As first -time travelers to Arizona and Sedona area in particular we had to rely on guide books (Fodor's), the internet and word of mouth to figure out where we wanted to stay. We took a chance on The Apple Orchard Inn in Sedona, and we were well-rewarded. A wonderful, scenic, quiet and comfortable inn off the very busy beaten path of Sedona--far enough to experience the quite tranquility and beauty of the Red rocks region but withing walking distance of uptown. Their website is very good and describes the inn to a tee. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed with all the amenties. The terrace, where we had a delightful breakfast, had a beautiful mountain backdrop, complete with hummingbirds. Adjacent to the terrace was a cozy hot tub and cooling tub--perfect for the cocktail hour or a nice glass of wine after a hot day in the desert. Homemade cookies and varieties of trail mix were always available.
But a key ingredient was the innkeeper--Marc is back ! Although we could only stay one night and part of two days, Marc treated us as friends and returning guests. He treated us warmly at the door, gave us a tour of the facilities and provided needed information about the town, travel and surrounding areas. Of course, we plied him with questions. All his advice was spot one ---from how to negotiate the local traffic problems, where to eat, what jeep tour to take, what places to avoid on the Oak Creek Valley drive (stay away from Slide Rock on the way to Flagstaff), to what to expect in "Flag". He volunteered to make arrangments for us. Even the day we were leaving he offered us use of the inn for a "base" and made reservations for us at The Asylum Restaurant (also wonderful) at the top of the mountain in the nearby Ghost City of Jerome (Must go to Jerome !)
We have traveled often and used to use to stay at B&B's a lot, though lately have taken to more commercial establishments and resorts. Marc and The Apple Orchard Inn showed us what we have been missing. We will be back !
Bon Chance Marc, The Inn and Fellow Travelers !
