“Worst Customer Service I've Ever Experienced!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2008

We had to file a complaint with the better business bureau regarding the Sky Ranch Lodge. They have an UNSATISFACTORY record with the BBB. We had so many problems and inconveniences with them, and the supposed "management" could not have cared less, actually writing back bold-faced lies in their response to our complaint.

We stayed at the SRL around 02/17/08 and the problems began almost immediately. When we checked into our room with a supposed "Partial View of the Red Rocks" we were sadly disappointed to learn we could only see one good rock from our room. Everything else was blocked by trees. When we complained the SRL responded saying there were only "2 defoliated trees." Please...

The back balconies are not private and we continually had other guests walking back and forth across our balcony. Very disruptive and loud.

After 5 minutes in the shower my girlfriend's shower ran cold and she hurried up to get out. Not knowing she had gotten out from a cold shower I jumped in and was shocked to find no hot water. While the maintenance person came quick, he had to bang around in the bathroom for about 10 minutes only to come out and say that somehow the hot water regulator was turned down lower than usual, possibly by a previous guest. I doubt any guest would have the interest in turning DOWN the hot water. After complaining to management we were given excuse after excuse with not even a single apology. It wasn't their fault according to them. They said they had a "40 gallon instant recovery tank." If that's true then it was defective. Management even had the gall to write to the BBB and say that they had to turn the hot water UP HIGHER THAN NORMAL FOR US! Can you believe that? The maintenance guy himself said it was turned down below normal.

Next, immediately after the maintenance person left, the room smelled of smoke. We came to the conclusion that he lit up a cigarette outside our room. It completely filled up our room with the stench of smoke, and we were already aggravated from having to get out of cold showers. The hotel responded saying that maybe another guest lit up outside our room right after the maintenance left and that the employees follow strict rules on designated smoking areas. I seriously doubt that as late, dark, and cold as it was, and after banging around in our bathroom for 10 minutes that the maintenance person would have taken the time to walk to a "designated smoking area."

As cold as it was in Sedona, all we honestly wanted was to have a nice, hot shower and relax before our Grand Canyon tour the next day. The Sky Ranch Lodge could not deliver. One night manager made excuses when we complained, while the day manager offered us 10% off our bill. The 10% would not even cover the tax we paid on the room and was quite insulting. Why should we pay for a cold shower, a smoke filled room, a deceptive view of "a rock", and a balcony that according to the Sky Ranch Lodge, was a "public facility." We paid for a view that anyone could walk across and see. Honestly the drive up to the hotel had a view a million times better than the room itself. Maybe that's why so many people were walking across our balcony. Maybe their views were just as mundane as ours.

Sky Ranch Lodge: great concept w/ the hotel up on the mesa; however, old outdated rooms, wifi that cuts in and out, cold showers, crappy views in the "partial views," and the worst part of all...customer service that doesn't give a damn. Never again will I visit this place, and I hope that you take the time to read the other complaints about this hotel regarding customer service and other issues and find a nicer hotel in beautiful Sedona. We would have had better service at a Days Inn.

Thanks for taking the time to read this everyone. Good luck if you stay here! You'll need it!

P.S. I would have listed photos, but frankly our view was so sad we didn't bother taking any at this place.

Nice little hotel with a great view! We opted for the garden room and felt for the difference in price we got a great bargain. The rooms with the view would of been nice, but we didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. The staff was helpful and friendly and they have a computer with internet you can use if you don't want to bring your laptop. The only small complaint would be the walls are thin and for a few nights we had someone play some odd music all night long. I would recomend the Pink Jeep tour and also there is a 15 minute helicopter ride for only $58 that takes you above the red rocks.

The Sky Ranch Lodge is a heavenly (no pun intended!) respite from the budget and luxury hotel chains that populate the city of Sedona. Located on the edge of the same mesa that is home to the airport, it's full Red Rock view rooms offer amazing scenic views of the valley and red rocks below (see the accompanying photos for an example). It's an older hotel, but very well-kept. I wouldn't be deterred from it's proximity to the airport, either - noise was minimal and the only time I ever heard a plane was when I was taking photos from the back balcony. The in-room fireplaces are cozy and convenient - they're gas, so one turn of a lever lights the fire or turns it off. My stay was in the middle of winter, so I particularly appreciated the separate heater for the bathroom. The room heater is extraordinarily efficient but because of the layout of the room, would never quite reach the bath area. The hotel is located at the top of Airport road, a short drive (but a world away) from the main road that runs through Sedona. When you're finishing up your day in town it's a wonderful, quiet place to come back to. Highly recommended.

I lived in Sedona about 17 years ago, and Sky Ranch Lodge was always my favorite resort for its personality and location. I recently went to Sedona (12/28 - 12/30) with my husband and parents, and we stayed here again. We were not disappointed. I would highly recommend this resort.

It is located on airport mesa, and when you drive up Airport Road, you
are afforded some of the most spectacular views of Sedona. It really is breathtaking! You will pass one of my favorite spots, Airport Mesa lookout. You really should take the time to hike to the top for the view, especially if there is a full moon, watching the moon rise is a fantastic experience.

Anyway, I was able to book our rooms a few days prior (Dec. 25), and they only had their standard queen garden rooms ($80/nite - you can't beat the price). The rooms were a little dated, but the nice attention
to detail made up for that - wood beams on the ceilings, ceramic tile surrounding the built in chest of drawers. The gardens are beautiful, and the resort does have a swimming pool (although too cold this time to experience), and a hot tub, which was very nice. Another bonus for this resort is that they allow pets for a small fee ($10/per pet/per nite). It made me wish we had taken our schnauzers. If your budget allows, I would recommend the cottages, about $189/nite. They are more
private, and they have the best views. They even have fireplaces, although some of the other rooms have fireplaces as well.

The Lodge is within walking distance of the airport itself, which has a wonderful restaurant. Great breakfasts, but especially wonderful dinner menu - oysters rockafeller & and the best haddock topped w/crushed pecans in a creamy pesto sauce. The wine was great too, and very reasonable. Additionally, you can schedule air tours, helicopter rides, etc. from the airport. Really no need to reserve b/f you get there, unless it's during the holidays.

If you schedule a jeep tour, most jeep tour companies will pick you up at the Lodge. The staff are super friendly too. Our only problem was with the plumbing the first day, since it's an older system, it has an older septic system, and it is very sensitive. Although the toilet/bathtub backed up a little, maintenance came w/in 10 minutes and fixed the problem completely.

I would highly recommend this resort. It's perfect, more affordable than a lot of the newer resorts, which leaves you more $$$ to spend on
food, tours, and of course, .... crystals!

An exceptional hotel with an unusual location. This ingenious Lodge has the best of Sedona...everything from the astounding views, reasonable rates, several vortexes and is located next to a small airport. There is an average restraunt on site, or you can travel down the hill for five minutes and be in Uptown and the creme de la creme of dining establishments. The rates are extremely reasonable and the staff is most hospitable and charming. The rooms are nothing special, but the grounds are immaculate and the view off the bluff of Sedona at sunset is one you will never forget. One of my favorite places to stay.

We loved it here! We got the garden view room (can't go wrong for $75.00 a night!) and were very happy with the location and the very welcoming, friendly staff. There's a lovely scenic viewpoint steps away from the lobby...you can see beautiful sunsets and the lights of Sedona twinkling below. The rooms are far from sound proof, so bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper, but that's no big deal.
