takes about 15 minutes or so to get into the main part of town).

When we arrived, which was early, we were told that our room wasn't ready yet. This was fine, because we knew we were early, so we went and had lunch. Before we left, the front desk told us that if we waited, we could have a place on the golf course, which we thought was great, because it would be quieter, or if we wanted to have a room right then, we could have a room in the building next to the main lobby. Obviously we thought we'd wait, because quieter room = happier me.

So we went shopping, got lunch, and still no calls. Finally at around normal check in time we got a call that our room was ready. Was it our room on the golf course? No. It was the room that was next door to the main lobby! Yuck.

Also, while we were waiting for our room we decided to talk to the concierge, because they have a discount card that's good for discounts all over town. The catch is that while you're waiting for the card she also pushes buying a timeshare there, sitting in their pitch, etc.

The room was nice, albeit a bit small, but it was a studio, so that's understandable. We had a bird's nest in our light outside of our room, which made it noisy come the morning, but other than that it was an okay room.

The pool is small, and gets a little crowded, but it was nice, especially considering it was a holiday weekend.

I'd stay here again, if I could have some sort of an impact on where in the complex we were staying.

Room Tip: Buildings 1-3 are closer to houses and right next to the main lobby/resort. See if you can get in s...

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to read that you have not been fully satisfied with your room allocation and we regret that our reception team were not able to fulfil your expectations on this occasion and provide you with the golf course room. We did a time share switch (Interval) to spend a week at the Ridge on Sedona Golf Resort. Our first room had a terrible view but the front desk was very nice and helpful (all week) and switched us to building 17. We could see the hills outside but had to step out onto the balcony to get a view of the "Red Rocks of Sedona."

Overall the accommodations were nice - nothing fantastic but we have stayed in far worse. Again the service was fantastic. Yes it is in Oak Creek, not Sedona as advertised, but we were ok with that as we like the quiet setting on the golf course.

Both my wife and I run small businesses so getting emails and accessing the web it critical. We had to pay $30 (per device) to get ATTWIFI. I could not believe how bad the service was so I went back to TripAdvisor and, sure enough, there were multiple previous complaints.

I called ATTWIFI and was basically told "it is what it is." Speeds, according to http://www.speedtest.net/ were around 1 MB down and a bit less up. I could not even use skype most days and getting a website to load was either impossible or took minutes.

According to comments on previous TripAdvisor reports, the manager told them that it was not their issue, it was with ATTWIFI. I called to speak to the manager but was told that he was not in that day. I explained to the clerk, who was very nice and understanding, that in fact, it IS the managers (and Diamond Resorts) issue. We booked with them, paid them and everything associated with the resort IS their responsibility.

If multiple people are complaining (and these are just those that have taken the time to write something on TripAdvisor) then CLEARLY there is an ongoing issue.

I stay in hotels all over North America (and as far away as Australia, New Zealand and the UK) and this was the WORST internet access I have had in years.

So, if you don't care about the internet and want to just relax, enjoy the Red Rocks of Sedona, golf, hike, etc... then I would rate this location as a solid 3.5. If you need wifi - stay away.

Room Tip: Building 17 was ok - I did not look but am guessing that 18 or 19 might have a better view of the re...

We are very sorry to read that the Wi-Fi connection has not been to your satisfaction and that it had an influence on the general quality of your stay. Large resort’s guests require a 24/7 internet access which necessitates a larger bandwidth and this regretfully comes at a cost. Most businesses can incorporate this into their pricing and so appear to provide a free service, but in reality it is not. In order to do the same within a timeshare resort, each HOA Board must approve the cost of providing this service. The Boards, at this time, believe that each individual should pay those costs if and when they use the service. Please be advised that we do not profit from the fees related to Wi-Fi as these are charged by a 3rd party internet provider. That being said, receive a lot of feedback in regard to Wi-Fi costs, and are in discussion with our Homeowner’s Association to see if this can be covered for guests in the future. We do thank you for your feedback.

