“Beware of the fruit!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We spent three nights in Mariposa....although small it was very comfortable with an awesome view. I would highly recommend they install ceiling fans as the rooms get quite warm and stuffy. The little bag of peanut brittle pieces wrapped in plastic wrap left for us in our room was a bit tacky. A B & B of this rating should be treating guests with fine chocolates. Now.... the breakfast. As long as there are enough guests they have the Hilton's chef on site; however, on those off mornings the owner cooks. A chef she is NOT! We were served VERY weak coffee, a compote made of rotten fruit, and something disgusting she called a "new recipe.". Also, beware of the fruit compote!! We left the mountain and went out to breakfast. We are early-risers but coffee was not available until after 7:00 and we had to go in search of it. Many B&B's offer coffee from a Keurig or
otherwise ..... available at all times. They did offer cold drinks at all times and a bowl of fruit....again, old and shriveled up.

Only 90 minutes from our home in Glendale AZ, the Penrose was a great overnight getaway from the valley heat. The views, accommodations and breakfast make it one of the best values in Sedona. Whether you are looking for a quick getaway or several nights, Penrose is definately a winner. Generous host and friendly staff round out a fantasic stay and a reason to return.

Room Tip: Javelina room has a great balcony and comfortable room.

The Penrose location is absolutely beautiful. The views of the red rocks are fantastic. The hosts and staff are wonderful, informative and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and they check with you beforehand if there's anything you can't eat or would like to have. The only problem was we were only there for one night. I would recommend this B&B to everyone heading out to Sedona.

My husband and I spent our first wedding anniversary at the Penrose and had a fabulous experience. The b&b is situated right next to red rocks and offers a spectacular view. Our host, Whitney, made our stay most memorable with his casual yet attentive ways. We received a warm welcome, excellent restaurant recommendations, and delicious breakfasts each morning. The trip was topped off with some excellent photos Whitney took of us standing before the red rocks - a great souvenir of our trip. The staff at Penrose definitely made our first trip (and certainly not our last) to Sedona magical!

Actually, better than home - we didn't have to do our own laundry. For my wife's first trip to Sedona she did a lot of research and found the Penrose online. It sounded too good to be true, but it was awesome. They treat you like family. Fast housekeeping, efficient. Incredible breakfast. We are already planning our next trip, and we could not even consider staying anywhere else. No trip to Sedona is complete without a stay at the Penrose.

Since we only had one night in Sedona, we wanted to be as close as possible to the Red Rocks, so the Penrose was perfect. The views all around us were wonderful! the hosts were very nice and welcoming to us and the room was very comfortable. The B&B is in a quiet area but close to town. We also had a nice surprise before we left when the owner asked if we wanted him to take a few pictures of us with the Red Rocks as a background. It was very nice of him to do and gave us something to bring home with us. We would recommend the Penrose and if we go back to Sedona will be sure to stay there.

Room Tip: The rooms on both floors of the parking lot side have great open views of the rocks. The second flo...

I highly recommend this B&B. The hosts were incredible and had encyclopedic knowledge of the local area, particularly hikes. And if they aren't around, they had extensive binders of sightseeing, meal, and other options in the area to browse. The breakfasts were works of art. The view from the patios were absolutely amazing in every direction, you felt like you were right up next to the red rocks. The bed was comfortable. All your needs were taken care of - day packs, t-shirts, swim towels, maps, etc. I stayed in the Kokopelli room and the two person jacuzzi was awesome after a hike. The housekeeping was immaculate. Did I mention the breakfast, yum, the breakfast.

I would really like to give this place 5 stars, but I am settling for 4.5 stars, but there were a few downsides to be alert to: I think the price was slightly too high, its not a show stopper, but $25-50 less per night (or maybe a discount for weekday or off-season nights) would put it on par with other B&B's I've stayed in different parts of the country. The decor in the rooms was fabulous, including a matching bed frame, the problem was it was a little creaky for a bed in a room named after a fertility god. Also, the breakfast was only offered from 8 - 9 am, and the breakfast alone was easily worth $30, but if you want to get an early start for hiking or other activities, you are going to miss it. Also, we got a peak of the other rooms (Kokopelli is the largest and slightly more expensive), and I thought they were relatively tiny, which at this price, should be a bit larger.

Room Tip: Spring for the Kokopelli, the size and jacuzzi are worth it. If not, the room that starts with C ha...