First off, this resort is in the Village of Oak Creek, not Sedona as the name implies. It's about as far south as you can go in the resort area, and takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the shops and restaurants in Sedona, which is kind of inconvenient. There are some places in the Village of Oak Creek too, but it's much smaller. It's also right at the edge of the beautiful red rock scenery, and in fact our room didn't have a good view at all. But drive just about a mile or two north and you have Courthouse Butte and Bell Rock, both awesome hiking with gorgeous views at sunset.

The resort itself is nice and modern, about what you'd expect for a timeshare. We had no complaints about our room. It doesn't have the charm and individuality of a B&B, but we didn't expect it to. The salespeople are quite pushy trying to get you to do one of their tours, which we had to decline several times. The pool area is OK - it has a hot tub but very little shade. There's not really much to say about it - it's just kind of boring looking and lacked character. Not bad, just not much to say about it.

Overall, we did have a good experience there, I just wish it was closer to Sedona and most of the hiking. We're not golfers, so that does have an effect on my review. :-)

Thank you for your review. We are thrilled to read that you had an enjoyable stay here, however, we are concerned that our location did not meet your expectations.
Our resort has often been described by previous guests as conveniently located. Our location, in Sedona/Village of Oak Creek, is at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon with its drop-dead gorgeous scenery, plethora of good restaurants, and dozens of hiking trails all around town it has become a personal favorite of many and makes an excellent base for exploring central Arizona within easy driving distance. Room requests such as a specific view types can be submitted prior to arrival. We will do anything within reason to accommodate your request when availability permits. As you may be aware, we are primarily a Vacation Ownership property, the offering of a vacation ownership sales presentation is a part of the check in process. We would like to offer our apologies for any dissatisfaction this may have caused you and assure you that we do not advocate 'pushy' sales approach and encourage all guests who feel inconvenienced to contact our reception team. We would be thrilled to have you stay with us again as our valued guest and hope that you will consider us again the future.

This resort is located in the Village of Oak Creek which is 8 miles south of Sedona proper. This is a great location for people who want to play golf during their visit to Sedona. Unfortunately we are hikers not golfers. There are some very good trails located close to the village but a lot of the ones we wanted are located north and west of Sedona which made for a 30 to 40 minute drive. We stayed in an efficiency unit across from the pool in building 13. The unit was very comfortable and was in good condition. It didn’t have any views and the units next door were under construction so parking was a hassle. The Wifi service was expensive and was horrible!

You'll have space - and plenty of it - in these Diamond Resort-owned units. Our one-bedroom was huge, with all of the amenities you'd expect in a time share. The pool is somewhat dated and our unit has clearly been used without an update for a while, but that didn't detract from the place. Units are being refurbished. Not sure about the public areas.

The only downside is the location. Set in the Village of Oak Creek, it is still a 15 minute drive to Sedona proper. There are restaurants and cafes within walking distance - as long as you're willing to brave the big hills - and a grocery store (Weber IGA) at the next roundabout. The views are good to great, depending on what building you're in. There are no food services onsite. The concierge is very helpful - but there is a continuing need to 'sell' the timeshare 90 minute visit, even when they knew we are regular Diamond customers.

Room Tip: Higher numbered buildings are up the hill, so further from reception and pools, but potentially bett...

The 2 BR unit was well-designed as a lock-off. The excellent initial appearance was confirmed during our week-long stay. Housekeeping touched up the unit after 3 days. Kitchen equipment was typical and adequate for the cook in our group of 2 couples. We faced the golf course and used the small, sun-protected patio several times. The spa was an easy walk. Our building was a drive to the pool and front desk. Outdoor lighting was good and protected the great evening skies. Front desk folks were the high people-skills staff we expect at quality timeshares. The Concierge desk was good, but not as well-informed as we could have expected. They were direct but not pushy about the timeshare presentation and the discounts to attractions they could offer. Nicely located: ten minutes north to town (Oak Creek Canyon and Pink Jeep Tours), thirty minutes west to Jerome and Verde Valley RR, 5-7 minutes to Bell Rock, 30 minutes to Flagstaff and 2+ hours to Grand Canyon. We are not owners but traded through Interval. We would happily return.
